Just issued our head with new laptop, slight reluctance on their part. There's a couple of things that are causing stress (mine:rolleyes:). The main one being - We use OWA for email and the previous laptop was able to open attachments and then save if required, but with IE9 the options are open or save or save as, I've set IE9's command bar to stay open which gives the option to save when Open is selected, is there a more elegant way of acheiving this?

Just clearing out some laptops dating from 2002 to 2005, was going to send to recycling place (free) but questions have been asked about making money from them! I can't see that we'd make anything more than a few quid by selling parts, plus I'd have to store them somewhere whilst up for sale. Any thoughts?

Just taken delivery of some Probook 4535 Amd laptops. have discovered that when they're attached to our Epson-x3 projectors there's a definate flickering on the smartboard, not the laptop screen. If I have the display on the smartboard only it still flickers. They are fine with our Sanyo projectors. Should I be looking at a refresh rate or just cry?

Happy new year all! I've been asked to produce a website for a friend who sells soft furnishings, I've started to investigate free shopping cart software, plugins etc. The website itself will be no problem but I need to get my head round the security for paypal, visa etc. Any advice gratefully accepted.

Well the laptop that didn't want to know it's closest access point yesterday afternoon, connected itself like a dream this morning. Then lost it after lunch and had inexplicably changed it's settings from tkip to aes, changed it back to tkip, connected again.

Yes wireless and XP laptops bring me close to tears everyday! We currently have bog standard domestic access points but next term are having managed wireless installed, will my XP laptops that hate some access points but love the others at the far end of school work reliably with managed wireless? Or should I apply for that job at B and Q now?

Yes I would prefer a wired network connection - but we're an asbestos school so everything's a million times more difficult!
-
Yes we can have a wireless enabled copier but I'm wondering if it will cope with masses of printing.
-
Might be in the wrong forum - buts it urgent! We are finally getting a networked photocopier, but have no network sockets nearby, would a wireless connection be up to the job of loads and loads and loads of printing?

Yes we had the Intel equilalent the 620, but the 655 doesn't look as sturdy to me.

Right going for HP, but undecided between 655 or probooks. Anyone any experience of either?

5 year old projector going to need new bulb shortly, dilemma now do I buy bulb or new projector? It's an EMP-x3 if anyone's bought a replacement bulb recently, where did you get it from? I've found the cost varies between £300 (OEM) and £130 (compatible)

Thanks all - decided to do it properly and check with the installing company - even though it did make me sound neurotic. Probably having managed wireless setup shortly which will mean a few extra data points, will get the wall plates replaced as an extra item.

We usually buy a HP care pack 3 year pick up and return with accidental damage. proved very useful. Do toshiba and lenovo have a similiar warranty?

Not even end of budget time! been asked to price up 12 laptops for classrooms. Anyone bought any recently around the £350 warranty mark? I've looked at the lenovo thinkpad E530 and hp probook 4535 Any suggestions?

Quick electrical 'duffer' question! We have av wallplates for smartboard/projector connections in all classrooms, they have a vga connector, usb and audio ports. Some of the vga connectors are coming loose and I have shoved them back in! The caretaker refused to have anything to do with the wall plates as they are 'electrical'. Is there an electrical supply to these wall plates or are they just connectors?

Spent most of today trying to sort out problems on one of our office pcs. Three identical machines, same setup on it's own peer to peer network. One computer will randomly log it's user out of E1 and teachers2parents, every so often they get the internet error page - with the test your dns etc etc, but have other internet expolorer pages open and functional. At first I kind of dismissed it as a "I need a shiny new computer syndrome ", but have got more puzzled as the days have gone on. I've checked; event viewer - no network disconections other the one I forced by changing network sockets Ip config no different to two other computers IE settings identical network settings identical. Changed network socket Got office lady to try her E1 on spare laptop. Suggested she swop computers with other office lady for the morning - went down like lead balloon! Other than wipe her machine and start again - any ideas?

Thats basically what I did, only tbings running were the servers, at which point they could ping each other, then turned everything back on in small groups.

No sign of broadcast storms, they are bog standard unmanaged switches.

Everything gone smoothly for first two days back, then mid morning today network seems to go down. I was installing software on a laptop from the domain server software drive when I lost network connection, went to check the server, it was still up and I could log on, internet access still available but I couldn't ping the wsus server or access any of the computers on the network. The wsus server was still up but couldn't ping the domain server. Suspecting a loopback I walked round school, couldn't see anything, no computers in school had access to either of the servers. Rebooting the servers didn't make any difference, so I went back round school turning off access points, laptops and computers (very unpopular at this point), then unplugged patch cables from the switches of the computers that weren't turned on yesterday (if that makes sense). At which point the two servers could ping each other. I then turned everything back on indivdually and replaced each patch cable in the switches, all is now ok but I'm non the wiser why the whole network failed. Any ideas what I should be looking for to check it doesn't happen again.

They are for use in classrooms, research, numeracy flash type software and word, joined to the domain. Am wondering if laptops 15.6" are going to be to most suitable, but has anyone bought any netbooks for similar use?
-
Thanks, just wondering though are laptops 'old hat' should we be looking at i pads or similar?

Been asked to price up eight laptops for a trolley, anyone bought any good sturdy laptops recently, approx £400 including 3 yr warranty?

Sounds lovely! Mine's an HP 350 g6, new last year. I was slightly perturbed the first time it started, it sounded like a jet engine starting up! Was it easy or traumatic to set up?
