Other half rang them yesterday as wifi is faulty (on original super hub here) they have upgraded us now to 200mb and thrown in the new super hub, for less than it was advertised on website, so phone and bb will be a little over £40 pcm now We are slowly transitioning to streaming/fta programming too thanks to the awesome Amazon Fire stick

I don't know about BT, but my VM has been woeful of late, I think I am going to bin them in Feb when its up for renewal, the WiFi has become woeful, regardless of the channel I select on this Turkey cable modem they supply (lucky to have FTTC with the cab 100 feet away from my house here).

To be honest there were lots of options available to me on there too, as school IT means your a bit of a specialist on lots of fields and products, I went for Infrastructure Support though, based on its the field I am aiming for with hardware and networking (I already admin a nice sized campus and a few specialised platforms with our mobile devices and virtualisation and I am slowly going towards my Cisco CCENT)

I do think qualifications play a part, as I am learning no end of stuff going for my CCENT at the moment, I think at the end of the day though, its the application of knowledge that it all falls down with once you have learnt it. I knew nothing about configuring cisco switches a few months back, now I would happily plug in and make changes as needed, despite it being fairly complicated and CLI based for the majority. I too wish that I had not wasted my time when I was younger and actually went for a degree in IT (computer networks wasn't an option when I was at Uni the first time around) either that or I would have just gone straight for IT Certifications, but hindsight is wonderful there.

I was about to make a post about this as I have completed it and I am now a RITTech and also an AMBCS apparently, I urge anyone else working as a technician to do so for the certification and accreditation, especially as it comes with a years free associate membership of BCS (£84) and also at the moment their waiving the £45 registration fee for the accreditation. It takes about 30 minutes to fill out a simple questionnaire and three small paragraphs and you just have to wait on a supporter(thanks to @garethedmondson there) to ok the work and then the BCS to sign it off Register for IT Technicians | Business solutions | BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT Link is there

does your phone system have the emergency page system built into it like ours does ? on our toshiba system, you can dial a code (wont put it up here for obvious reasons) and it will then do a speaker announcement over all handsets. obviously this relies on telephones being present in classrooms as I pointed out here and the obvious issues where telephones are stored in cupboard or offices and people being in a gymnasium/sports field. From looking at it here, there is no perfect system.

I struggle to understand why they felt it was the right path to punish their entire user base against a small percentage of them probably behaving OTT, that being said, advertising it as unlimited was always going to ask for trouble, though capping it at 1TB isn't exactly tiny but I can understand some people average a lot more that that, outside of upping their dvd ripped movie collection to the web as this one guy supposedly has done.

Our LEA installed Aerohive wifi under the lidw grant this year, it replaced the Aruba gear we had which was very expensive when we purchased it initially. Aerohive stuff is pretty flawless and works well, covered our site with 39 APs

From what I am seeing private seems to offer above and beyond public these days, though it is a difference to job security and holiday perks, lots of private jobs advertise things like private healthcare/share incentives/pensions/certifications and training and other perks.

Hello All, I am after some recommendations / suppliers who offer pricing on IP Based CCTV cameras (PoE based ideally as we have a switch here already for them and it saves running cables for power), all our usual suppliers don't seem to offer this which I can understand. The camera has to be compatible with Milestone Express Go CCTV system to add them in - we have had quote so far for trendnet devices, but they have not been compatible with Express Go from what I am reading and ideally I just want a solution that just works with minimal fuss or faffing around. 4 of them are needed and they will be mounted internally within the site, the images do not have to be super HD or anything daft and we do not want them to have PTZ either as they will be fixed in place covering their specific areas. The perils of unlimited storage advertising, I have 40gb on my personal onedrive because of some legacy stuff I signed up for. my MS account has gone off a couple of times because my parents camera PVR dumps off images on motion detection to it via email which needed to be cleared out. I laughed though when I read that some user had uploaded 77TB of data to their onedrive account on there, their going to have some more fun getting that data down from there.

Specialising is good if your in a large organisation and make sure its something that is of interest as already pointed out (I am moving slowly away from Wintel and towards Networking here, though a school can really expect you to be quite general in your knowledge I find where you will cover lots of technologies, desktops, servers and networks tend to be the base of skills you need in all education IT I find and you can then build accordingly.

My 2 yo son has decided now its funny to climb up on the settee nearest the TV and occasionally whack the screen or push the display, despite telling him off repeatedly about it (I think he assumes its some sort of giant iPad at this point) Told my other half I may be buying a nice 50+" 4K "Family" present if he keeps that up.

The landlord with us has a love of extractor fans in the bathrooms, I think they are another waste of time over proper ventilation, the wife and I tend to have the bathroom window open for a large portion of the day here to combat condensation after the shower. From my understanding of building these days, Cavity Wall insulation seems to be a massive issue with damp speaking with one of our landlords building service managers as it keeps the moisture in the cavities and everything in there "Sweats", same for the lack of airing and ventilation and flues in properties as they tend to get covered over and removed nowadays.

Predominantly Epsons here with S3/4, EB-X and X5e range, save for 1 Hitachi, 1 NEC and 1 Promethean, would recommend them, especially on the later EB ranges, they have decent images and now a much improved lifespan with the bulbs (ECO is excellent on the EB ranges)

It really depends how often you use your device I believe, we have a condensing dryer and its housed in our shed in this house to my relief, if they are used a lot (couple of times a day or more) I think it can cause problems with the condensation causing mould issues we have found in our last two properties - issues with houses and an ex-neighbour previously meant that it had to be used a lot by us and caused issues with mould and damp I believe in the kitchen where it was housed in both the homes. I said to my wife I would never have another condensing dryer after this one I would prefer vented every time, though that is a personal preference all the same.

I noticed a mass of long and unstoppable ads on there these days without the 5 seconds skip feature :/ Can't help but feel that will become the norm now for non-payment.

Barnes was equally bad for both sides today I felt, not going to the TMO near the end was awful for the Argentinians with the forward pass for the last try, equally surprised that he ignored the Argentinian blatantly pulling the ball back into a tackle after placing it. I have a feeling NZ will edge next weeks final, though its probably a little too close to call right now, both have had their good and bad performances and still got the wins. I agree I think Argentina may edge SA next week too, their a slower side than Aus/NZ and play for the power game.
