From what I've seen of them, these comments have no legitimacy.

I love working at my school (private). I honestly think it has more to do with the people you work with rather than whether its public or private. Having said that I would acknowledge that staff are often easier to work with at a private school, mainly as its not such a hard slog and the staff are paid more appropriately. This is just my opinion, and I would understand if others have a different point of view, as it really comes back to the staff you work with!

Yes. you need to have your licenses recorded somehow. We presently have recorded them in the Library catalouge. We have just started to transfer these details to ZENWorks Asset Manager (We are a Novell environment). I agree, it is a lot easier to purchase site licenses, but it is unlikely that you will have this from a starting platform, so it is even more important to a) find out what licenses you have and b) ensure you are abiding by these licenses. You don't want to be on the wrong side of a license agreement. As for laptops. It depends upon if the software installed on them is owned by the school. If so, then yes, you will need to check this as well. Have fun!

We have actually banned all image searches using google. From my experience, it is to hard to guarantee that you can stop all inappropriate images coming through. The school feels it better to ban these types of searches and instead to allow searchs of more appropriate image galleries. Whilst we cannot stop all images coming through, we have made a concerted effort to help prevent it, which is important to show parents. This in conjunction with keyword filters, using squidguard always helps.

Perhaps you can use VM's? Something like VMwares ACE might be worth while. That way you can have your PC with your network settings..Secure as you want, and the student can do what they like on their own laptop..... We may be going down this path in the future....

Looks good. My only concern with something so small is battery running time....... I like the trackpad features as well...how long before MS offer it under new names ?

We have used IBM (now Lenovo) PCs in the past. We have now alos swapped to the Dell range getting in the 745 as well. They seem to work very well, and we couldn't say no to them with the specs they offer, and value for the dollar spent. I suppose however if it was coming from a no name supplier, we probably wouldn't do it. but the name is well known and our staff laptops are Dell. and they have all been working fine for the past two years now...the on site service works well also. I'd probably swap to Dell if I was you.

Why don't you try another OS that loads from CD. That way you can see if its hardware or software related. If its hardware, you'd imagine you'd have the same problem. You can use Ubuntu 7.10 to do this task. Download it on a CD and burn the iso. Then boot from the CD. it will not install anything, and it might be another way of trying to solve the problem, (To install the OS, you will see an option on the desktop when it appears on screen. You hould be able to use it to browse the internet etc.... Just a suggestion.

You mean to say you haven't disabled the messenger service on all your computers already. Also, even i realise how annoying those messages are , so you've got no complaints if people phone up to hassle you. Hehehe.... No, no no.... We have a Novell Network and as administrators we can use the Novell client to broadcast a message to all computers. The messenger service is disabled.

I work in Australia, but I would hope they offer similar schemes where you are.... We have training organisations around (I used Excom education) where the student pays to do coursework and then IT organisations (such as yourself) go to them and inform them of the type of person you are looking for. They then forward some of their people to you. I know about this as I went through the process. At the time, it was free for any organisation to get an employee this way, and I imagine it still is. I would highly recommend you see if there are any training organisations such as these in your area.

I suspect a;ll this "hoo haa" over the pens is due to cost. We have not had anyone loose a pen yet and we've had these boards three terms. This may be due to the fact that they are presently used by the junior school. Next year we are placing them into the middle school as well. Time will tell. (Besides..each board has an extra pen...which means we have 10 extra pens at the moment.

Yes..I agree 100%! We have ten Promethean boards in our junior school, and if we didn't have these silly pens the students would be having their arm on the board and the cursor would go all over the place...hmmmm Ahhh.. Silly me.. It was a good idea after all to have the pens... Doh!

If your idea is to try and wire the bare able to an RCA plug it wont work. The signal coming from the RCA isn't strong enough to power a passive sub. Yes. This is correct.

Hi, I work in Australia, and since the swap over in Name from IBM to Lenovo, I have noticed the quality of service degrade. We are about to replace 20% of our workstations with Dell PCs. We now have a foot in each area, so we will see. I suspect however, Lenovo are coming into some harder times, with more competition being offered to the consumer.

The Amp uses an RCA plug as it requires your Sub to contain its own amplifier, So you really need an active Sub (One with an Amp built into it - that means it has a power cable and runs off your mains power supply) rather than a passive sub (One like yours...with no amp in it,and no power supply). With an active sub, you would use the Audio out (Sub woofer) port. (In my opinion...the Active Subs do a far better job than the passive ones anyway...)

Ahh... You use USB... We use one of the com ports. for our setup..It proved to be much more reliable... (For us anyway..Long data traveling length) Try connecting it this way (If you have a com port). I bet you have a lot less problems with it.
