Paxton readers inside and outside the classroom...
Boredguy replied to rad's topic in Physical Security
Ah but what if the link between ACU and net2 server was disrupted due to a fire, how will the maglocks know to open. This is why our ACU's are also connected via relay to the fire alarm panel. You should not rely on the server to be available in an instance like this. -
You mean they *can* run linux. As for everything being web based, yea maybe in a few more years.

I think you should just be able to move the folder to another server and update the shortcut.. at least that's all I ever had to do when we ran it locally

I use Set-MsolUserPrincipalName -UserPrincipalName [email protected] -NewUserPrincipalName [email protected] and make sure that the user has a e-mail alias of their old account name for a few months as well.

Strange, our Dell OptiPlex 790's we got from you the other year send audio via the display port, and they are only 3rd gen. Same with the HP 8200's we have. We're using bog standard DisplayPort to HDMI to connect the base unit to ActivPanels.

For some of the services, it speeds up account creation, assignment to correct year/resources and such like. Updating all of different services via CTF or CSV every time 1 student changed class/teacher or even started/left could mean a lot more work that a correctly configured middle ware platform that can handle it all securely in the background.

[sims] Urgent Capita SIMS Data Issue - Issued by childrens services
Boredguy replied to vikpaw's topic in MIS Systems
We had an e-mail from our support team last Monday. It was relating to importing CTF preadmissions since last September and before this summer update was applied. For us it's not an issue as our admin team do not import the contact addresses when doing the preadmissions -
Office 365 Pro Plus for Faculty - Access to emails etc
Boredguy replied to JScott's topic in Cloud Services
You could request that staff sign out of the Office account if it's on a shared computer. Just means they would have to sign in each time they wanted to use it so it reactivates -
You might want to look into merging the tenancys, but otherwise in 365 you can not restrict which accounts can have the password reset by a valid admin account if I remember correctly.

Couple of questions about migrating from Gapps to Office 365
Boredguy replied to abillybob's topic in Cloud Services
Setting up 365 does not stop Gapps as your just using a text file to show 365 you have access to the domain records. Until you update the MX record in DNS your systems would work side by side. You would be able to e-mail out on your 365 account straight away, but replies would return to your gapps account if sent to an external address, so once you migrated accounts over users would have to know that some messages might be delayed 24 hours, so best scheduled for a Friday evening in your business environment. -
What you lock down depends on how restricted you want to be. We've always gone with the process of looking at what we had configured for a previous OS and replicating it for the one we want to move to, and test, test and test some more.

So far the replies have been more about staff/student timetables than the School Diary that the OP requested.

[sims] Any way to import work email address to existing staff users?
Boredguy replied to Janx1975's topic in MIS Systems
Must admit, I manually added all our staff e-mail accounts into SIMS. Took a lot less time than doing the Y7's each year -
We have a Powershell script that checks each morning the last changed date of the staff accounts password in AD, and if it's due to expire either during a holiday, or within X days it e-mails them to remind them to change it.

depends on the bus.

For the GPO it's in Microsoft PowerPoint 2016/PowerPoint Options/Advanced Do not allow PowerPoint to automatically extend display when presenting on a laptop or tablet We set it and use the reg frag to try and prevent the main screen being turned off when the teacher presses ESC when they have a power point on the ActivPanel

Also you need to remember that pavements (without drop kerbs) are not always designed to have the weight of a parked car on it. If the road has no double lines, good visibility and your not blocking someone's driveway then parking fully on the road is perfectly acceptable. Us fellow road users might call you names when we come across the car and a string of traffic, but that's normal (and extremely common in the village where we work)
-
It will soon be a fine able offence in our town to park on the pavements

Can confirm that after a reboot edge is as happy to run with that extra exclusion
-
@Mic_Impero looks like dllhost.exe works with a quick test, but will verify it tomorrow after it's had a full reboot.

Edge is perfectly fine when we disable the impero service on the station (which is a bit of a pain since we use the management functionality on a daily bases to resolve simple user issues) Thankfully it's on when you launch edge when you logon that it sits and doesn't respond, so it's not been the end of the world, but has delayed our deployed 1803 out to our other handful of stations as we do not really want to disable Edge.
