We had some issues with Organisational charts in MS Word but this was resolved by changing the brightness setting. We've tested on HP MFP's - colour models 6030/40, 4730, 3530 and Mono Models 9040/50, 4345 and 3035. We didn't notice any difference at 0% to what we were printing before Preton and prints were still very acceptable at 25% to 30%. At 35% you started to notice the greying and anything above 50% was really noticeable. We have also tested both HP originals and re-manufactured (Clover) toners. We saw savings over both originals and re-manufactured but different percentage of savings on each especially the colour ones. We have now also moved to Clover remanufactured toners to further reduce costs. It's definitely worth a try as a product though.

We've finished our testing Steve and have bought and deployed the product. The process has been a longer one than expected as we are reporting our findings in partnership with the Welsh Government's Efficiencies Board on determining it's impact for the whole of the public sector in Wales. We have been thoroughly testing PretonSaver for several months and working in partnership with TeamLogic on the results/queries of the trial. We have tested the product against over 150 Applications on 6 different models of HP multi function printers. We have also analysed the results against every toner cartridge using toner weight tests. I can confirm the product does "what it says on the tin" ! Our tests were carried out following the printing of over 30,000 pages and we saw savings of 29% when the settings of PretonSaver were set at 30%. So the company's claims to being +/- 5% on the savings are correct. When set at 25% there is very little noticeable difference in print quality. We have now purchased the product and have deployed it to 3,000 Pcs (along with the software's optional power management module). Purchasing this product is a "no-brainer". We are currently undertaking a large test of Pretonsaver. We use HP MFPs (240 of them) and use the Safecom Print Management solution. We are looking at using Pretonsave to reduce toner expenditure. We produce 375,000 pages per week. Our initial findings are very positive and we are seeing savings of between 35 and 45% on print jobs with regard to toner reduction. These figures are not from the manufacturer, these are from our own tests. At 35% reduction there isn't much difference in the printed output quality either. We still have some testing to do but based on the figures so far the purchase of this product is a "No Brainer" as it will pay for itself in just over 3 months ! PS - This technology works for inkjets and Laser prints and not photocopiers so if you have a managed service with copiers ..... sorry ... no use !

I'd suggest using HP Web JetAdmin which gives you total management over your Printers (HP and Non HP). You can configure all the alerts you need. HP Web Jetadmin software

Another method would be to change the "My Computer" text on the My Computer icon. This can be done by amending the Class ID 20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D in the registry to include %Username% and %Computername%. See below. Not sure what South Wales School or Authority you're in but the use of these devices are getting talked about at most schools. The intention is to engage those pupils, predominantly in Primary schools, who are not interested in traditional methods of learning e.g. reading books, internet etc These types of devices can engage the learner as they end up learning through play. The main issue is that schools have to assess the pupils progress and how do you store the data from these devices back onto your fileserver so that you have a complete picture of the students progress. The fileserver may contain Word documents, Presentations, Spreadhseets etc that the pupil has worked on but how do you get their data/progress off an IPad, IPod Touch, Nintendo DS etc so all their progress is saved in one place ? Very difficult when Apple "bubble" the data in with the Application. If the data on these devices can be copied to a fileserver then I think there'll be a future for them, however, if this can't be overcome I think their use may be limiting. Early days with this type of technology but watch this space there's huge potential with these devices (just not yet)

I wouldn't disagree with the majority of comments on this thread. Your decision will be based on how much of a "hobbyist" you are or how seriously you want to be with your photography. The cash you want to spend is also a consideration. The people on here who recommend Canon, Nikon or Sony are spot on and you won't see many serious/professional photographers with anything else. With a DSLR though you do have the lens consideration and extra cost. It also depends what type of photography you want to do, scenic, portrait, motorsport, wildlife etc. If you can afford one of the above plus the lenses then you won't go wrong. If the money is an issue and you want to grow into it then don't discount the Fuji Finepix HS10. It is a bridge camera but possibly the closest thing you'll get to a DSLR without the need for lenses. 30x zoom (24mm to 720mm), full 1080p video, 10 megapixel, RAW/JPG images. Approx £260. Limitations are that although it can take 10 frames per second it will only shoot 7 shoots in burst mode. Not as fast as a DSLR.
