  1. Network browse would need to be turned on from the same pc that is running the MSI deploy Tool. Russell
  2. Hello Impero Deploy wizard picks up list of machines using same methord as going to entire network so thing that stops them appearing is usually either network is vlan'd or turn of network browse discovery.. Russell
  3. I can only talk from Impero side but we have found that power management side ROI has paid for Impero on customers sites of course it depends on a customer setup as to how long that ROI but being all professionals I assumed that was obvious.. My main point is TCO is something you have to think about. To be honest car analogy is perfect yes could be Ford but then I buy Halfords Sat NAV oh but then the steering lock oh but get that free with Mercedes. Then want a upgrade to my radio as the 1980's tape deck would look out of place in a new car but r Mercedes offer a new Radio and CD player. You get the idea.. To take it back to software yes could get a password reset tool but how does that integrate with rest of the system can I give access to certain staff and not others ok lets say I can. That another set of rights to manage another system etc. As said depends on your view of network and if have a holistic approach etc. As I have said try both or choose what is best for your site (which you did so fine but as pointed out your view is based on your site which is PFI is very different to a lot of schools). Think this discussion best left here as this something different that OP asked which was for cons of AB Tutor something which while I could give out would be inappropriate for me as I work for Impero.
  4. As pointed out Impero is more than just classroom management. In terms of TCO Impero is cheaper if think about start installing on a number of teacher PCs not just a single one. However more importantly with power save elements of Impero means ROI Impero will pay for itselfs self. It also depends on how you look at the system you look at the holestic approach that Impero takes and what is a benefit to every user of Impero or you look at single teacher view of ICT system and pay more in the long run. Also depends what you want you comparing Impero with other software that has a limited use/view is like comparing a Ford and Mercedes At end of day Impero view is you have choice you can get trial of both software compare us against each other and you can decide if want a ford or a Mercedes Russell
  5. Hi Just out interest wondering what peoples time frames and plans are over deploying Windows 8? Russ
  6. Games for two players J (6 in Jan) loves lego series but at moment Lego Batman 2 is the craze.. Russell
  7. As said remove clients by using clean up wizard or right clicking in entire network and choosing remove from group. If reimage do not worry Impero will sort itself out etc over the naming sode. Russ
  8. Here is paste from part of a document created a while go to help support guys diagnose these issues as said number 5 is most common cause of WOL issues. 1. Make sure that WOL is enabled in the BIOS 2. Check that ACPI enabled in the BIOS. Please note that Microsoft® Windows® XP should be installed on systems with ACPI enabled in the BIOS. Systems which do not support ACPI or are set to APM in the BIOS may not work correctly. If your system is set to APM, you must change this to ACPI and rebuild the workstation - you cannot simply change the setting without re-installing Windows. 3. Make sure that the computer is powered in some way for example turned off but plugged into the mains supply. 4. Check to see if the system is alive even when powered off by checking that both the network card and the hub/router link light are flashing. 5. Check the drivers of network card are the latest manufactures network drivers and not the default ones from the operating system. Check that within Windows that the network adapter has been configured to allow WOL. Check in Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - (select network adaptor) - Properties - Advanced. 6. Some computers must be powered up before they will respond and they have to be correctly shutdown in a controlled manner. For example if you disconnect the mains supply, you must reconnect the mains supply and power up the system at least once. Russell
  9. Your are sort of right and not as well and is a common misconception even by me until I started working at Impero. Drivers play a massive part in this (based on diagnosing WOL issues for past 12 months). The reason is that WOL on pure function is hardware however the invention on power management functions on a network card that interact at hardware level plus some driver updates also do firmware updates as well if running default drivers that come installed with OS you are going to run into issues with WOL this more case with Windows 7 than Win Xp. If it is number one cause of WOL not working on calls to the Impero helpdesk. Russell
  10. First thing to check is are using default windows 7 network card drivers if so then goto manufacturer website and install latest as when it comes to WOL that is number one factor. Russell
  11. Hi As you said the best thing is raise a support ticket it maybe something to do with .net framework get a ticket raised and I am sure we can get it resolved. Russell
  12. How does Impero unlock the screen on Windows Vista and above its all in the secret sauce Honestly I am not sure exact method but we do not replace files on system like in the OP what I can tell you functions we use to do it don't exist in XP hence why that Impero function will not work on XP clients. Russell
  13. Impero would work without the network cable as it will still continue to block even if no network cable it just will not get any updated policies etc. However any setup before the cable was pulled would continue to work. Russell
  14. Yes we had the mini tornado over here at Impero Towers. The photo is taken about 5 mins walk away from the offices.. . Russ
  15. As said choose File and Open
  16. Yes backup routine backups all the files in data folder but not the log folder. So yes you can just restore that and will put all your settings back if the log folder is present it will not overwrite it etc just files in root of the data folder. Russell
  17. This is certainly something we have put forward internally as feature request so our developers are aware of it.. Russell
  18. We do not automatically send out the update for the main reason is people complained we we use to just send you latest version. That is the reason we do mass email as it gives link which can click that will upgrade your account for you. Russ
  19. Hello 3114 was released while ago and then about two months later 3116 was released. When we go into general release everyone who is has valid for the upgrade gets an email. A few weeks before we do mass email out we do slow roll out for people who phoned support wanting it, new installs plus if someone is having an issue which is fixed in latest version. As of today that is where we are at the mass email will go out in next week or so. If want latest version then raise a support ticket and we can sort that out. As for what you entitled to basically if in support get latest release else if not in support then you get latest release in your minor version. That means... 3.0.X = latest release is 3.0.59 (I think will have to check that) 3.1.X = 3.1.16 3.5.x = 3.5.02 Remember through if in support then get latest and greatest which is 3.5.02.. As for changes the changelog is being generated tomorrow (I think). Anyway hopefully that makes sense.. Russ
  20. Wow where do I start i broken this into sections for easy reading....... Pinch of Salt Time I think my undercover supplier alert is going off at moment an account opened in 2010 has 14 posts all about ranger and in last 12 months been used twice and last time it was used was January. This raises questions of either you work for Ranger/RM or a Ranger/RM partner school and either way if you do need to declare this to everyone. Obviously only mods/admins will be able to tell for sure... Size Of Impero First company house records just say how long you have been a company the product has been developed for 10 years as the directors Lee & Jon worked in a school were this software came about. Currently on Impero 3 (so had two incarnations of the software and arguable Impero have done more in last 2 years in terms of moving the product forward then any of our competitors). Impero is a main stream supplier we on daily bases take people move away from likes of Ranger, RM, Netsupport (in fact had a well-known Academy who were a 'netsupport' school moved over to Impero last week). Several high profile local authorities have moved to Impero and several high profile contracts currently being worked. Development You talk about roadmap seriously you can argue that as a product Ranger is still same product it was back when RM brought it even now that Ranger is part RM software Division RM they haven't done much with it. You look at power management is a big area for schools and cost saving is part of Impero but lot of our competitors do not have power management. Better questions to ask are how much development has been done to a product what new features have you added in last 12 months and does it work on platforms our customers want (Windows 7 which some of our competitors are still having issues with). Customers However I like to let Impero customers speak for themselves on here which they have done time and time again. Same as I let Ranger, netsupport, cc3, cc4 , ab tutor customers etc etc speak on how a product performs (and again they do)..
  21. Thanks for kind comments on Impero as always as always a pleasure to serve you... Russell
  22. Have you had an upgrade to AQA recently?
  23. I will check with developers and feed back to Donovan (support guy who took your call). I know we edit this file on start up of the Impero client service due to limitations of .net but not sure why need to found out I was told once but knowledge escapes me... Russell
  24. Not heard anyone having issues however what can do is on the server add an injection exclusion entry for the software and that should solve your issue in short term. Russell
  25. The thing about interviews is 10% is to do with experience. They already know about that as they read your CV they are just making sure you didn't lie on it. The rest is about if you fit into the company and how you work and adapt... Russell
