I'd imagine the Eee has a damn good aerial, which is more use for AP detection.

We just installed the P2V app, ran through the wizard, then it vanished from the task manager and existence! Stupid thing. It seems happier to be run on 1 machine, and to P2V a machine that's network linked to that machine it's running on..so that's that we're doing. 2 hours remaining..then that's another server virtualised.

We're currently trying to VM most things here, and we're trying to move a server over using VMWare P2V converter 3.0.3 (new one). I used an older version that went through the wizard fine, as does this one..however, when you click the final button to make it start, it dies. Totally. Is there some knack we're missing here? It's making me curse about as much as the sharepoint server I'm configuring.. Thanks in advance..

My Astra (OK, it's not new, it's a '97) was an ex-motability fleet car...find an auction or dealer that deals with those, you're laughing. 3 year old motors, regular service, histories, all maintained by Motability. Mine had 1 owner post motability before me..I have a stack of papers, service recalls, receipts for work done, Vx dealer papers, motability docs and all that with it. For an 11 year old car with 130k on the clocks, it's been incredibly well behaved. Tyres, new brake disks and pads...the only real failure I had was a blown headgasket, and that was me taking it windscreen deep through a ford.. Bodywork and so on is spot on.

Bloxx/PCE enforce strict safesearch..it's pretty good. Google annoys the tits off me though... /gwt is a filterbusting pain..iGoogle is a pain..so much stuff on there is a pain...I want JUST the search engine..

Even with Bloxx set up nicely and PCE running with all options set - unless you go whitelist, they'll always find ways. No home supervision. We run NetSupport across our suites...that's funny. Yesterday..a class of 30, 20 screens with breasts on. Well, there's another for the blocklist... EDIT: Oh yes...Shrek research...that was hilarious. In theory I should qualify for a blue badge...however, last time I was assessed I was..12? Ish. I could walk maybe 1/4 mile with crutches, and rest stops. I don't recall being evaluated since. That wasn't long after coming off the chair for the xth time. I've been told several times that I don't qualify - and to be quite honest I'm past caring..heh..the more walking I do, the better it is. I can now do the 20 minute walk each way into my local town and back for the shopping, as long as I can sit and chill once or twice on the way. It's understood that carrying heavy kit up and down I can't do, and high level work is not happening..it's dodgy enough standing on tables doing projectors as the second I raise my arms above my head, I tend to fall over...imagine showering, and you see the issue. . Fine soldering (in fact, fine work in general) is more akin to slash'n'burn repair. It's also known that I have little or no feeling in my feet, so I have to be careful with that, and I have no temperature sense..so I need water on hand most of the time and in theory I'm not allowed to cook, as I can't feel what's hot. All in all, it's minor inconveniences. I worked in mainframe IT originally at the council and doing off site support, then moved into schools for the breaks and "less strenuous hours"..although 8.30-5.15 is not that different.. It can be tiring, but it's also fun. I'd go SPARE sat at home moping. In a way, I'm thankful for my condition..it's quite an eye opener to see how badly designed and implemented some buildings are when you're in a chair/scooter/on crutches..but there are always ways and means round it..it's not like we're in the stone age here. That's why I get so annoyed..occupational health wallahs are there to assist if you need special kit..there's not much excuse! Some members of the DMF (Disabled Motorists Federation) I know are FAR worse than I am, and they're merrily doing voluntary work and fundraising, organising trips to russia to help over there and so on..we have it easy over here even if we're less able..there really is no reason to wallow..

The inspections are useless...and before anyone says anything, I am speaking AS a disabled person, albeit one who's worked from day 1 and refused to "play the system" as it were. I've seen too many people with the motability car, massive benefits, sticks, chairs etc that in the privacy of their own homes are as able or more so than I..yet the second they go out in public or think they're being watched adopt the "hunched over, "woe is me I can barely stand"" act..then they sit there and crow at me about how great it is that they get their pick of a new car every 3 years, they get all this benefit, "you should reapply - I'll even alter your paperwork and act as witness" etc..I've come close to chairing people before..it annoys me that much. I have an EX-Motability motor, it's mine, I like it. I am on the lowest rate mobility allowance, and I have a self bought fold up walking stick..and that's me happy. I've seen it in pubs as well...whatever day of the week is benefits day, the number of walking aids that appears is magic..yet any other time, everyone's fine. The system is FAR too lenient and trusting, and FAR too easy to play. They need to do stealth observations of claimants, not advertised ones..be proactive and they'll catch so many out. They also need to tighten up the whole system - it's so open to abuse it's laughable. Those that tell me I'm a fool and should exaggerate my condition to get more cash etc really sod me off...I worked damn hard to be upright, walking and self supporting - I'm not going to play the damn "spanner card"...I'd rather take pride in things and know that I earn my money. Those that are genuinely badly/medium term affected - yes, aid them. Others..hell no. Move them into more suited job roles that fit their needs, don't just sign them off. Make the buggers work. If I can work with heavy surgery to both legs, a duff knee, no balance, limited motor control and CP with no issues, with nothing more than frequent rest breaks, access to a lift for moving stock, and a decent chair...there's no excuse. We're even kitting the new facility out to suit less able people, which will make my life even easier.. Sorry..minor rant..

Hightower...google "Wonko's World"...my friend there has a similar opinion.. I gave up getting angry..we'll be screwed every which way..all we can do is try to ride it out. I've given up any hope of the housing ladder unless it really REALLY tanks...and I just keep reminding myself if it all goes FUBAR, we can move back in with my mother..not ideal, but not the end of the world. I'm choosing to see it as a challenge..."find the cheapest way of fulfilling the objective". Also looking at purchases and thinking "Do I NEED you?", and "What should I get NOW, that'll be useful and not become defunct in short order". Also distraction works...I've got back into my electronics hobby...parts cost pennies, and it's very absorbing.

Heh..sorry for anything you disagree with...I'm just feeling a tad ranty and fed up with the whole general cockup that is UK of late. We're taxed off our tits, yet they spend money like it's going out of fashion. How much goes on improving things? Not much that's visible. How much goes on payrises for london "out of touch" government idiots, into the pockets of councils who in my view are not run by people with common sense, into "traffic management", urban regeneration, arty-farty TWB projects and other damnfool moneysinks...too much. Look at BSF, and if I annoy anyone here, I'm very sorry, but this is my view.. I approve of the new buildings bit..we need those. Ditto new equipment, and new facilities. Everything cycles, and education has changed out of recognition in 40-50 years. We need to keep on the edge of that, or we're useless. So I approve of that aspect. I do NOT approve of the idiot outsourcing to 1 company and removing schools local support staff..it is NOT the Gov'ts place to "micro manage" everything..they do it with Hospitals, schools, everything..they need to back off, and wind their necks and spending in. We've got far too lazy in the last 20+ years..far too used to the cushy life, decent pay, cheap everything, and waste generation due to convenience and "self improvement". We've wound down this country and outsourced everything, we've encouraged the welfare state and benefit claimants, we've encouraged people to look for the "easy option" instead of taking responsibility. We've made our bed. Now we have to lie in it. Our grandparents managed it..they had less, it wasn't easy, but they coped..now it's cycled round again..can we cope? EDIT: Yes, I agree with overstaffing in some places..and I agree with the performance review bit. Too many overpaid people, too many people not paid enough. Even it out. Proper perfomance management and all that. We have a PRP system here...sort of. Works well.

Most people spend far more than they need and have far more than they require for living..Sky/cable/expensive kit/plasma TVs/fags/booze - it's all luxury items. I'm on 13k. I've been on that wage since I started. The missus is on something similar. We're renting at 550/PCM (not including council tax and all that guff), and yet with careful budgeting and living within our means, and making do with older/cheaper kit..we're financially unbothered at this time. It'd be nice to be paid more, but I'm not going to go crying because every other idiot wants a payrise or has had one..if people learned budgeting and thrift, they could manage far easier. Sorry - I can't help but rant sometimes...screaming "I want a payrise" is SOMETIMES justifiable..but just to "keep up with the joneses"..? No. I don't think the police or tanker drivers should have had the increase. I don't think MPs should be paid any more than we are. I think councils, schools, businesses..in fact most of what I see should be taken to task over spending, waste, and sheer idiocy in finance, and I think this country has developed into a whingy, greedy mess.

I'm just trying it on my localhost setup here...Uniform WAMP server, PHP5, MySQL etc. Looks good, but it's throwing errors trying to do certain things..and I'm seeing things in the error log that it thinks are missing.. WAMPserver that Webman recomends is throwing up empty pages for me..I'll have another poke at it. We use MRBS at the moment, and while it does the job, it looks...well..dull...

In order to backup something, you need access rights I'd say. We have LEA backups right now, but all tech level users have child user area access...not staff areas though. Child area access is invaluable for games control, work recovery, printing and so on.

We did it cheapass style... Had a chat to the caretaker, got an old wooden cabinet with a shelf in it. One big shackle lock and padlock later, job jobbed. Holesaw in the back for cabling and ventilation, one mains lead, 2 video leads and the sound wire coming out. CRT monitor (not pretty, but tough) on top of the cabinet, holes drilled into the cabinet and CRT, big cableties holding it firm. Speakers either side of the CRT, tied into location. Inside the cabinet are a 4 way power brick, a Sempron 3000+ PC, KB, mouse, video splitter and sub, and the remotes for projector and presenter. The whole cabinet is secured to the wall with a kensington. it's what UBCD is based on.. UBCD will do the same.

I tend to do it using a USB drive plugged in that has a copy of ghost itself and the image on, and boot the machine with PEBuilder..which gives you a windows-y shell and access to the drive. Is a PITA though.
