Cheers, I have done this and no extra GPs have been displayed. All win7 GPs have been working fine for other windows 7 machines without having a central store.? I dont even have the "Logging and Tracing" sub folder.... Do I need to update the store somehow?? Thanks Tim EDIT: I downloaded the pack from M$ and updated the policy store. Now I see the additional GPs... Right now to test.. THANKS ALL!

Thanks for the reply, In our "Policies" folder we have folders for each GP with a long name, e.g. {2BDB3A41-FEC3-4374-8122-49D1A37887C3}. But no folder within called "PolicyDefinitions" Is this something that I was supposed to have setup? Thanks again

Hmmmm, I dont have these in my "\system\Group Policy" folder.... Im editing GPs with a win 7 SP1 with RSAT installed. Our domain controllers are still Server 2003, this shouldnt be a problem should it? Thanks in advance

Just out of interest this is a USER policy so placed in the student or staff OU. How do you deal with different locations? e.g. In the library students need a different start menu to the ICT Suite. Currently with have loopback processing enabled and a GP in the COMPUTER OU for that group? Is there a better way? GPP ?

Hi, I have moved from using group policy deployment using the printing management console, over to Group policy preferences. Some of the Windows 7 machines are hanging on "Applying Group Policy Printers" for ages. Then after this it then runs the correct GP "Map Printers (GPP)" Am i right in thinking that as i have switched to GPP i shouldn't be even seeing the "applying group policy printers" as it isnt doing anything?

This ended up actually being a Group Policy error. We set "Start Menu" to be excluded from roaming profiles. but so some staff that logged in to certain machines had the start menu copied back to their server profile, with a copy now in there server profile they got this old start menu where ever they logged in, instead of the correct one.

We are using "File Server Resource Manager" to control quotas. Whether its a bug or supposed to be like this for a reason i dont know. But each user, in "My Computer" shows the whole server drive quota not their individual quota set by FSRM. So they see the nice graph/bar in win7 and think "oh ive got 500gig of 1tb left." The only was to get they to show the correct quota is share each home drive, but ive read as Glennda has said this might have a hit on performance.

Hi all, I have recently excluded several folders from getting copied back to the server in roaming profiles. The reason being that some software was bloating the roaming profile and was rarely needed to roam with the user... these folders were all in the "application data" folder... I now need to make sure that the server copies of their roaming profiles do not already have these folders in there or they will simply get copied back each time... Does anyone know of a script that will run and delete selected folders from all of the user profiles without me making a huge bat script please? e.g. need folder "Dreamweaver" deleted from 300 roaming profiles from the Application data folder. delete \\server\staff_profiles$\user1\application data\Dreamweaver delete \\server\staff_profiles$\user2\application data\Dreamweaver delete \\server\staff_profiles$\user3\application data\Dreamweaver so that I wouldn't have to copy 300 staff names down into a BAT script to delete them from all the profiles. You may want to remember to remove the script after your done as another future hotfix may get overwritten. Goodluck

Right ive found a bug.... If you attempt to map a printer or target any OU that contains the charactor "/" it crashes the MMC.. Eg. "Maths/ICT Printer" or "PCs_Dance/Drama" Hope this helps someone

I have two final problems that I am struggling with. One Shared printer when I try and select it from the list it always crashes the MMC. Also, when i try to target two other printers to the OU (Win_Vista_PCs) containing our windows vista PC, MMC crashes with the following error: I have had to get around this by targeting the netbios name and adding in each computer name with an OR filter.

Right, thanks for the help. I have my "Order 1" GPP set to "Delete all" but then filtered this to computers must be in "PCs_School" OU (so it doesn't affect laptops) All other printers are set to update. Does this sound right please?

erm, cover staff who travel around the school doing different lessons each day or ICT teachers who will log on anywhere is the school but want to print to their office. I guess if they ask then GPP can install based on username/ou

I am just switching to GPP for my users mapped drives and printers... When a staff user with a roaming profile moves around the school they get a build up of printers in their profile from each room they visit. Has anyone who has successfully deployed printers with GPP found a way around this?? Thanks in advance

I have kind of sorted it.. main problem was a GP setting.... Remove Common program groups from the start menu Removes items in the All Users profile from the Programs menu on the Start menu. By default, the Programs menu contains items from the All Users profile and items from the user's profile. If you enable this setting, only items in the user's profile appear in the Programs menu. Tip: To see the Program menu items in the All Users profile, on the system drive, go to ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. Now just the problem that most staff v2 profiles have a copy of the server start menu in the roaming profile! So when they log in connected to the network in school they have 2 start menus!! I have "Exclude directories in roaming profiles" enabled and have "Start Menu" listed as a folder, but still most of the staffs V2 have a copy of the server start menu...

I have GPUPDATE /FORCE each time and also checked in RSOP that there is no redirection set.. They get literally a startup folder accessories, maintenance and shortcuts to IE Pls help!

Hi, We have the start menu "in school" redirected to \\server\startmenus\programs ... This all works in school, but I was wondering what the settings should be for laptops? When staff are on their laptops I would like them to see the locally installed programs ("C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs") But when I set the start menu redirection to : "Redirect to the local userprofile location" ("C:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs") They get any empty start menu? The only way that I can sort this is buy copying the contents from the ProgramData startmenu folder to the one in the users roaming profile? Could someone with success please let me know how I get the laptops to display the local start menu? Thanks in advance
