  7. Hi guys, We will be moving the sever cabinet and airconditioning system form my office this febuary half term. it will be moved to a room that will remain locked and will hardly have many visits from my self. My boss has asked me to do a Disaster recovery plan (new to the job) as we dont have one in place. I'm reading up on it... we tick all the box's but one thing we dont have as its never apeared to be needed is a enviroment monitoring system. I need something that will monitor air tempreture, flodding and text no less than 3 mobile phones. suggestions and comment most welcome. would like to hear of experiences and what people have implemented. cheers gang Kev
  8. I have a better idea... background colours.... black (administrator) Grey (Teacher) blue (student) stands out like a saw thumb and you can glance from a distance
  9. taking admin rights away would increase my work load. If I see any type of torrent or download program, I always go in deep and look for illegal or unrelated work. I must admit it does get my back up when some one in the home goes on it and basically changes everything. despite my best efforts to set up a laptop which is customed towards that teachers needs.
  10. yes that line is on the AUP
  11. so here is the problem. we have a new esafety policy and laptop policy. in the policy we have this line. I will only use the school's email/Internet/Intranet/Learning Paltform and any related technologies for profesional purposes or for uses deemed 'reasonable' by the the head or Governing Body. Staff are unsure what reasonable means... in terms of well if I book a holiday with my work laptop, is that reasonable use? I've been asked to write a list of what reasonable use is... Forgive my ignorance but I feel like writing in big leters red 'DONT DO ANYTHING STUPID' I'm stuck.... can anyone help me out?
  12. I agree, because of the weather, I am now redesigning the schools website so if such an event happens again, we will be able to display vital information better. also looking at the performance as well... the word proactive comes to mind
  13. fasthosts.... shivers:confused:
  14. I would look at the reviews on Netpivotal .. some unhappy customers.

  18. think my personal server that I used to study towards mcse is about 10 year+ P2 512MB ram.... proliant ml370 not sure what 'G' it is.... still works to this day
  19. I have logmein ignition which I use on the train when commuting too and from work. I have my email setup for both work and personal. Just got mobileme and the nice thing is you can sync internet, favourites, calander, data, contacts and email with iphone... a pluss.. if the phone is lost or stolen you can locat it online, send messages, murder people (joke) erase everything remotely. and then the pluss it can be used as an excellent mp3/mp4 player the camera is poo, but then if you think about it, how many photos do you actually take with a camera phone.. me none, unless its work or for something to help me with wire points. pdf, and word is also supported... thinking... aaa yeah internet teathering allows you to huck your laptop/pc to it for net access... handy if you have internet usage on a contract. If you are happy with the contract that you have now. you could buy the phone on pay as you go... and have it unlocked for £15 via o2... not sure if voda or orange do the same. you can control your itunes on your home pc/laptop/multimedia tv/pc system. I could go on. the phone can be used for both buisness and personal, it all boils down to what apps you get, which to be fair are reasonably priced. bluetooth is alittle limited from what I understand... i.e. from my experience I can't connect to another palls phone who has a nokia, sony etc to send videos and images. but it does do mms, and the wifi connection comeins in handy. I do recommend that you get a good cover, come in loads of styles and variations, pluss a screen protector. Kev
