We were purely after something to move the tablets about, as they already have their own wireless charging solution. We ended up getting one of these, which has mostly been OK. One of the drawstring cords has ripped through the fabric, but I suspect that was due to student use. Also the Velcro that holds the bag at the top can sometimes come loose, no doubt due to the weight of the tablets. It's hard to say because it's got the Windows Hello functionality, so an array of cameras at the top of the bezel.

It's a fairly high end laptop, but no idea if there's an ambient light sensor.

Hi folks, While using the laptop last night I lamented the lack of a feature that adapts brightness to the surrounding light, a la the average smartphone. A bit of googling though turned up that Windows 10 has a feature called Adaptive Brightness, although for some reason this was turned off on my power plan. Has anyone used this at all, and does it work? More googling suggests it could be display driver dependent. (I've got an HP Spectre x360 with Intel HD Graphics 620 and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX, although I suspect it's just the Intel chipset that gets used for the Windows GUI) Thanks

With 2012 R2, I disabled the feature. Is that the server or client protocol, and how would I do the other bit? There's mention of registry changes in the above Microsoft article, but that only seems to be if you want to make the change via registry rather than features or PowerShell.

Firewall's off in the domain. Are there extra steps over and above just the straight switch off of v1? Oddly no other server seems affected, just our SIMS server.

I just tested, and with both SMBv1 disabled on the client (Win 10) and the server (2012 R2) I can't browse file shares or RDP. Odd! Was mostly thinking to disable SMBv1 for virus reasons.

Hi folks, I've spotted that SMBv1 is enabled on our SIMS server. If I disable it, I can no longer map a drive to it, and cannot deploy SIMS. Do clients have to have SMBv1 disabled to use SMBv2? Thanks

I managed to isolate the driver somewhat. I installed the driver on the laptop, and found that it used a SYS file in the extracted driver path PRO1000\Winx64\NDIS65 So I created a driver package and pointed at that, added it to the x64 boot ISO, recreated a bootable USB memory stick and... it worked! Thanks again all for the help.

And now another staff laptop has started doing it. Problems with the Google Earth updater I suspect!

Curiously, it looks like the PC is downloading the Google Earth client over and over, several times a minute. Previously I've seen mention of issues with build quality, and also difficulties with imaging. I can imagine the 32GB version is frustrating, because of the lack of disk space. We have one 64GB Linx 10 used by our Site Team, which was a bit tedious to setup with the latest build of Win 10 (driver issues), but doesn't look that different from the LearnPad Workbooks we have, and it was sub-£150 ex. VAT. I wouldn't expect tablets to last much past 3 years, but interested to know if there's anything better out there?

It unpacks to a lot of folders (the PROWinx64.exe file, that it seems a few Intel NICs use). There seem to be at least 5 folders, which then in turn have INF files within them. (Extracted files are 70MB)

Hi folks, I need to add some network drivers to my boot image, as I have a laptop that won't work with the default image. The drivers are for the Intel I219-V NIC, but when extracted there are many folders and INF files for the driver that Intel provides. Is there a way to narrow down which INF file is correct for the NIC, or should I just import the lot? Thanks

The difficult with WoL is when the machine gets stuck rebooting. That's when iLO is really handy, so something equivalent to that would be ideal, as long as it's Internet accessible.

Woah, and that model's expensive on eBay. £400-500 with no RAM or drive.

Another possibility seems to be a motherboard and CPU that supports vPro (Intel AMT) e.g. ASUS Q170M-C and an i7-7700 (can't be the K version). Albeit a bit of an expensive solution.

I wonder if an Intel NUC with AMT would be a good approach?

Hi folks, Is there something like iLO for a desktop? Specifically I need to be able to remotely turn off and turn on a PC via the Internet. Ideally something as cheap as possible, but not sure if any mobos have this. Thanks
