Assuming your students are in a security group for each year group: advanced folder redirection - specify locations for various user groups and then within one redirection dialogue you can specify different folders for each security group. Only one gpo gets processed, and everyone gets their redirected folders.

Check your folder redirection.

My other thought would be, is it possible that you still have an old IE maintenance proxy entry anywhere? This will completely spanner the application of proxy settings from any other sources.

I scrapped 30 Fujitsu Siemens Scenics, weighed in at about quarter of a ton and netted the school £20, which isn't much, but it's very little effort and the scrappy is on my way home and it's no big deal to stick them in my big estate car.

We've used the Hue camera, and the MS lifecam and the raspberry pi camera for this all with perfectly reasonable results.

In my previous school, it was read only with hand in folders as it was a secondary. Currently I'm in a primary federation and it's full access so staff can paste resources to individual students and place copies of group work into individual user folders.

Re: raid... I've got a single server set up as follows: Drive 0, 300gb 10k sas, server reserved (dell) Drive 1,2 300gb 10k sas, raid 1, host OS Drive 3-7 1tb 7.2k nl sas, raid6 general storage. Drive 8,9 1.2tb 10k sas raid 1, vm OS' Drive 10,11 1.2tb 10k sas raid 1, 100gb exchange db. It's not the only way, but it suits us.

I've also had problems with these startech cards negotiating a connection at PXE time. I've had to limit the switch port to 100mb full to get them to pxe.

We've been on a BT FTTC and it was OK. Latency was noticeably higher than the leased line, but it was generally OK, we're a mixed 3-4 form entry junior school with just under 400 pupils and about 150 devices. Given the option I would stay on a leased line but you know, money talks so start looking around.

I'm not going to lie to you, I was sweating blood that it was all going to sync up again. But I took precautions of ensuring a good backup and taking the existing server nic mac address with the p2v, I booted the p2v'd machine without the network connected to ensure the new VM booted, which it did, and then I connected the network and away we went, we did it on a friday evening and no one even noticed. I would have preferred to do it your way too, but I had the extra pressure of an out of warranty server with a failing raid in it. I'd already replaced 2 out of 5 drives in 3 weeks and I wasn't fancying my chances of a third rebuild. Most of the time I find the p2v's fail because of odd disk configs (usually in windows) or remnants of a hyperv on the machine you're p2v ing which will cause a bsod when you try to boot the new VM. I've p2v'd, I think, 8 DC's successfully with that knowledge and careful planning.

And now with failover cluster in one school... OMG you have no idea how happy it made me to be able to configure cluster aware updating and just watch as everything is live migrated off one host, updates done, host rebooted, everything migrated back, the updates done on the other host and rebooted, without any down time, no one noticing and pretty much without lifting a finger!

I've got a paper form for HR to fill in: This gives me: The name they want to be known by, Their job role, Either a user to copy from or a series of tick boxes to define what access they need. I create it all, fill out the second section confirming access and recording username, email address, other account names and passwords (all systems force change on first login) and fob no. and hand it back to HR. The new starter signs it, HR takes a copy and gives a copy to the new starter. The form also has a brief AUP and all the login URLs and telephone numbers for support on the back

If you have an EES or OVS with MS it doesn't make sense not to use HyperV as you get most of the features you'd have to pay for in VMWare, even if you have to licence a DataCentre install to get the number of VMs you need, and particularly if you enable replication or clustering, it's still cheaper than VMWare. I'm in the process at the moment. I have a school which had a physical DC which did everything. I've bought a new server with 12r2 Datacenter on it and I've P2V'd the DC. I've split off WDS and WSUS onto a new 12r2 VM, split off Impero onto another 12r2, I've built a new 12r2 File server and we're slowly migrating shares onto that. I've brought up a 2012r2 DC but I haven't got round to Promoing it in yet, that's a job for half term.

I don't know what value this contract me likely to be, but we chose not to use a framework. I got representative quotes from 4 different manufacturers (Canon, Ricoh, Toshiba and Kyocera) picked the one that gave me best value (Canon) and then went out to 4 suppliers, 2 local, 2 national, who could provide like for like quotes on the technology I was happy with from the previous step and the one who offered the best value was the one that got the job. One national supplier wrote themselves off immediately by trying to pull the wool by quoting their colour rate as single colour not full colour, and by hiding the fact that any machines they supplied would be reconditioned in the small print. In the end we went with Canon UK directly as their service stats were much better and their total price was only a fraction higher than than the cheapest quote who didn't offer auto supply ordering or 4 hour response.

Quite. I have one teacher who uses it pretty much all the time, even in school, he basically just uses his laptop as a thin terminal!

I think the 2012r2 RDP offering is vastly superior to 08r2.
