Wireless Solutions, Which Is Best For A Large Primary School?
e4e replied to AlexBradley's topic in Wireless Networks
I have just installed Ruckus in 2 large primary schools. Which before the upgrade we had between 20 and 25 netgear ap's. Installed Ruckus and the quantity of AP's were reduced and cant fault the install. If you would like the contact of who I used pm me and can send you the details over. -
What I have found particularly when registering apple id's you can only do between 8-10 per day per ip. This seems to be known by several apple installers I have spoken to. One did mention you can get white listed for a time but never let on/knew how to get this done. But the last techie I worked with from a apple accredited company commented about download speeds being better for users having a caching server onsite using the apple OS X server over other MDM solutions here they seemed to get slower speeds. But this was a general observation other then hard fact

Probably logged your IP address and seeing multiple devices downloading the same update and locked you out some how. Had the same problem with some of ours, but just done them as and when . .

I had something simular with Acronis. And the easiest way I found to get it working was to take a windows media disk, delete all partitions then rerun the acronis boot disk and it will recreate all partitions.

I had a company called IComm install mine from Birmingham, they come under the umbrella of the IT Index/Probrand. Could not fault the support or install team.

What have you found wireless coverage like. I am getting told same coverage with less access points which is a concern to me. But the building we have is a single story built out of breeze block and brick with nothing nasty hidden to cause degradation in signal

We are in the process of getting quotes together for a new wireless network. I am taken with the Ruckus solution. Do any of you on here have any first hand experience of there offerings and why did you chose these over Meru, Aerohive and HP options. Thank you in advance

Thank you I will have a look at that. It's a starting point

About 2 to 4Tb with at least option for 4 drives. Like the idea of expanding it at a later date. It doesn't need to be rack mountable.

I am looking at installing a NAS box at one of my primary schools. I currently have 2 Netgear REadynas NV+ 4000. But looking at something simular. The school has 300 pupils and 40 staff. I am wanting something that will work with my server 2008r2 network and the schools iPads (with Mac server). Any suggestions please?

I have a strange issue with Windows 8.1 pro. I have several users logged into the school domain. they will go to a web page playing a radio station (eg Radio 2, wish FM etc). When they close the web browser (internet explorer) and shut the machine down without any problems. But here is the strange part. When they switch the machine back on and log onto the same machine, the music station carries on playing (opens up a new windows), I have also had another user today where the same has happened, but there was no Internet explorer window open, but when you went to task manager you could see it running in the background. You could end the task and the music would stop. Any suggestions?

We have just rolled out 28 iPads. We have installed a Mac mini server and it is so easy to manage them. I have a site on Meraki and i don't find that one as user friendly. And look at the Monarch range. The model we purchased will allow you to image 30 ipads in one go via USB.

I know this is an old thread. But I have just had the same problem and managed to get this working on Windows 7 Right hand click on "50 shared texts" logo in the relevant drive and select "run as administrator". If this doesn't work, it's possible to run this software through internet explorer (or any other web browser) as long as they have Flash/Quicktime and Adobe Reader installed. - Navigate to the drive you have "50 shared text" in, On the disk there is a "assets" folder "docs" folder the "50 shared text" program and a "Auto run", Open the "assets" folder, Right click on the "shell" file, Select "open with", Select "internet explorer". The software should now open in "internet explorer"

I have come accross this on some HP laptops. In the bios there is a setting (if i remember rightly it is the 2nd one in from the right side of the screen and in there it will allow you to remove the security key. then enable legacy boot becomes avaliable once these keys are removed. I am not at the site with these machines today otherwise i would give a more detailed response. You do have to go into the bios 2 or 3 times to make all the changes, you need to remove the security key save and reboot, then enable legacy then reboot then select boot order.

Could any of you recomend a company to install some data cable for myself. It is not a massive job only about 8 sockets and 15 to 20 metre run, through 2 walls into the server room. there is spare capacity on the patch panels and switches. I am based in the North West inbetween Preston and Liverpool. Any suggestions would be great.

Think you might. I am lucky that we have no ios devices which are critical in teaching as of yet. I have one or two teachers which fetch in there own ipads and that is how we discovered this. but our ap's are 3 or 4 years old so i could argue the need to replace. But they work perfectly with wg103

I have the same fault with the same model ap's. It is a fault with ios6 where you get unable to connect. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version with no effect at all. If you do a quick google search you will find it is not just this model there are several other brands giving the same fault, apple's stance seems to be replace with a brand which works with our devices.

I am looking at purchasing one of these two items (Smart Sync classroom manangement software and smart sync classroom suite) for a suite I am installing over the summer. The difference in what the software does is obvious. But the actually licensing is confusing. So far the quotes I have been given have got massive differences in price (£100's instead of a few pounds for a like for like quote) and all the companies are telling me different on what i need to purchase. For example I need a teachers version and student version to purchse. But the next company I speak to knows nothing of the sort about a teacher and student version. Obviously you need the teacher software then the pupils join that session. Has anyone purchased this software and if so what did you actually buy.

I am posting this in here as I am not sure where else to post it. we are running Windows server 2008 r2 domain with windows 7 enterprise clients. We have just had the Ricoh MP c5000 photocopier installed and networked to the server. All users are able to print to the photocopier in colour and b&w from any microsoft package. But when they come to use adobe acrobat 10 (all updates are on), and print from here the printers are not listed under the printer list. Any one come across this or any suggestions?!
