I would have thought it was possible - probably through a telnet session. Having said that though I wouldn't be surprised if it was stuck on 1000... would make sense for a SAN! If you're local, I'm in North Surrey, you can drop by and borrow an old gig netgear switch...

Have you tried setting the switch port to 1000 full duplex? Maybe it's not negotiating a speed properly?

Is that an HP warranty? I know Acer do this sort of thing, wasn't aware that HP did...

I've got a Netapp FAS2020 - have only had it since I went virtual in July though! I use it as a NFS target for VMware and a CIFS area for file storage. - has it been reliable - Yes, absolutely. - has it met your requirements for performance and storage - Yes, more than happy - 13TB raw storage and performance is absolutely fine - was it good value on initial purchase Certainly seemed to be - I looked at Sun, HP, Dell and LeftHand alternatives and the Netapp seemed to offer better vfm - has support been good if \ when required - Yes - only had one minor query, but was resolved within a couple of hours - would you buy a similar model again? Yep - definitely.

As for the ML110 - from looking at the HP specs (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13477_div/13477_div.HTML) it looks like it does support RAID. VMware is cool though... very cool. :-)

How odd... You could always stick VMware ESXi on it and then install 2003 as a Virtual Server...

Hmm. Do you use DHCP to update the A and PTR records? I've noticed that some clients just don't update their PTR records properly even though they're supposed to. Not sure what to say about the random ones popping up - are you sure they aren't rogue devices on your network? (e.g can you ping them?)

Sorry - just re-read this and realised I've got the wrong end of the stick. Have you setup a reverse lookup zone for your subnet properly? - e.g. under "Reverse Lookup Zones" does it say A.B.x.x subnet (or whatever your subnet is!)?

I hate to say it but I absolutely abhor non-structured names. For everything. I really strongly believe in fixed naming conventions for everything... for example, most people would be able to tell me what role these servers did or at least have a bloody good guess: XXX-DC1 XXX-Print1 XXX-MIS1 XXX-ISA1 XXX-SEC1 I use fixed naming conventions for everything - GPOs, Printers, Users, Workstatons, switches, APs... everything. I always think a name should be purposeful and explanatory. I'll get off my soapbox now and get m'coat.

From memory... can you right-click on the drive in backup exec and do a catalog job? you should then be able to right-click and do a restore.

Have you enabled scavenging at all levels? Server and zone level?

You'll be disappointed if you go from the Focus to the Fester... the Focus feels much more "grown-up" and comfy. I had a Focus 2.0Tdci and then a Fiesta 1.6 (petrol) Zetec and although the fiesta was a good little car, the Focus was much more comfortable and seemed to handle better too. If you could stretch to the new shape Fiesta then you might be on to a winner...

Is the software up to date on the APs/ZoneDirector? I believe there was a new release late last week.

How old is the wifi driver on these samsungs? We've had issues with using out of data wireless drivers with our Ruckus system - as soon as you update the drive on the client everything runs perfectly.

Can anyone explain how you customise the RD environment for the logged on user? Basically the user just gets an RDP session to the 2008 server, is that right? Do I then just lock it down by applying Group Policy objects to the server? or is there a 'better/proper' way to do it?

Ah - that's interesting. We have our own dedicated redundant network for the iscsi traffic - so it won't even impact on the 'normal' LAN. In that case... I'll just fire up a new VM and have a play!

Just curious as I have a vSphere setup here too, but only an iscsi SAN so would be a little bit concerned about over saturating the link. I think I'll have a play around with the old Dell as a guinea-pig and see how I get on!
