I don't think there's a dedicated thread for this so thought I'd make one to try and get some feedback from others regarding logon times on Windows 10 images. So far it's been pitiful on our test machines, anything from 30 seconds to more than 60 to set up a new user profile on a shared device (Surface 3, Dell Venue 11 Pro, VM) In a shared use scenario that's going to give a very poor user experience, especially with Chromebooks booting in 10 seconds (OK, different product, web only etc etc but users don't really care about that, just how long it takes for the kit to be ready to use). I've heard LTSB is better but we'll need to build a few machines to test, likewise I wonder if the stripped down images some have been building helps too as less apps have to be provisioned in the first-run process. Would be very interested to hear of the results others have had, some useful info would be: Windows 10 Edition Windows 10 Build Number Default image or customised with apps removed? Time taken for a new user to log in, from clicking login button to seeing the desktop Hardware used (if there's a wild difference in results between different kit)

OneDrive for Business Next Generation Sync Client now available
gshaw replied to Arthur's topic in Cloud Services
It's been much better on my Win 10 laptop during the beta but let's face it MS couldn't have done any worse than the old Groove client which was hopeless. Still doesn't help most education users though, sync is no good for shared use machines. It's not even much use for 1:1 devices if those devices only have 32GB storage! -
While you're in the Admin console look for user-created Groups if you haven't disabled it. Users can create their own collaboration spaces, great feature but also prone to some rather random content appearing too.

Good luck with the the IP ranges. We tried it and MS change them so frequently you'll be forever playing catch-up. We often found similar-but-different ranges being blocked and checking them out all were owned by MS so I'm not convinced about that web page being accurate at any given time.

Microsoft shrinks OneDrive storage for Office 365 and free users
gshaw replied to edutech4schools's topic in General Chat
Microsoft have relented and finally done the sensible thing, about time too https://gshaw0.wordpress.com/2015/12/11/onedrive-storage-saga-microsoft-sees-sense-at-last/ -

KB3114349 sounds promising, perhaps a reworked version of the previous KB2975838 patch that didn't make it onto WSUS. Will see how it goes... -
@dry just checked the BIOS on one and there is an auto-on when USB connected. Ours seem to always come back on even if I flick the socket switch off so I'd say yes to your question above

Outlook 2013 crashing - AFTER the fixed KB3097877 update installed
gshaw replied to burgemaster's topic in Office Software
@LeMarchand @stgoodyeara Just tried applying KB2975838 on a test VM after it seemed to help a couple of users... launched Outlook and boom... crashed again Will have to see what Patch Tuesday brings tomorrow... -
Yup we use the Compute Sticks as signage players now as well, although I run them with a USB NIC as the built-in Wi-Fi is a bit ropey https://gshaw0.wordpress.com/2015/10/28/intel-compute-stick-digital-signage-on-a-stick/

Will be interesting to see what combination of updates are on the unaffected machines too if you get a moment -

@LeMarchand not the outcome we were hoping for. How about uninstalling KB3101488? -
Just landed on the same page via Google, does look good

This is the biggest one we've had in about 2 years of running O365 for all staff and students. The closest was a seriously borked SharePoint update that broke that particular side of the platform the day before we launched our new site (!)

Quote of the day from another site... "Microsoft are having ID problems... Inactive Directory"

Loaded once for me but timing out 2nd time round

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/status/#current Looks like the Azure AD errors in DirSync were the sign of things to come...
-
Sophos seems to be doing that for us pretty well by itself at the moment
-
We've been getting odd errors from DirSync in the last day or two that some people reckon are Azure AD related: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/2050fdd2-2392-4a93-aeb2-ac0c1120d314/aadconnect-identity-synchronization-error-report?forum=windowsazuremanagement
-
Haha was just thinking the same
-
Still no joy for me, based on what a few other contacts have been seeing it's possible to get the odd page load but then it falls over again next time
-
Was going to have a poke around Azure today and a few other funkier bits of the O365 admin console... the best laid plans and all that
-
Dead for me too! Kinda ironic we can't check the health status as the dashboard is behind a login page under Admin
