Please, if you consider buying of these, then feature wise, take Ruckus. Netgear´s software support is sadly very basic. The time when Netgear had a good wifi platform was, when they had OEMed Aruba devices (Aruba MC800 == Netgear WFS709TP) for sale. Talking about a low budget solution. I´d prefer Ubiquiti Unify over Netgear, then.

Hm, which features are you talking about? Is it the optional 10Gbe you are talking? Softwarewise I cannot find anything the 2910 is able to do the 3Com cannot. Btw, is there´s an area where the V1910 doesn´t have an HP warranty, the 2910 wouldn´t have that one there, either... As I mentioned before, both are non blocking switches. So both deliver "true gigabit"

Well, it´s really nothing more that both switches support non blocking switching: - V1910: [24x RJ45 ports plus 4x SFP slots(Those SFP ports are not shared with the RJ45 ones)] * 2 == 56Gbit/s - HP 2910: [24x ports @RJ45/SFP (the 4 SFP ports are shared with the last 4 RJ45 ports) plus 4x 10Gbe optional modules] * 2 == 128 Gbit/s The price of the 2910 is more than twice as much of the V1910. Running also a bunch of 4800. LACP with 2x 1Gbe is running fine, 4x or 8x would be simply too much for us. 10Gbe slot modules are a little expensive. Next switch generation for new building will be 5500 HI series, though. If you are a true fan, you know the truth about the V1910, like me ^^ Well, but in reality, there´s no continuous download at that speed. Surfing youtube, Skype, chatting, ... Nothing really exhausting.

Do you want a controller based setup? Questions, which could occur, next: Do you want to simply plug in the access point into every subnet, want the access point to gets its IP address and the IP address of its controller with e.g. "master.mydomain.com" from DHCP? Do you want your access points connect to its controllerm, so every traffic will be forwarded over it (and not into the local subnet)? Do you want your clients getting their IPs from the controller, not from the local subnet? Do you want the controller itself source NATing all clients? Do you want the controller itself having a real statefull firewall running? What about IPv6? Do you need all wifi access points running a IPv4/IPv6 dual stack for now? Do you want your clients getting IPv6 addresses, too, so they can browser IPv6 www? Do you want your controller having an IPv6 stateful firewall? (No, I do not know any wifi solution doing all this...)

Let´s wait for another 3-4 weeks. Then the new Ubiquity Pro access points will be available. Unfortunately I cannot find any data sheet. But it will get 3x3:3 MIMO and simultaneous dual band support...

Well, I actually talked about features. Therefore a HP 2910AL looses against a A5120-EI, a 1810 looses against a V1910, a 3500/5200/6600 looses against a E4800, a 8212zl looses against e.g. a A10500, except you want openflow, for now There´s a reason why HP purchased H3C/3Com...

Well, hardware is not everything. Look at the software features, instead. e.g. HP 2910al. Great switch, more power than a 3500yl, 10Gbe options, but software? It is still on "procurve version 14.x" No signs of K.15 HP 1810: Look at the firmware size and compare to the V1910 series... LACP with 4x 1Gbit/s is working very well on the V1910 (== ex 3Com 2928/2952 series). Talking about the A5800 (== H3C S5800). You take that one, if you like to build e.g. a MPLS/VPLS network, running BGP IPv4/IPv6, OSFPv2/v3, ISIS IPv4/IPv6 with PIM-SM/SSM IPv4/IPv6 multicast routing...

So good thing: You haven´t bought the Netgear. Please consider buying something else, e.g. HP E4800 (JD009A) because almost everything else has better software support than Netgear... Well, Yes, as you have 24x SFP modules, you could use more than one 1Gbit slot of your server and do link aggregation (e.g. with LACP protocoll) How much money did you get to upgrade your network? Imagine you buy two of the mentioned HP E4800 switches. You could stack them with stacking modules and cables, put in two power supplies, each. Then you take two SFP ports on your Netgear GS748T and connect one of it to one of the E4800 and do link aggregation as well. So a more or less redundant core with load balancing and failover mechanism to your edge...

Well, of course. One DOA unit, some defective ports. But that´s not the problem. We build our new core in the lab and afterwards set it up at its final destination. Step by step we got it working. One hint: Inform your users about every step you do! Our core is now a solution with 4x 1Gbit/s with LACP. We started ~ 2 years ago with the upgrade, so when SFP+ was actually more expensive than nowadays. But 4 Gbit/s will easily enough for us within the next 5-8 years. One topic is hardware performance. The other one is software features. Do we actually need OSPFv3 + PIM-SMv6 now? Well, not really. But it is actually working nowadays. Do not trust any "We are ready for feature XYZ" campaigns some manufacturers will tell you. Well, pricing was very important to us: stackable versus modular switches. HP is not the only one charging for warranty for its modular ones, but has lifetime warranty on its stackable devices. Buy additional switches, stacking modules+cables, power supplies for replacing defective one yourself keeps your budget friendly. No need for an additional hardware support contract. And this is what´s important for your bosses. Stacking? Of course, but with cheap CX4 modules and cables(at least in those days) Talking about the A5800 series. I think it was 8 or 9 units you can stack, so you can cat at least 24x8 SFP ports. For software upgrades HP wants money for many products, but maintenance releases are aslo free for some of them: http://h17007.www1.hp.com/docs/support/warranty/HPNetworkingProductWarrantySummary.pdf We currently do not have any software upgrade contract. Our switches are currently running a firmware release from (was it october) 2011. I´d suggest you to get two demo units for building a stack and playing around. Depending on your budget, you will get those. Try to get those from all of your other preferred manufacturers. There´s more than Cisco or HP. Compare them. Take your time.

Yes, we actually went from a multivendor (with many Cisco core switches) setup to a HP/H3C based hardware solution. We took stackable switches instead of modular ones, as lifetime hardware warranty is simply nice. Although HP wants money for its professional A-series of switches. Keeping additional switches ourselves for replacement is simply cheaper for us. What performance, ports, features do you need? What requirements to you have? Take a look at the A5800 switch series: SFP+, dual power, MPLS, VPLS, OSPF, ISIS, BGP... Basically many features, the bigger 10500/12500 also have.
