Hi folks, We have a need for at least a PCI Express 2.0 x16 card that has three outputs to drive three displays. The ideal is at least one VGA output. By chance, has anyone come across a card guaranteed to do this? Thanks

Not 100% sure what you're asking, but OVS-ES does allow you to have unlimited copies of Office and Windows client licenses (not server), based on the staff FTE count. It's certainly not free though, you have to pay for the staff licenses. (As an aside, the Microsoft "licensing specialist" confirmed he was wrong and apologised!)

@mavhc The 4k bit of the camera doesn't really bother me (file sizes are so big!) but even compared with a full HD camera it seems a lot of functionality and extras for the price.

We have had that request a couple of times, but we looked at software at the time and ultimately nothing came of it and nothing was bought. I did think about Go Pro's, but do they make a reasonable video camera? Do they come with a fisheye/wide angle lens? They're not an easy thing to handle, unless using a gimbal stabiliser. As mentioned above, one use could be static filming of school productions/assemblies, where quality is key.

We do have some LearnPads, which students use for filming. I guess it's about the requirement, and I'm thinking of something more traditional... I think a bit of zoom would be helpful. Not worried about low light. Just really good quality (full HD at least). This became evident when we wanted to film our school production, and they wanted 3 cameras (to cover a variety of angles) and our current 10-year old SD cameras were pretty poor. There's this on Amazon, which is a smidge below the Sony and Panasonic equivalents, plus a lot of extra. To good to be true? Hi folks, We've got several SD video cameras that I'm looking to replace. Video cameras seem a bit old hat now, and are clearly a dying market, so is it best just to replace with one of the dwindling hand-held cameras or get something else? What have other schools done? Thanks

I have an issue where permissions on student folders keep resetting, so while I look deeper into the issue it will be useful to have something that just gives me the quickest way to take ownership of a folder and also switch it back to inheritable permissions. I doubt this can be done on mass because this of course a subfolder of the student's home folder. I have a way to do it programatically as well, via TAKEOWN and ICACLS and a list of students. Next project will be to use PowerShell and read in the folders and do it, but need to find the underlying issue first ideally!

Hi folks, We have an issue where students' documents folders, within their home folders, suddenly loses their inherited permissions. The documents folder will only full/modify (not sure which offhand) permissions to the student. This has happened across an entire year group, so isn't something the students are doing, and they have only have modify permissions ordinarily. Any ideas what's causing this? In some cases staff access student folders to look at what they're doing, but obviously can't when this happens. Plus it's tedious to reset them all, albeit I've written a script that does it based on a spreadsheet of usernames. Thanks

Hi folks, We’ve got some desktop PCs we’ve fitted with USB wireless and also some new Lenovo laptops that are slow to connect to the wireless (latest drivers are installed). The knock on effect is some drive scripts don’t run because the logon (with cached credentials) happens ahead of the network connection. We do have the GPO “Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon” enabled, but curiously this doesn’t seem to have any effect. Anyone come across this problem and found a fix? Thanks

Local admin doesn't work either. Removing SIMS and SOLUS agent and starting again...

I did start with a domain admin account but will try also as a local admin.

Just to add, it doesn't appear to be a universal problem with 1809 because by chance we have a different model of laptop with it also installed, and SIMS is working fine on that.

Hi folks, Has anyone tried SIMS yet with Win 10 1809? I unwittingly upgraded some new Win 10 laptops to 1809. When I run SIMS it prompts for the location of the CONNECT.INI. I point it to the file and... nothing happens, no SIMS. If I run SIMS again I get the same prompt for CONNECT.INI and nothing again. Not sure if this is something new with 1809, or just another problem. Thanks

Yes, this was my feeling also. There are almost 100 tablets in the school (we directly look after a third of those) and over 300 more classroom PCs and laptops. Surely if the tablets are being cleaned it's pointless not cleaning the keyboards and mice as well? That's a full time job for someone!

My feeling is that if the requirement is to clean tablets, then the same applies to keyboards and touchscreens, but that's another discussion...

I suspect it will fall to us, but I'm guessing we'd need to use something antibacterial/viral, if such a thing exists for computer cleaning!

Hi folks, Our school nurse has requested that we clean tablets weekly (ideally) to prevent the spread of bugs. At the moment we get our staff and student desktops, student laptops, and classroom touchscreens cleaned annually in the Summer. Do any other schools clean more often than this, and specifically clean tablets? If you do what products do you use, and do you use anything that’s specifically antibacterial etc.? Thanks
