  1. Hi folks, I'm after some help with a domain authing issue. As background, we have a small forest with a root domain, and two child domains. We use Hyper-V, and have two core servers where there are VMs for DCs in each of the three domains (all Windows Server 2019). We have a separate physical server which also runs VMs with another set of DCs for each of the three domains. Over the Summer hols we've had lots of electrical work which has meant shutting down the core servers. These were started up again today, but the electrical contractors unwittingly turned off the separate physical server. The separate server will need to be shut down next week anyway, as they do electrical work in that building. I'm not brilliant with DCs, and these were setup by a predecessor, but my understanding is that as we have two DCs in each domain they should still work if the other DC has been shut down. We have done brief maintenance before when one server has been shut down, and it has seemed to work, but it was brief. This doesn't seem to be the case though with one of the particular child domains as I can't access resources in that domain, and I can't logon to a PC in that domain. I have rebooted the DCs, and the servers I am trying to access, and still cannot get this particular child domain to work. I have had a look at the Event Viewer for a PC where I have tried to access shares in the problem domain, but it doesn't give any clear errors. When I try to RDP to a server in the domain I get an error relating to Network Level Authentication. I can see some errors on the problem DC in the AD log, but they seem to relate to being unable to contact the other DC, which is as expected. Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this? Thanks
  2. The duplicate folder could explain it. I think the SIMS share being used is at D:\SIMS\SIMS, although the SIMS drive on a client maps to a share of D:\SIMS. SOLUS is putting the What's New PDF into D:\SIMS\Documentation, and in SOLUS at Environment > Target > Services > SIMS: SIMS File Server it's set to an installation path of D:\SIMS. So my guess is that SOLUS puts the What's New PDFs in D:\SIMS\Documentation because of that, but the SiMS client is taking them from D:\SIMS\SIMS\Documentation. Not sure if changing SOLUS to D:\SIMS\SIMS is a good idea...
  3. Thanks. That applies for SIMS documentation, but not the What's New PDF unfortunately.
  4. Hi folks, I've got a similar issue to a previous thread. When we apply the termly SIMS update the PDF it shows is from a past version. I've searched on the server and found that old PDFs are located in D:\SIMS\SIMS\Documentation, whereas the correct PDFs are in D:\SIMS\Documentation. I have gone to SOLUS 3 > Environment > Targets > Services > SIMS File Server and it appears to be pointing at the right place (D:\SIMS). Any ideas why the client is picking up this other folder? Thanks
  5. What make/model did you buy, and do they fit the Win 11 spec? I try to avoid refurbs because it's replacing very old with somewhat old, but conversely we've got 10 years out of our current desktops so depends on the age of the refurb.
  6. Not sure if I've missed this in the earlier pages, but what are people's thoughts about the CPU and TPM requirement versus the age of hardware that a lot of state schools have? We're running several hundred vintage desktops (5-10 years old), and although we would have to look at replacing them soon anyway, I expect this means we need to replace them all before the Oct 2025 Win 10 end of support date. That's going to be a huge cost to the school. Ditto for a few dozen laptops, although they're inevitably more likely to be replaced within that timeframe anyway. Could it be that MS will push the Win 10 end of support date back, or extend it for enterprise/education?
  7. Certainly with fast internet connections, why not have an online only mode? Oh well. Thanks for confirming!
  8. So when you use the desktop app it's opening direct from the cloud? Although I guess there are still temporary files likely to be stored locally.
  9. Hi folks, I think the answer to this is "no", but is it possible to use the OneDrive app, and have all files only available online? I've read around the topic, and it's confused by storage sense, and what you have set specific files/folders too, but as I understand it OneDrive will always download a file when you access it. The reasons I don't want them locally are (1) to eliminate any space the OneDrive app uses and (2) to avoid any data being on an unencrypted drive. Expecting a "no", but... Thanks
  10. Solved. We redirect the downloads folder to a network drive. This error only occurred when staff were outside of school, and Teams couldn't cope with the redirected downloads folder. I changed it back to a local folder, no error.
  11. Hi folks, I’ve been asked to find some sort of workflow solution for submitting training requests. Essentially a form is submitted with details of the request, one member of staff approves it then passes it to finance for approval, then it goes from there to the cover supervisor for checking. Is there anything simple and free/cheap out there that can do this form and basic workflow? My plan B is to use 365 Forms with email notification and rules, but it’s a bit clunky. Thanks
  12. So much for progress!
  13. It must be some change in the SETUP.EXE from the latest ODT. I remembered that I had installed it successfully on some other standalone laptops which uses a SETUP.EXE dated 10th Jan 2021. I tested again, and that still works. The newest SETUP.EXE dated 30th May 2021 throws up this error, so the quick fix for the moment is to use this old SETUP.EXE.
  14. Ironically we're in the middle of renewing our licenses, and our reseller are late (as per usual) so the VLSC is currently in limbo while the renewal is processed. Although I was sure the 2019 installer wasn't there, and you had to use the ODT.
  15. To-date I've always managed to use setup with the /configure option and download it on the fly, but I'm wary that often the installer gives an error suggesting a download issue and there's nothing wrong with downloading at all. For example, we had an issue where the installer would fall over if the Remove MSI line was in there. XML as follows, about as simple as it can be, at least from what I can see. PID obviously obscured!
  16. Running the SETUP.EXE from the deployment tool?
  17. Hi Folks, I’m unable to get Office 2019 to install. I’ve installed it many times before without issue, and I know I need to use the Office deployment tool which I’ve tried to use in conjunction with an existing XML that’s worked fine before. In this particular case I’m trying to install it on stand-alone laptops that we use for exams (hence why we’re installing 2019). The install fails early on with the error below. In terms of what I’ve tried to do to resolve it: I’ve downloaded the latest SETUP.EXE deployment tool, created a new XML, ensured that both the EXE and XML are in a local path that the user had rights to (I’m using the local admin). I’ve ensured that the machine’s Internet connection isn’t filtered, I’ve also put it on an alternate “normal” unfiltered Internet connection. I always get some error of the type below. Microsoft’s suggestions are an anti-virus or filtering issue, so I’ve also tested by removing the anti-virus (and as above I’ve tested with no filtering). I’ve also used their Office uninstaller to no avail. We’re sorry, we can’t continue because we weren’t able to download a required file. Please make sure you’re connected to the internet or connect to a different network, then try again. Error Code: 30182-2030 (2). Any ideas? Thanks
  18. Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. It's fairly infrequent which is part of what makes it difficult to troubleshoot. Sometimes just once in an hour, or worst case a couple of times in 10-15 minutes. It's only when the transmitters are on. The noise itself is just a second or so of very loud white noise, so it makes everyone jump. I'm sure it's interference of some sort, but I can't think of anything that's nearby that's an obvious cause.
  19. Hi All, We have two Sennheiser radio mics (EW100 G3) we use in a hall, and every now and then we get a burst of noise/interference. It only lasts for a second, and is fairly infrequent. I've asked Sennheiser, and they don't have any recommendations of frequencies to use. Currently they're tuned to Bank U.1 864.1MHz and Bank 1.1 863.1MHz, Does anyone know if these aren't great frequencies to use in the UK, or conversely have recommended ranges to use? Thanks
  20. I ended up getting a Room Alert 3E with the extra temp and humidity sensor. Ironically, we were having our server room aircon serviced the day I set it up, and the servicing peeps left the aircon switched off, so it got to alert on its first day of use https://avtech.com/Products/Environment_Monitors/Room_Alert_3E.htm
  21. Hi folks, We've got a handful of staff getting a Javascript error with the Teams desktop app. Typically reinstalling Teams fixes it, sometimes only temporarily though. The error points to the user's AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams folder, so in some instances we've uninstalled and deleted the folder the reinstalled. I've raised the issue with 365 support but they seem at a loss. They've suggested reinstalling the Visual C++ redistributable and .net 4, neither of which have helped. Anyone else getting this, and have any ideas how to permanently fix it? Thanks
  22. Hi folks, One of our X-Sensior TH-1 temp sensors has died, and they've gone end of life - a great shame, as they've worked well to-date. Any recommendations for something cheap and cheerful to replace it? It needs to be USB based and do email alerting. Thanks
  23. Exactly. After decades of putting up with projectors we were selling touchscreens to teachers as this cure-all solution. Then they plug a laptop in and it doesn't work because the cable's a metre too long or the wrong type. Really it should be more robust.
  24. I've had some mixed success with "premium certified" cables. In one classroom we have what I'm estimating is a 3m cable (non-premium) run to a wall plate, then we needed a 5m cable to get to the teacher's desk. I tried "premium certified" 5m cables from RS (described as "RS Pro"), Pro Signal, Antiference, and Cables Direct. The RS Pro and Pro Signal cables didn't work with our Dell Latitude 5511's, but the other cables worked. I still could not get Lenovo V15 laptops to work with the setup, but the Dell laptops are the priority. In another classroom I had a 5m cable run to the wall plate, which is presumably also not using a "premium certified" cable, then a 3m non "premium certified" cable. This wouldn't work with the Latitude. I switched the 3m cable to a 1.8m Pro Signal cable, and that worked. I'm guessing it will be a game of trying different cables for the moment to see what works, but going forward I will ask our installer to use "premium certified" throughout, and hopefully that will be enough for the Latitudes to work.
  25. I just double checked on our PowerPoint (365) and we don't have this setting. You can change the Show Set Up though to only show in a window, rather than full screen, and that stops the weird display switching.
