As JB2048 says there are a few sites dealing with this. I tend to find it's usually a missing dll. Go into c:\facility\facilitydataserver (or there abours) and copy the dll's in there into c:\windows\system32. If it asks you to overwirte, click no. Try again. Mic@Serco

I can't comment as of 4 years ago, because i've been at Serco for 3. I know it is sometimes advisable to do that, but only when schools absolutely demand that they want to force settings upon people. I can give you a list of reasons not to share them now, such as, the cdb file stored the active dataset - so if you share cdb with your timetabler and they save the file in the new dataset, next time you login you're in the wrong dataset - people don't always notice, etc etc. The backup location / restore location is stored in here also. All the column definitions (hide / visible, orders, etc) are stored in ini files in the startin location. If you're sharing these people will have to configure this every time they use it, etc. Standard installs these days, and atleast for the last 3 years are one install on the server, a shortcut to every user, every user has their own client files. Usually in their home folder on the network, for ease of use.

The recently openned files list on the file menu is stored in c:\windows\cmisadmin.ini. If the user cannot read or write to that file it wont be populated. You can edit that file in notepad if you wish to change it. To force it to open a cdb (connection to database) file directly, you need to place a space in the target and then the location of the cdb, e.g. \\server1\Facilityadmin\admin.exe h:\clientfiles\cmislive.cdb The startin path should always point at the users client files and the client files should be user specific, not shared. I am not a SIMS person, but Login reason 0 in SQL is a login failure, bad loginID, password, or SQL might be set to only use windows authentication not SQL, or there might be a SQL login with a weak password, and 'enforce password policy' checked, and now the windows password gp has been turned on or strengthened? I don't know whether SIMS uses Windows Authentication or SQL, or how it connects, etc, etc, but if the printers don't work, try checking out the logins. It might even be that it can't see the SQL server. Please don't waste too much time on my suggestions though i have no basis to offer advice on this one!

Could also be a lambda sensor or an idle sensor, depending how much engine management there is involved on it.

Lets go back to basics, it's either no fuel, or soft leccy. Check for fuel leaks as advised. I doubt it's that though really. Check things like plugs and leads, does it sound like it's misfiring? Something could of been knocked if they were checking under the bonnet for corrosion, around the subframe mounts for example, arms end up all over the place at some garages. Also, find out if any tuning was done. On MOT, they test Co2 and Hydrocarbon, if these were too high they might of adjusted the mixture (if possible on that car, i dont know) and it might now simply be running too weak.

Hi, I do not actually know the pricing myself, but John is correct about the structure. However, ePortal is included in the package. The basic package (last time i checked) is Facility, ePortal, Scheduler, Document Storage. There are extras which follow: SMS (ability to text from Facility based on attendance, assessments, school closure, etc) PDA (license for PDA access) Admin View (an extra view for people with higher privilleges such as ICT staff, Attendance officers, etc - this might be part of the standard package now) Room booking - this allows physical resources to be booked out through ePortal Finance (exchequer) - similar to other finance packages out there such as Sage Skillspace, our learning platform (hosted off site) Alfie, modular student assessment package (hosted off site) among many others. Hi, It sounds to me like you've got the same contact in there several times? Otherwise, what is the object type of the report? Sounds like you've got the object type set as student and you need it set to contact. If the object type is of student you'll get one report per student, or depending how you've set it up, one per student, per contact. If the type is of contact, providing the contact is only existing in the database once, it will only give you one page per contact. It is very common that a contact will exist in a database multiple times. Each contact has a unique ID which isn't on the student window. So if you enter a contact for a student and then enter the contact for their sister, for example, you'll have created two. The correct way to do this is to create a contact once, then in the student window on the contacts tab, click select, and choose the contact from the list. N.B - if it's a sibling or relative in a new years intake, check the form you've just recieved from the parent is the same as the details on the system - the form might contain newer information. Forgive me if you're already doing all this. If you don't know the object type of the report, you can either tell by looking at the reporting tree, or go to reports, reports, click advanced, view all reports, and then sort it by name, find the report and you will be able to view the object type. If you give me that information and attach the report you're using, i'll make one that works and attach one in return (if i can!). All the best Mic @ Serco

Hi John, In response to your post about keeping an eye on the forum in the MIS section, there are a few of us that keep an eye on the MIS section (and others) of Edugeek, especially for questions relating to Facility, ePortal, etc, but general questions also regarding SQL, Windows, etc. You probably wont find much activity during the day as supporting the support cases here as a seperate route into support would bypass queues and make monitoring cases difficult. But we do (i certainly do) help wherever possible in our free time, usually on an evening. The best way to get help with the MIS always will be by calling the support desk or logging a call on firstline, but as you said, quirky little unimportant issues, or for straw polls, general advice, etc, i'm around when i can help, as are several others. May i also thank you for your fairness in explaining the outcomes and updates on this forum rather than just logging the initial issue in frustration. Yep. The keys will work with any media. It's the other way around. How it works is the discs sent with the machines only work if you install on the model intended for. They use the SLIC key in the bios to check it. So you can for example install a dell disc on a sony, but you'd need a bios emulator to make the slic key match. This is ilegal. If you can find an MCE disc, you should be good to go with the serial on the bottom of the machine. As long as you're using that serial it isn't ilegal. Sharing media is ilegal regardless of how or why you copied it. The media can be purchased seperately from MS though i've never tried it. The only way you're aloud to copy a disc is if it's a backup copy for yourself. But, mr MS isn't going to be bothered where you got your disc from as long as you're using a kosha license. Much bigger fish to fry. And morally, there's nothing wrong with getting a disc from somewhere (IMO).

Whether the application is installed locally or on the server is irrelevant. Think of it in this sense - if that was the case you wouldn't need any licensing to run it with web based applications such as ePortal. Each user connected to ePortal needs their own CAL as it is classed as 'multiplexing' software (not 5 CALS, as the dataserver creates 5 connections to the db by default). If you go with processor licensing it's expandable to an unlimited amount, and yes for 2 quad cores you'd need 2 proc licenses. Everything said by DMcCoy and Diello. If you would like to discuss it further PM me and i'll send you my mobile number. I'd also be interested to know who you spoke to at Ramesys so i can give them a ring and discuss it - the less people get the wrong information with regards to SQL Licensing when running Facility / ePortal the better. Of course, as Serco do not resell SQL and can only advise on licensing, it would not be Serco's responsibility to adhere to the licensing rules - but i'd still rather people got the correct information. If you're willing to give me the name of the person at Ramesys and maybe a phone number, please PM me it rather than posting it public. As Diello said, think about expantion and strongly consider proc licensing. Please also note that getting an educational license is about half the cost of a commercial license so make sure you're getting the right one. Though Ramesys should by default sell you this. Hi, yes, you need a client license for every user simultaneously accessing it. That includes ePortal users. e.g ten office staff with only 8 accessing it simultaneously, and 100 teaching staff, with 70 accessing it simultaneously would need 78 licenses. Don't forget aobut students and contacts. As an alternative you could purchase a processor license, which goes on physical processors, not cores. I.E. 1 quad core processor = 1 SQL license, 2x dual core processors, 2 x processor licenses. Hope this helps. Mic in tech @ serco

Sounds to me like in the connection from the client, you've used Windows Authentication rather than SQL authentication. Create a new connection, make sure you use SQL Authentication. Mic @ Serco

So did it work? I've come across similar problems but usually bolts stuck in engine blocks. Different to tiny screws being an issue, but i have always drilled it out and retapped it or welded a nut onto the end of it and wound it out like that. Can't really do either with a screw because you cant weld a nut to the end of it, and you cant really drill it, because, as has been said the new hole when tapped will be slightly bigger and the aerial wont fit. (the bolt is part of the aerial so you can't just make it bigger). Hope you get it fixeD!
