  1. I won't be the Content Manager, but I will have to administer the whole O365 side. One of the training companies we've contacted seems to break their O365 course out into 3 modules (at least email and Sharepoint) so we'll see how that goes. I don't know if RM offer any training (?).
  2. OK, that's good to hear. We may have no choice but to use it if we go with Unify, although the Site Creator will take some of the grind out it seems. This is part of why I think we ought to get O365 (and related Sharepoint) training ahead of going forward.
  3. Yep, I've heard raw Sharepoint is a nightmare, so best avoided...
  4. Site Creator was rather simplistic vs. Kaleidos. Of course one is not a direct replacement of the other.
  5. Yep, they will only be viewed by other users, so will never need to login. I'm thinking that creating them in AD might be more of a problem, IYSWIM. How do they then appear in the GAL, are staff and students kept separate? It could be a showstopper if they aren't. Also, can we add aliases to the email accounts, whether in Unify or Office 365 itself? Our existing email addresses are a different format, so it would be great to add those as aliases. (Sorry, I'm trying to think of every aspect that could go wrong!) I saw RM's YouTube video. It looked a bit too simple to me, but we are polling staff on what they want from a VLE, and based on that we'll see if Unify matches.
  6. The manual accounts will be for some administrative mailboxes, that are then shared out to various users. Does that mean they need to be created through Unify? Does Unify distinguish between staff and student mailboxes when created? Currently we have staff as initial surname, and students with date of entry to education followed by first name and surname. Hence they are all sorted in an easy to understand way. We'll use Site Creator if we go the Unify route. We're somewhat miffed with RM as they expect us to pay for it while we still have Kaleidos. Seems rather petty.
  7. plexer: and presumably they still have to have each individual account name and password anyway? (I can't see how else it would work) I thought there might be some enterprise level tool for achieving it. Edu-IT: apologies, the questions are cropping up one by one, albeit on somewhat different topics.
  8. How about the rest of it though, is it something that can be blundered through, or is it best to have training? I was surprised to discover it's a 4 day course, so not sure whether that's just money for old rope, or whether it's genuinely a complex beastie.
  9. Apols, new thread created.
  10. Hi folks, We might be moving O365 tenancies, with around 120 staff accounts to move. I have no experience of this at all, and one option is to farm it off to a thirdline consultant to do (RM do it, among others). I'm curious though as to whether it's just a case of exporting out each mailbox into a PST, or is there something more elegant? TIA
  11. This is with Unify integration, so I'm not sure how much that reduces the complexity e.g. automatic email account provision, albeit I'll still need to create some manual accounts.
  12. Hi folks, We're possibly switching from an LA (simplified) version of O365 to the full MS version. For those who've done it would training have been useful? There are obviously courses out there, and the one I've looked at is 4 (!) days. I have very little Exchange experience, assuming there are even parallels with it. TIA
  13. Sorry to hijack the thread slightly, but are there any bulk mail migration tools, or does it always boil down to a case of migrating individual accounts with Outlook? We need to migrate around 120 staff accounts from one O365 tenancy to another.
  14. This is requested directly through the O365 interface, via the MX record. In fact I've already had an email back to say we are eligible for MS academic pricing. Initially I couldn't figure out how to add an A2 sub, but I logged off and on due to some other issue and then it prompted me to "buy". I've just bought the zero cost licenses! Now to see if it has worked...
  15. Hi folks, We're just setting up Office 365 now on a trial basis. We've used a disposable domain name as our school domain is currently linked in to the LA's Office 365 sub. Does anyone have any experience of changing domains and MX records at a later date. Presumably it is possible? TIA
  16. Hi folks, We've just requested an A2 license. How long did it take from requesting to confirmation? TIA
  17. You have to enable the various settings in the imported ADM file - I enabled everything bar Hide Computer. I also found it had to be applied through a GPO that affected PCs explicitly. YMMV
  18. Which bit are you stuck on? It needs some knowledge of editing group policy.
  19. We're running on Hyper-V with 4 processors and 8GB of RAM. Underlying system is iSCSI (two host cluster with 16 core Opterons, and 72GB of RAM), which might not be helping. We definitely noticed a speed decrease when switching to this brand new system, versus a 5-year old physical server.
  20. An alternative to waiting for this dialog to appear is to just kill the RUNDLL32.EXE task. This then allows you to install 7u45. Slightly less tedious.
  21. I now have what looks like a broken 7u25 install. If I try and uninstall I get told there's an install in progress. I get that Interactive Services Detection dialog again, but if I confirm the error re. launching the DLL it then lets me install 7u45, which seems to kill the broken 7u25 install. Tedious, but a solution it seems.
  22. Retesting is getting the same "please wait". Perhaps the image used for these newer machines has some Java corruption issue. Will try uninstalling next.
  23. The error I'm getting is from a dialog labelled "Interactive Services Detection". It's telling me that "a program running on this computer is trying to display a message. The program might need information form [sic] you or your permission to complete a task." The program requesting attention is RunDLL. The message is, "There was a problem starting C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\\installer.dll. The specified module could not be found." Once I acknowledge that the message goes.
  24. Nope, no Java Quickstarter Service. Having turned on a room of 28 of the slower PCs a couple are affected, but the bulk not. The quicker PCs are all starting to get to the logon screen now, after an hour or so of "please wait". Java 7u45 has not installed, and there's no clues I can spot in Event Viewer. There is mention of the logon service taking around an hour to arrive (no surprise). I also got an odd client service message about Java not being installed properly, although Java 7u25 is purportedly on these machines. Retesting now with REMOVEEXISTING=1 added...
  25. Oddly it doesn't seem to be affecting our older slower HDD based machines. It's only our faster SSD based machines that seemed affected, albeit it could be some software difference. I'm waiting to see if/when the latter boot past the "please wait" stage and will check Event Viewer, along with the install state for Java.
