Ok, i get what you're saying. Banjo - i think they've already done that. Theyre talking about the student results bitlet for contacts which is different to the results entry screens, and is controlled differently. Now i understand what you are saying, i wouldn't think it is possible. I made the same mistake as Banjo and thought you were on the entry screens. Hi all, Cheers for the input James and Banjo. Can i confirm - you're looking at, for example - On target might be yellow, 1 point above is lime green, 2 points above is dark green. But you dont want it to go pink until 2 points below and red 4 points below? Or are you wanting to make the number of points dynamic and relational to something else? If it's the former, i believe it is possible but i would need to confirm it and understand what you're really trying to do. Regards Mic @ Serco

Hi Martin, Thanks for the post. This should always of been the case as far as i know, i know i've come across this as many as 4 years ago. Another way of resolving it is c: cd facility\eportal\webapps\eportal\images\stuphotos rename *.jpg *.JPG or the other way around as appropriate. Also, you've got one too many eportal's in your path - please check that's a typo on here and your install isn't actually like that or you'll have problems. It's always good to see people being proactive in solving any problems. Also, it's worth me mentioning, it will use whatever you specify in settings .xml - if it's in there in upper case, it will use upper, in there in lower case, it will use lower. Regards Mic @ Serco

Hi Barry, Sorry, i hadn't noticed you were one of our Irish customers. I believe the Irish version of ePortal currently is only supported on IE - due to these issues with Firefox. You can check by contacting the Irish support desk. They will be able to confirm this. This was certainly the case last time i was over working in Dublin support, and although it has been several months since then, i don't think there has been a release, nor am i aware of any plans to change this. As i say, the support desk will be able to confirm this or otherwise. Please contact them at your convenience and have your school roll number to hand. Mic @ Serco

You're dam right it does then you have to weld a nut to it to wind it out. Or even worse, what i managed last week, bottomed a stud out and cracked the head. Had to do some interesting welding and retapping. But it's allll ok now. But i sat the ruddy cylinder head on its face and snapped the spade off the effin temp sender. So now i need a new one. Grrr. Glad you're getting somewhere Admiral. Try getting the same size stat which opens earlier, at a lower temperature, if it stays the same. Do these also have an electric fan? It should be cutting in about 92 if it does. Also, unleaded engines run most economically at about 85 - 90 so thats not such a bad temp. But be careful while it's running so hot, dont do the gasket. No worse than it constantly running cold though as the oil wont be getting up to temp in those circumstances.

Hi, No, it's not totally web based, the web application is 'ePortal' which John is referring to, and 'Admin' and its modules is the 'office' users' app. It is installed once on the server and a shortcut to it given to the users. So you just do the one install on the server and next time they click the shortcut it's calling the new version. I tend to set this up as a share with the correct permissions, this way when you come to do an upgrade, you can stop the web services, take the share off the program folder, and no one has access. Then when the upgrade is done, just start the services back up and pop the share back on. Mic @ Serco

What John said. I managed to get a lucky break when i was 16 and went from there. Hard work and enthusiasm has got me to where i am now. I don't have A levels, let alone a degree. I would like some MS qualifications though just to see if i'm missing anything. The only thing i would say to bear in mind is where you want to end up, rather than the job you want to go for now. I know for a fact that at some point, later on in life, i'll go for a job in a much higher position. The only difference between me and another candidate will be that i have 20 years experience. They have 15 and a degree. That first 5 years isnt going to make a difference as the industry is so changing and so the degree will be viewed at a higher value. That's the only thing i'm scared of. So if you're young, and you're enthusiastic enough and clever enough to go and get the job now, you still will be with your degree / quals. It depends how quickly you want to move into the job. I've taken to putting concentrate in, undiluted which seems to do the trick. Good for -15, i've not had it freeze over on impact yet. New wiper blades yesterday though and its an expensive way of doing it. Worth it though imo. Blue skies -1 here in Wakefield.

My grandma rocks. She's 72 now. When i wanna sell things on amazon or ebay, i give it to her. She's just got a new Nikon DSLR and photoshop. And this all started about 6 years ago when she ordered a new one and the company got the billing address and shipping address the wrong way around. She lived about 100 miles away from me then. I was going to build it (components ordered) and take it as i was due a visit anyway. By the time i'd got there, she'd built it, installed the O/S, antivirus, dial up, etc and there was nothing left for me to do! She talked to her sister, who is 3 years her junior on skype with the webcam all the time, she lives 150 miles away so that's grand. She now helps out locally with people with IT problems (a lot in the area are of the senior years) and escalates them to me when she can't resolve it! I'm so proud. She also helped me bleed the brakes on the mini and strip down the cylinder head. She rocks.

Hi, I'm posting from a Lenovo T500 and can confirm the optical drive is quick release. You can replace these with HDD caddys which work on the same basis. If the machine is always off when they eject it this is irrelevant but you dont have to release it using safe remove in windows, the quick release lever is active, so when you flick it, it 'ejects' it from windows. Then you just pull it out when the bubble says it's safe to do so. Turns out on looking it up these are quite expensive though. Oops. So maybe that's not the answer at all. My old t60 and t61, and i think the t43's had the same though so it depends on whether it has to be new too. What about as John says, an external drive? Is it just for data? If so, just buy an external drive and write a backup procedure?

That's not a bad idea. Obviously yout stat is stuck open so a solution is to put another stat in elswhere, between the engine and the inlet to the radiator (by the sounds you've been advised here to put it in the top hose which is fine). Of course if it were stuck shut you'd be rather screwed with that design! That's rubbish. I'm used to working on mini's. 3 bolts on the cylinder head (or nuts on studs) and it whips right out!

Sorry i think you've kind of got the wrong end of the stick - the exe should be run from the server. The cdb file (and most importantly the start in path in the shortcut) should be ran by each user not from a shared folder. This is because the cdb file stores user settings such as the last active dataset, the last location a backup was taken to, amongst others. In the folder in the startin path, Facility places an ini file. In this ini file other individual user settings such as window sizes, sort preferences, window positions (particularly important if using multiple monitors) etc etc. If you share these and someone opens the cdb changes the dataset to next year to start timetabling and saves it, you'll potentially have the rest of the staff logging in and working for a few days in next years dataset before someone realises. Absolute disaster when things like that happen and you essentially have to redo the work. There are lots of little issues like that which can be potentially catestrophic if you share the clientfiles. The exe file itself however can be run from one location by everyone. Hope that's cleared it up. And yes, that is what Serco recommend, and i'm without doubt the biggest advocate of it. But support will tell you exactly the same if you want to check it out (after all this is a forum i could be anyone - but i'm not lol). Mic

You're welcome Yeh you can do that no bother. It used to cause some issues with syncing to the ini files due to the content of them (the ini files used to store some of the items now stored in the database) but since we changed that many moons ago i've not heard of any problems. You're right in what you say, but it's safer to wrap both paths, although technically you only need to wrap them if they have a space in i believe, so Target: "\\servername\foldername\cmisadmin.exe" "z:\clientfiles\admin.cdb" Another thing worth me saying while i'm on one is that you may of noticed there is now (and has been for some time) an Admin.exe and a cmisadmin.exe file in the installed directory. There's often some confusion as to which to run and what's going on. So the story goes, it always was admin.exe. Some security softwares and network controlling softwares (there are quite a few) won't let anything names admin.exe run without exceptions putting in, and some of them are dead awkward, and it's something else for us to support. Therefore, we changed the name to cmisadmin.exe. But ofcourse we couldn't get rid of admin.exe as there were all of those many schools that would then need to update their shortcuts. So, admin.exe simply calls cmisadmin.exe. If you run either of the exe's and then look at the process name that's running, you'll see it is actually cmisadmin.exe which is running. So out of habit i always use cmisadmin.exe. But using either is fine (unless you've got that pesky security software). Mic

And whilst i was writing that... John came along. Rock on John. I'd go with John's advice, unless you're wanting to run on a spec not doable on a 32bit server, and you're doing it at your own risk. Furthermore, i set up Johns servers in terms of Facility and ePortal we ought to be talking some sense between us. John - we have done some testing in a 64bit environment which is where the speculation of 10.2 came about, but as yet we haven't done a full cycle. This is also true of 10.3 and therefore 10.3 remains the same in the spec. In fact, i think the new spec which i've just signed off is either on the site, or there abouts. There is now change to speak of. We've changed the formatting slightly and added a line about SQL 2008 R2 but otherwise it's the same.
