For all those who are lacking a sense of humour......
webman replied to mattx's topic in General Chat
@mattx: Here's a proposal. Why not set up an independent blog-type site (Posterous and Tumblr are good suggestions) where you post all your stuff. Then link to those from EduGeek. When the EduPolice delete your posts here, at least those of us with a sense of humour know you have an external presence and we can still read your stuff; even if it means we can't discuss them here. I don't think I saw the post that you mention, and this wrangles me because I enjoy most of your stuff -
What issues are you having with the 2008 side of it? Surely if you're presenting the NAS to the server via SMB/CIFS over the network, then it shouldn't care what the underlying filesystem is?

If the schools have static IP addresses, a web-based system could be set up where the tech accesses a "Check in" web page (perhaps with some form of PIN or ID). The resulting system should know which IP is assigned to which school in order to match check-ins for tech guys with schools.

New Posts: hide threads from certain forums?
webman replied to webman's topic in Comments and Suggestions
@sparkeh Sorry! I mustn't have searched hard enough @powdarrmonkey That would be useful, too. The message telling you a post has been hidden because you block a user half-defeats the point as well, in my opinion. From my view, if I hide/block something, I don't want to see any reference to it until I choose to actively seek it myself. Blocking/hiding is a conscious choice so you're aware of what you've done - it can't be done accidentally. -
How do your users report problems during lessons?
webman replied to apeo's topic in How do you do....it?
Use nearest available computer or phone. Some still send students with a note but we don't advocate it. Sometimes it's the quickest method though - which we must act upon if the computer is used to deliver a lesson... -
Is it possible at all, to allow members to hide threads in the New Posts list which are in certain forums? For example, some members might find it useful to hide the Jokes/Interweb Things forum and ones about technologies which hold no interest - therefore making it easier for them to see posts more relevant to them. Thoughts?

How do your users report problems during lessons?
webman replied to apeo's topic in How do you do....it?
All teaching rooms have a network-connected computer and we have a web-based helpdesk (Liberum) available to all staff. Staff complete a small form (Category, problem description) on our intranet which inserts the ticket into Liberum. Students report issues directly to the relevant teacher, who will then contact us. -

AFAIK, gmail.com has always worked for googlemail.com addresses, it has only been advertised, marketed and "officially" been googlemail due to the trademark issue.

As I said on Twitter last night, I wonder how many people (there was a large number) who agreed with the post from Apple, would still agree with Jobs if he said Flash was amazing. Over 90%?

Sorry, yes, that's what I meant

Can you not just connect a bunch of UPSs in series?

Of that ilk: Bones, Dexter, Fringe, FlashForward, and Leverage. There's also Warehouse 13 which started on Virgin but it feels a bit amateurish. Comedy: Modern Family, 30 Rock

If you want to run Windows 7, you have a couple of options - go vanilla, or move to CC4.

It's an event created by user acrobson. http://www.edugeek.net/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=21&day=2010-5-27&c=1 As he has set it to occur every 27th of May, one could make the assumption it's his birthday.

In that situation, there has to be a balance of interests between you as an employee and you as being a member of staff having a duty of care towards said child. Personally I would persuade the student to move at first, and if they refused I would stay with them and contact a member of SLT over the radio to assist.

Some would argue he's incapable of even doing the former...

Which week start dates - in the pop-up calendar on the bookings page? That's always got Sunday as the start of the week. If you go to Week Cycle > [edit a week], do those dates correspond with mondays or sundays?

We've had DEP interfere with IE and Zimbra before - perhaps this is one avenue you could investigate? To turn off in IE: Click on Tools, Internet Options, then the Advanced tab. Scroll down to Security and uncheck "Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks".

Ah, easier than I anticipated. Sounds like you have your solution sorted then
