Sounds like you have a similar usage to my family. My wife's car never does more than 100 miles in a day - and that is a very rare occurrence. She mainly does 5 miles here and 10 miles there with her car sat on the drive normally half of the week. A (fairly small capacity) full EV car would suit her well. Me - well I have a small commute of 5 miles each way but take longer journeys on a weekend - when I also pull a caravan weighing 1400kg. So the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV I got last week to replace the diesel fits perfectly. Pure electric commutes and a petrol engine to kick in when the battery is flat or the car is using lots of electricity pulling a big white lump along the motorway.

When a lipo is charged reasonably rapidly it creates heat, add to that the warm environment and the continued connection to a power supply (which will effectively power the device whilst maintaining a full charge) and you'll create some internal gassing. That pressure will cause the battery to swell and usually on an ipad that is just glued together, will cause the screen to be pushed out of the case. It looks to me like this charging solution has a lid with lots of holes in it for heat to escape. Stacking them sounds like it could have prevented the heat to escape efficiently. Unless this is a wide spread issue with the ipad pro - I think you are looking at your environment as the cause of the failure I'm afraid.

I think in the next five years we'll be looking at some manufacturers who are selling the electric version of a model for less money than the combustion equivalent. Chinese car makers are producing huge numbers of electric only vehicles now because of the licence plate scheme in many of their cities. Almost every manufacturer now has a electric offering and even Shell are rolling out charge points to many of their petrol stations - the industry is having to change. I completely take on board your argument that the energy used to manufacture a car is huge, and running an old car until it completely dies is a reasonable argument. However you are only accounting for CO2 - diesel in particular produces a lot more harmful gases than just CO2 out of the back. On Saturday I traded in my old diesel and upgraded to a plug in hybrid. If we had the cash I'd happily trade the other petrol car for a full electric too.

We've had experience of about 450 Samsung Evos (840s and 850s). We've had one warrantee claim in five years. As for ~120 vs ~240 we've never had any issues with 120GB. However you'll know your current clone size and profile size and management but if you're unsure perhaps 240 would be safer?

Due to the virtualization of the fortinets it may as well be a dedicated in house box. There's not been anything I've wanted to do which I couldn't.

I've been using Carpeek with my ACR122 reader - but it takes longer and show a great deal more than the UID. I built some RFID readers using an Arduino Pro Micro and an RC522 module - it simply grabs the UID and types it into anything you want, the Pro Micro acts like a keyboard. I did make it a bit more complicated using a keypad - that way I can press a button and it'll type the UID as HEX, DEC or the decimal conversion paxton uses where it knocks off the first to digits of the decimal UID. This helps me avoid the use of a spreadsheet to convert across the various standards - but isn't necessary. Total cost - about £3.80 plus a bit of filament!

Yes you probably don't want the vital AP to have everyones BYOD trying to connect to it on an evacuation... We use Unifi-AC-Mesh as our outside APs and we've setup a Nano5 bridge over to our offsite changing rooms. You can run the AP piggy backed from the Nanostation, so you just need one PoE injector plugged in, and no other equipment is required. Less than £200 for the pair and a pole.

There are two standards aren't there - 13.56MHz and 125kHz? Mifare Classic are 13.56MHz. FYI our Paxton gate reader reads every 13.56MHz tag I've waved at it - including my Chameleon Mini card emulator.

They may be requiring that the parents themselves give them the information - that way they have consent directly from the individual. They don't wish to process information which you have collated under whatever legal basis. One of our providers has made a similar move.

As mentioned above - although not really a backup solution by design, Google Vault allows you to restore files and emails from way back when (assuming you don't change the default setting).

Does anyone know if there is any issue calling the logon script provided as a scheduled task every few minutes? We've been thinking about this approach to combat the fact that log on and log off scripts don't run on switch user.

Thought about a standard home smart plug? Most will work over the ‘net. Wemos, tplink or cheap as chips option sonoff.

There hasn't been a school bell system here for more than 15 years. Lesson change over is simply done by staff telling the pupils its time to go - whether they keep track of time on their own watch or the PC clock will vary I guess. We have netsupport notify (party for a lock down situation), but don't use it for regular notifications. Using a PC to replace a bell system is always going to be hit or miss - rooms where speakers are swtiched off, muted etc. Rooms where the teacher hasn't (or can't) logged on for some reason etc.

I don't fully agree with this statement. Packages can be very cost effective and for a great number of schools they need to contact one 'internet' company in the event of an issue. When listening to feedback work out exactly what part of the package that customer is using and how happy (or not) they are with each element. Practically every supplier uses the same handful of wholesalers and therefore connectivity wise they are likely to be closely matched as a result. It's the other elements of the offering which add value and possibly some frustrations too.

My suggestion above what has already been mentioned would be to speak with school and ask them if they are aware of the Professionals Online Safety Helpdesk - It can be raised with them and if they see the potential for significant harm they will liaise with the various social networks. We've previously had a few accounts and posts removed with their help. We've looked at it too. I wouldn't use it here - it's so basic and cumbersome. We have offered to build an alternative for the site team - but they don't wish to move. :-( There is a SSO app which 'encrypts' the login information which we were shown after raising the concern @Marci mentions.
