Problem with that is what do they use at home can't take the pc home with them. The point of one-to-one agendas is that they have access to computer resources both in and out of school. I have got an unpublished article that I wrote while back may tidy it up and publish it. Gist of it is that pupil computer schemes be that Computer for pupils or the usa one-to-one agenda are just not viable in the long term heck the laptop for teacher programme in uk proved that buy everybody a computer what do you you do 3/4 years down line where does replacement come from. So next thing we have to do it looking at secure and safe way of doing it. But then another arugment to all this is we can never do it complete secure way and inexpensive way. So we then have to look at the bigger picture of digital literacy. Russ

As said main thing if what ever we think we are all going to go that way. So we need to look at options and get commitment from slt to spend money to invest in it. So in terms think best option is vlaned wireless network for students with some kind of security layer that disables access unless it passes certain tests. But like most things this costs money. Another idea can't take credit is advance version of barnaby bear (a stuff toy that goes with children on holiday so they can report back about where been) So instead of a book Barnabygoes high tech and gets a blog. This could work well with very young children where don't want images and names (even first names only). Also could be used as way to communicate at home Barnaby learned in school today the all about shapes and if teacher uses IWB then could save slides and put them up as well. Again teacher could login into blog and then student writes the blog post etc with guidance from the teacher. Plenty of scope on that one. As far as aware all answer are right. Also email you new school and get them to add you to one of the tech semnairs next month. RM Technical Seminars They are good to attend get to know other rm schools in your area get to question rm staff etc. They are free to school if they have a support contract. How about this. Get a group of year 5's (not year 6) do something with the reception children coming in September. Maybe video about the school introducing their teacher /LSA etc. Then either have video on dvd or a website and let parents (and local nursery groups) of the children coming into school about it. I would combine this with getting the year 5s to introduce them themselves and help out when new ones comes in august etc Reason say not year 6 as the year 5s they then become mentor almost when they move up to year 6 for new ones new to the school.
