Hi our username password policy is very strict to the point where they tend to forget the login info I don't like the idea of giving the teacher rights to setting a password. Eventually we will have the sytem setup with ldap which will work best for most schools and allow the systems administrator the ability to allow the teacher to enable doable and change passwords. Right now we are building a secure cms. Like I say first draft and ideas are most welcome

Hi, no Teachers can not view one anothers username passwords The word of the day/week can be changed from the admin dashboard, which is an additional password to the teachers username password. I think this is more secure than allowing a teacher acces to resetting a students username and password. Pluss this has a time out on it. We will be looking at encryption soon. for now we are just starting small and going from there

come to think of it we will be looking at enabling and disabling accouts too

We have a system in place to enable and disable accounts, every school is diffrent

Hi gang, Me and my Bro have been working on a project for my school and I would like to show you all some screen shots. Basically the way I have the system setup at my school is we store all the student username and passwords on a spread sheet. One of the most demanding jobs if dishing out username and passwords to students who have forgotten after a summer break etc. So what I intend to do is allow staff access to the student username passwords through a secure webpage, which means this lowers the number of kids at my door asking for account information, stops students form going for a wonder in the corridor, and if you are like me and dont know half the kids names by face then this will improve student account security. to access the system staff have to enter there network username/passwords followed by a secret word of the week or day which only staff will know. from here they then select the students year of intake and then select the student name. this then does a search of the database and presents the username password to the teacher. The system is set to time out (which is set in the admin control pannel) no matter if the teacher is using it or not the system will time out and prompt for a login on next request. The system will have security logs of who logged in stamped by a date and time. this is just a small part of whats been done. plans after the first release is... creation of student accounts access to student account work space and any other suggestions from edugeek members. Like I say this is just some brief screen shots as we are still developing it. Cheers Kev

not to sure if this right but it seems to have worked start computer from cold, make sure no domain users are cached. run msconfig click services and disable adobe active file monitor restart the machine next you need to do a search on the c: drive for pdf make sure hiden files folders are shown delete all folders that com up in the search next go to program files.. adobe... acrobat 8.0 and delete pdfmaker restart the machine.. done

Stupid problem giving me hell adobe creation add-on tool wants to install everytime I try to open a excel or word file. I've looked high and low to try and remove it. Does anyone know how to get rid of the pest? Cheers Kev

I will start by say I will give out lots of thanks and reps with help on this The Story so far.... We bought 35 of this Integral Crypto 4GB USB Key - Misco.co.uk As part of the development plan we realise that we must encrypt any sensitive data that teachers take off site to do reports etc. On a standalone PC/Laptop it work brilliantly, but when I went to setup the keys on a client machine I get the BSOD and the Machine restarts. When the usb key is plugged in to the machine it creates 2 drive letters; one is the storage area, which is protected by the encryption software, and the other creates a virtual cd drive with 2 files, 1 of them been the instructions on how to use the device and the other one is the encryption software. Now if I open the pdf (instructions) manual everything is fine, but as soon as try to use execute the encryption software, the machine BSOD and restarts. So I did some thinking (almost over heated) and came to a conclusion that it could have something to do with the Avantis software. We have an Avantis 100 multimedia server connected to the network which is used for sharing cd/dvd images that are required when accessing the software e.g. Encarta... yes we still use Encarta On the client machines we have Avantis Client 2.4 installed which we set the number of virtual cd/dvd drives per client, at present I have two setup on all the machines across the school. I believe this is having some sort of conflict with the encryption software but I do not how or why. I know this for sure because I uninstalled the Avantis client 2.4 software from a machine and everything was hunky dory!! Reinstall the Avantis Client 2.4 software and try the encryption software, the same thing happens. This has also been tested on 5 other different machines with different hardware and I get the same results The BSOD message is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ..... And then it restarts. So I have contacted the encryption company and they reassured me that it’s not their software or the hardware but something to do with the Avantis client 2.4 software that we have. Trouble is I don’t wish to pay Avantis for a contract support just to fix this issue, and to be honest in the last 4 - 5 years we have had this we have never needed to, as it just works. I asked the tech support guy how he knows this and he said another school(s) have had the same issue. When I asked him if he could tell me which schools so I could contact them to ask for advice he said he could not due to data protection.. So here I am, any one that can help me out I would really blooming appreciate it. This is something that has me completely stumped! I know we could just return the data sticks and try another vendor but what’s the point, plus it will niggle me like mad that I never got to the bottom of this.
