If "webcam" actually means something like an Axis IP camera, which looks and functions much like a webcam, that quote would be in the right ballpark.

For the cost of the Buffalo drives I'd be tempted to stick one at each location and alternate the backups (Monday site 1, Tuesday site 2, Wednesday site 3) to make it more redundant. Also worth checking whether the school DR or Business Continuity plan mentions a specific school or schools which are part of the plan, for example where admin staff would be relocated to temporarily to keep things ticking over in the event of your location being unavailable. Using that location, rather than simply somewhere that you know the NM will do you a favour, would have significant benefits in a crisis as your data is already there. If you can bung an image of your SIMS server on the NAS, so much the better.

All you'd really need would be a box at the remote location with plenty of disk space, and a fast enough connection between them that you do your backups in a reasonable amount of time. Something like Netgear RND2110 ReadyNAS Duo 1TB NAS Drive - FREE DRIVE | Ebuyer.com would do it, particularly with the RAID redundancy. Obviously you'd need to sort out security for the box but it's fairly standard stuff.

Do schools typically have reciprocal arrangements with another local (but sufficiently remote) school to each host a server or NAS box at each other's location to do offsite back ups to?

Turns out that the person who had built the image before passing it to me to customise had a little accident with CopyProfile and learning how different sysprep is in 7

I've found that in the default user profile of the image I'm building at the moment there is over 100Mb of installation files for Java in c:\users\default\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java Can I safely trash these?

Thanks for the reply - I've actually tracked it down to the Konica Minolta Universal Driver being a heap of interfering junk that takes over and tries to do things its own way, confusing me about which printer I was changing the port on

We have a projector screen with "n'ecrivez pas sur cet ecran" after the languages dept borrowed one of our rooms and wrote in permanent pen on the projector screen in French

Maybe a graphics tablet, if she is able to use a pen?

A couple of our printers keep randomly picking up another port when the server boots up, so jobs end up printing to random places, or failing. These two printers are both Konica Minolta Multifunction Devices (but the ports they pick aren't, necessarily), and I've changed on to the Universal Driver when I migrated to 2008. One of the printers is managed through PCounter, the other isn't. Does anybody have any ideas what it going on?

Is there a Group Policy setting conflicting proxy settings? Could you push out the settings to domain users via the policy instead?

On the knocking over front, we've just taken delivery of some Dell Inspiron One 19, an all in one that has a photo frame type stand. They're actually pretty sturdy, although we're looking at some VESA monitor arms because we still don't think they're high enough even with the bit at the bottom.

Providing you set appropriate privacy settings on Facebook before the various randoms you met there start tagging you in photos! I'm just back from a week in Majorca on my own and it was fine. It's the second time I've been there on my own, and I did feel a lot more confident - partly because it was the second time, and partly because I've been learning Spanish - although the majority of staff in bars, restaurants and shops can speak English, having a bit of the lingo certainly helps when you're flying solo.
