  1. Interesting. I'd need to test again, but I didn't spot any lag. I've also found out what a brush plate is, dating back to a question on the previous. I hadn't realised it was just an opening with a brush fitted
  2. @chazzy2501 Is that with Promethean? I don't notice much lag, but the staff here much prefer to either use the built-in annotation or whiteboard. @synaesthesia I've logged a ticket with Dell support, but don't hold out much hope. Testing 7.5m single premium cables is up next, then replacing the 10 or so we have. We'll be securing the cables to the desks to try and minimise staff crunching the plugs.
  3. This is definitely part of the issue we have, in that you can't seem to get HDMI premium wall boxes. But for us with Promethean we just don't get anything at all through a wall box (with a 5m cable to the wall box), and that's running at 1080p.
  4. Our problem laptops are Dell Latitude 3520, and they also have the Intel Iris Xe graphics chipset. We've also had the problem with Lenovo V15 laptops that have the Intel UHD chipset. I may have mentioned above, but initially Promethean support said they only guarantee their Nickel screens will work with the supplied 3m cable. They then changed to saying that they would support their screens with a single "premium" HDMI cable up to 8m long. I'm still in the middle of testing, and working with our installer, but the latest combination I've tested is a 5m Antiference premium cable with a wall box and a 2m Antiference cable from the wall box. That doesn't work with the Dell Latitudes. Works fine with our older laptops. The Latitudes were set to duplicate at 1920x1080, but it's interesting that you've mentioned resolution and frequency. I willl double check that it's not a signal send issue, assuming the driver will let me change frequency. With our installer's help I am going to test further with different wall boxes, and ultimately we may be stuck having to install with a 7.5m premium HDMI cable, assuming that works. I've got these on order for testing https://uk.farnell.com/roline/11-04-5805/audio-cable-hdmi-plug-7-5m-black/dp/2807794 I have logged a ticket with Dell support as well, although I don't hold out much hope of any changes on the laptop fixing it. (I have ensured it has latest BIOS and driver updates)
  5. Yes it was.
  6. Hi folks, Our 2019 servers were setup by a contractor to have cluster aware updating - we have a two host cluster. I'm fairly sure that when the updating happens that one set of servers default to one host, and another set default to the second host. Is this controlled by preferred owner? If so, the odd thing is that preferred owner has not been set, so I'm wondering if it's controlled by something else. The reason for asking is that we want to install a cloud backup client on each of the hosts. The backup client isn't cluster aware, so it will always be expecting the same VMs on each host to backup, so I need to ensure after a cluster aware update that the same VMs end up on each host, if that makes sense. I have found this (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/failover-clustering/cluster-aware-updating-faq), which suggests that if no preferred owner is set it falls back to whathever the previous role distribution was, but is this accurate? "Does CAU load balance the clustered roles? CAU doesn't load balance the clustered nodes, but it attempts to preserve the distribution of clustered roles. When CAU finishes updating a cluster node, it attempts to fail back previously hosted clustered roles to that node. CAU relies on clustering APIs to fail back the resources to the beginning of the pause process. Thus in the absence of unplanned failovers and preferred owner settings, the distribution of clustered roles should remain unchanged." Thanks
  7. Does Office refuse to work on the 2019 build, or just not supported? Not that even the latter is ideal.
  8. 10 years, if I understand correctly, as we can use Win 10 LTSC 2019 which is supported to 2029. None of our desktops can run Win 11, but we would have to start replacing anyway in the next few years. Suffice to say it's focused attention on that!
  9. My in-place upgrade worked, I seem to have Win 11 Education, no prompts yet to activate. Can't say I'm all that impressed, change for change's sake, but that is sadly the way of most software. More confusion for users. The biggest issue for us though is the hardware requirement, tens of thousands of pounds of hardware upgrades required earlier than expected.
  10. I've just kicked off an in-place upgrade of an Education version. Here's hoping it doesn't revert to Home!
  11. Any news on when it will hit the VLSC? If Wikipedia is to be believed there will an Education edition.
  12. @BenQ_NicolaP Is that in response to me, or someone else on the thread?
  13. Thanks. Interesting to know that Iiyama also have the issue. We've also seen it with Prowise panels, but I wasn't very impresed by the Android system on those, seemed unstable.
  14. Thanks for the info. Do they have built-in annotation and whiteboard, and what sort of cable lengths and setup do you have e.g. wall box, fly lead?
  15. We do like to keep it simple, but annotation and whiteboard are key for us. Does the RE7501 have sound as well? Can we get a quote direct from BenQ, or do we need to go to a reseller? (Is the bus anywhere near north-east Hants in the foreseeable? If it can get petrol!)
  16. Thanks. Do Benq have a 75" touchscreen with built-in annotation and digital whiteboard? Those are the killer features that staff here have got used to with Promethean. And if the screens aren't fussy about cable length and wall boxes that would be a strong bonus.
  17. I suspect part of our problem are the wallboxes, but it's a nightmare for schools having to open up trunking and throw away the entire cable when it fails with age or gets broken. Our longest cable runs tend to be 5m to a wallbox, then 2-3m to a desk. Perhaps 5m optical at least would be better? Where do you buy your optical cables from currently?
  18. Desktops are definitely better, which again points at a signal power issue with newer or some makes/models of laptops.
  19. QHD as in 2560 x 1440? Our laptops are only capable of running 1920 x 1080, although I'm not sure offhand if the screens are 4k capable. I'm assuming they just drop to 1920 x 1080 with our laptops.
  20. We have had the most issues with Lenovo V15s, which did seem rather cheap and I suspect were churned out during lockdown when laptops were like hen's teeth. But we still have issues with Dell Latitude 5410, 5511, and 3520. I'm sure it's a GPU power issue as well, perhaps to try and eke out even more life from a battery. We are looking at replacing all the cables with our recently installed Promethean Nickel 75" with Antiference (a make of premium HDMI cable) which seems to be the most reliable, but I still want to do more testing before we move everything over to these cables. Frustrating!
  21. I thought "TVs" (touchscreens) were going to be the end of all our projector issues, but no, it's a different set of issues. Sigh...
  22. With the previous model of Promethean (VTP-65) everything has been fine, it seems to be this newer model, particularly when combined with newer laptops (we've had issues with both Dell and Lenovo).
  23. Hi folks, We've had no end of problems with the newer Promethean Nickel touchscreens, as they are fussy about HDMI cable lengths, particularly with newer laptops. (Promethean have said we can't go beyond 8m, have to use HDMI premium cables, and cannot use wall boxes) I'm after recommendations for alternative 75" touchscreens which are (1) less fussy about HDMI cable lengths with wall boxes and (2) have built-in annotation and whiteboard? (Anecdotally I've heard that Benq are better, but some further information either way would be appreciated) Thanks
  24. I figure it out using nmap. Using that I spotted the devices were using Hikvision NICs. Hikvision = CCTV cameras. Some contractor must have added IP based cameras on the network without checking, and one of them was using the DC's IP address. Needless to say there will be words with them tomorrow.
  25. I was digging through similar posts and found one that asked for a bunch of diagnostic information. I did an IPCONFIG and spotted that the DC is using an APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) address (!). The reason being that there's a duplicate IP on the network. How?! I've used NBTSTAT to try and figure out what the machine is that has the address but I get a "NO HOST" response. I've used another tool to try and interrogate the IP and it's not giving me any information. How do I find out what this duplicate IP is being used by?
