Personally, I don't get on well with two monitors. Whatever I open, seems to go to the wrong one, which is why my second monitor is off 95% of the time. I only use it when I'm Gimping really wide images. I'd love a wider monitor, but I don't do enough wide images to justify it. I have an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro in the box and a matching pair of Samsung monitors. Worked great under W7. When we went W10, we had new PCs with VGA and DVI which meant we had to ditch one monitor and get a replacement with DVI. I didn't - I moved the ATI card to the new box and chucked on the W8 drivers. Works a treat - my desk looks heaps better than the rest of the teams.

Perhaps you should look at changing to a thin client solution. Ancient PCs make great thin clients provided you have servers to support it.

In Australia, there was a radio program about home machines and they would broadcast code for you to record on cassette and load into your C64. Sometimes it even worked!

This annoying file compression indicator has just popped up on all of our PCs. Does anybody know how to get rid of it? Mr Google provides no solution. We have the option "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in colour" disabled. Why does M$ insist on turning on random carp that we don't want?

Are you sure it isn't a real live bug? I've had thrips inside the screen on my TFT monitor and there are still 4 or 5 dead ones in there. Strangely, I never experienced this in the CRT days, so I think they are attracted to a particular wavelength of light. jinnantonnixx is correct though, there is a trend for sysadmins to fiddle with perfectly good websites and make them unusable. Excessive scrolling is one usual change they make. The Birmingham Mail updated their site yesterday morning. It was never been the greatest site but as part of the upgrade, they made the images huge and now you have to scroll forever to get to what you want. They are still using very low res images which were OK when they were about 1/4 of the size they are now, but look carp in the new large economy size. I think part of the problem is they expect you to use their site on your phone, which is all well and good, but often rejigged sites don't work at all on a phone.

We use Adobe CS on our graphics course, which is taught on Macs. They mostly use Illustrator and Photoshop but the entire CS6 suite is available to students. Top tip - Don't use wireless mice which the previous graphics teacher insisted were a must. A class set of 24 Macs each with a wireless mouse is entertaining! Gimp, Inkscape and Blender might be alternatives. I personally use these even though I have CS6 installed on my work box.
