  1. Had a couple of emails from a company called laptops for teachers offering to buy back old laptops and sell us new. Anyone used them?
  2. I think you're making it way too complicated for a primary school and possibly frightening the head into thinking that excess 'mucking' around with a system that works (in his eyes) won't work afterwards. Is the aim to have gp control over windows 7? I'd go for the RSAT option but would just install it on the first windows 7 machine you get.
  3. I have a simple batch file to x copy work from a 'backup' folder in my documents to an equilialent folder in the staff folders on the server. It can be set to run as a scheduled task but our staff run it at log on
  4. My problem still remains, laptop connects to network, but no internet access, not dns problems because I can ping google. If I go into advanced network settings and make one small change for example tkip to aes Internet access is then restored. Any ideas anyone before this drives me crazy.
  5. How old are the sanyos? I'm miffed mine are only 3 years old, strangely enough when I did the projector rounds today checking quality and lamp life none of the teachers had noticed the 'pinkness'.
  6. Got a school full of Sanyo PLC xw56 three year old projectors, max lamp hours 2100 on eco mode, most of them have pink 'sploges' which are very noticable on a white background, word or smart notebook. The filters have been cleaned every 4 weeks. Is it worth having the projectors serviced and deep cleansed, or struggle on for another year and replace the whole unit? Is there anything I can do myself?
  7. @Elsiegee well done! I've gone down a size by playing golf once or twice a week, salad at lunchtime with 'normal' food at other times.
  8. This happens on some of our laptops, logon, logon script runs, all drives available printers etc. Open up IE, page not available, if I take off the proxy settings I get the same error page but it takes longer to load. Put proxy settings back on IE loads instantly with page not available. I can ping Google. I've narrowed it down to certain access points but not sure what the problem is. If I plug a network cable in to the laptop that can't browse it solves the problem straightaway and the ability to browse stays even when I then take the cable out.
  9. Some of us are better at multi tasking than others!
  10. Reconfigured our old server (4 years old) as 'spare' DC and with copy of data written to every night, it's now telling me the array battery has failed and cache writing (I think) has been disabled. Now we really don't have any budget to spare, so will this server still function without the battery being replaced? The array info tells me that expansion, migration and something else I can't remember won't be functioning without the battery.
  11. Probably not married at all and maybe from another planet!:D What does that mean? Apologise, stop nagging/cajoling that's the basis of a happy marriage isn't it?
  12. Mr Chrbb after much cajoling (nagging) ventured into the garden yesterday to tidy it up before he disappears or the entire cricket season. After 2 minutes he reappeared with the news that whilst trimming the hedge he'd cut through the sky multiroom cable, is there a connector we can get to join it back up?
  13. I'm confused here, how can she be a subject co-ordinator as a member of support staff, don't you have to be a teacher to do that role. I thought teachers were paid additional T&L responsibilities points for that.
  14. Lol yes you're right if I can ping google it's not DNS - had a tough week! Got my mind set on DNS because IE shows res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm..." when it loads the page though. Not at school now til Monday but will try firewall settings. It's only affecting Toshiba laptops and only with certain wireless access points.
  15. Some of our laptops, whilst connecting OK to the wireless network cn access shares but not the Internet. It seems to be a DNS problem as I can ping google. If I plug a network cable in the problem disappears, any ideas what to look for? It doesn't affect all our laptops.
  16. Seeing as an excellent job was made of the logo creep creep is there any chance of another request? I'm after an aeroplane cartoon style, but not not silly, with a banner saying 'we love learning' - transparent. Is that possible?

    Laptop hinges

One of our Toshiba laptops, out of warranty, has developed really creaky hinges so much so it feels as though the whole things coming apart. Is there any lubricant that's suitable to use?
  18. I found that I could only deploy to W7 if I turned off the firewall, also I couldn't remote control them. Have you looked at PDQ deploy, a free program that will let you deploy to W7 so long as you have file sharing enabled in the firewall. I love purgos and am gutted it won't work with W7
  19. Usb external drive. I'm not in again 'til monday but intend to try with on access disabled. I've done a system state backup to a network shared folder which was ok. I've just downloaded server 2008r2 eval copy to put on a laptop at home, so will try to recreate the situation.
  20. Yes there are errors in event viewer, error 2155348012, sophos in 'on access' but not all the backups fail.
  21. This is driving me MAD! Using windows server backup and an external hard drive I have attempted 'backup once' backups. The backups are saved to one folder on the hard drive. I've tested big backups and small quick ones, every second or so backup fails with 'One of the backup files is corrupted'. One of the backups that failed was a large folder of photos, so I did a backup to test of a smaller amount, that worked but the next similar sized one didn't! I have an offsite backup running nightly but can't fit everything on it, so whilst this isn't my only backup option - it's bugging me now. The drive is OK as some of the backups succeed and can be restored from.

    T60 problem

Ubunto disk - boot using cd get data off. Then format hard drive and start again with it.
  23. Yes I've set it in the advanced pwer options. Sorry had a tough week!
  24. The online backup is part of our LEA package that the admin machines belong to. I have to use the server 2008 backup software and my 2 external drives that we already own as we have no money left at all! As my online backup is run every night, I'm only concerned with the curriculum backups as the admin is run nightly, I think I'm going to do a system state and data backup to compliment the online backup twice weekly with an x copy batch file to copy to the old server nightly. If I have a system state backup I can restore the server can't I?
  25. Plugged in the usb and the power options gave both battery and ac power options.
