Hi folks, Not sure if there's any amateur (or professional?) photographers here. I have a question about using flashes with a studio setup. I'm reasonably well versed with photography, and know the various camera modes, shoot a reasonable photo etc. We have a (cheap) studio setup for taking staff photos, and new students that missed the school photographer, to try and get a reasonable head and shoulders studio-esque photo. I'm using a Canon EOS 700D with cheap Neewer flashes (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer-Speedlite-Panasonic-Olympus-Cameras/dp/B01N76K0SD) and an umbrella kit (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speedlight-Umbrella-600EX-RT-Youngnuo-Neewer/dp/B01ABFSAPU). The setup is a white background (projector screen), with one flash targeted at the background set to 1/2, and the second flash pointed pointed at the subject set to around 1/8. I've tried setting the camera to aperture priority (f2.2 with 50mm prime lens) as well as various manual settings. I'm getting mixed results. Sometimes the subject is overexposed, sometimes too dark, never a consistent good quality studio shot. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

Process Explorer shows that it's svchost.exe, unsurprisingly I guess! Not sure if it gives any detail on specific services?

Unfortunately it has grouped together loads of services: Windows Update, Windows Management Instrumentation, Themes, System Events Broker, Shell Hardware Detection, Remote Desktop Configuration, System Event Notification Service, System Events Broker, Task Scheduler, User Profile Service, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Certificate Propagation. Will give Processor Explorer a try, thanks!

Thanks. That solves the Windows Update mystery. I was under the impression I had to add "Authenticated Users" to GPOs that target groups of computers, due to some recent security issue with GPOs. What that has done is applied the GPO when I've logged in, GPOs that are only intended for WSUS on some client machines. I suspect it's not connected, but it does allow me to run Windows Update manually and check all is OK, which I'm doing now...

Hi folks, One of our DCs has a couple of odd issues, potentially related. Running Server 2012 R2. Since the start of the week the CPU usage has been sat at 100% for the Service Host process (this shows 15 services listed underneath). It's a VM, so last night I shut it down, added 3 more CPUs (total of 4) and bumped the RAM from 2048 to 4096MB. Now a single core is still sat at 100% but the server is at least usable. One of the services listed is Windows Update. If I go to Windows Update it says "Some settings are managed by your system administrator". It has shown this for several months but I haven't been too worried as it is receiving and installing updates. There is no Windows Update group policy applied to the server though, so I don't know why it is showing this message. If I go to GPEDIT.MSC and look at the Windows Update section, nothing is configured. Any ideas on what to troubleshoot? Thanks

btw this was a projector. To confirm it does have freeze.

@localzuk Do you know why the EB-U05 is a better choice? More rugged? Also as feedback, it's definitely not the lamp. I was able to swap a lamp out and it made no difference. Replaced with an EH-TW650 for now (which definitely has freeze!).

Do you know offhand if it has the "freeze" function?

I was inspired to count, and we have 45 Epsons, 25 of which are X-11's. The S6/S7's haven't been so great - lamps tend to fail around 1,500 hours. X-11's have been much better, with lamps going beyond 4,000 hours. As far as I can remember this is the first one with a fault. Going to replace with an EH-TW650 (15,000:1 contrast version) as Windows 10 is so rubbish at coping with projectors that aren't full HD.

Not complaining We've got about 20 X-11s, and this is the first to do it. My question really is just whether I try replacing the lamp, although I was 99% sure that lamp wasn't the cause. Unfortunately our maintenance/replacement budget went out the window when the government failed to address inflation...

Mentioned in the OP, but I've tried two different cables straight in the back of the projector and have the same issue. Annoyingly the menu's mostly in blue or grey, so doesn't highlight a loss of red - why don't Epson at least have an RGB test card function as part of the menu!

So 0% chance it's the lamp? (Having checked, projector is 7 years old)

Hi folks, We've got an Epson EB-X11 that doesn't produce any red. I've plugged a couple of different fully wired VGA cables into the back of the projector, still no red. Is it possible that the lamp is at fault? I'm guessing not, because I doubt they have separate red, green, and blue parts. My guess is the projector is faulty. Thanks

The problem with v6 is that it appears to be three separate installs to start with - the program, a synth thing, and the license tool. I also have a vague memory that it will only let me install it from CD, but I need to double check that. This is aside from the need to individually license each machine. Previously we used Ghost, and once a machine was imaged with Cubase we could just deploy it to multiple machines and the licensing didn't seem to care it was all done with the same serial number (we had paid for the number of copies in use).

Hi folks, We have Cubase 6, which I'm fairly sure cannot be network deployed - I've had a ticket in with Steinberg for a week now, and no response so far. Cubase 10 seems to be the latest version. Does anyone know if this or earlier versions can be network deployed? Thanks

Hi folks, Our Exams Officer has asked for a method of comms between invigilators in exam rooms and herself. Has anyone found anything that works particularly well? Of course there are mobile phones, wireless handsets for the phone system, and presumably walkie talkies with a silent function. Anyone had any success with any of these, or something else? Thanks

Hi folks, We provision Office 365 via RM Unify. A parent (who works in IT and uses Azure) accidentally discovered, as one of their children had been logged in to O365 via Unify, that if they then went to portal.azure.com they were able to see things like Active Directory. They can't do much there e.g. they can't reset a password, if anything. I know very little about Azure, so is this normal that an O365 user can get to Azure and see these sorts of things, or is this something that hasn't been locked down correctly? Thanks

Hi folks, Is there a way to migrate (and backup) not only apps pinned on the taskbar, but the items pinned underneath the app as well e.g. documents? Not finding anything with Google, aside from just the apps themselves. Thanks

Unfortunately the county require that we have this alias for certain types of communication, although there is the option of running it as a separate mailbox.

Whitelisting... so only specific people can contact this mailbox? I suspect we won't be able to do that, because of likely genuine emails from new people that might contact him. Mail flow policies... I can see a "mail flow" section in the Exchange admin center. Is there a particular part of that I need to look at?
