Symantec Ghost PXE Server with 3Com Boot Services
acrobson replied to acrobson's topic in Wireless Networks
I couldn't think of an obvious reason why it wouldn't work and yes, all of the network cards settings are set to bridged. As a precaution, I have tried all of the various NIC options. The existing PXE server picks up the clients fine, however the VM PXE fails to. There al operating on the LAN within DHCP and using exactly the same installer package and bootab's. -
Symantec Ghost PXE Server with 3Com Boot Services
acrobson replied to acrobson's topic in Wireless Networks
Thanks IanT, My current PXE setup does to, I just need some redundancy. One thing I have discovered however, I have now managed to set up a fully working PXE server on another laptop, with TFTP server and the 3Com Boot Services. However, when replicating the steps on a Virtual Machine, the PXE Server just doesn't register any clients trying to connect. Are there issues with using PXE withim a VM environment? -
Hi, Has anyone tried setting up a PXE TFTP server using 3Com boot services with Symantec Ghost V11.00 on a VMWare Workstation Virtual Machine? I had problems all last week setting this up and put it down to me forgetting something obvious, however, I have since set up a redundancy on a physical laptop and PC and mirrored the steps I took on the VPC and still, the client isn't talking to the PXE/TFT servers yet they are when using the actual laptops/PC versions I have set up outside of the virtual environment.

Symantec Ghost PXE Server with 3Com Boot Services
acrobson replied to acrobson's topic in Wireless Networks
Cheers! I cannot see what is different from the last time I set this up and have mirrored the settings from the existing live system to the new one, from DNS settings to permissions to firewall settings etc etc and all are identical. However, whenever I boot a machine up using PXE on the client and have the known working PXE server disconnected, the new PXE server just doesn't pick up the client machines. yet, as soon as the original PXE is back on line, boot up the client, it works fine and hands out the relevant gui with drivers etc. I mite capture the installation process as an avi on VMWare and post it on youtube at some point if I dont get any where this week... -
I just wondered if anyone has any documentation for setting up a Symantec Ghost 11.0 PXE Server using 3Com Boot Services? I set a PXE server up using 3Com Boot services some time ago and now need to set up another for redundancy, I have done what I believe I did last time, however, the clients just wont register with the running TFTP server (from 3Com Boot Services installer) or with the PXE Server and Boot Tab Editor. The original PXE server is up and running as always, so I don't think this is a problem with DHCP. I am trying to set this up on a Virtual Machine and a laptop, the laptop is working better than the VM for PXE booting, are there known issues with using a VM on Windows XP as a PXE server? Cheers,

Stop VMWare booting via network when creating a new VM
acrobson replied to acrobson's topic in How do you do....it?
I have tried various ISO's which are know good and working as well as having the actual bootable disc in the CD optical drive. I have uploaded another video to you tube detailing the settings within the BIOS - YouTube - VMWare PXE Boot - Wont boot from Disc.avi I have also just pretended VM was a MS product and completely removed VM Workstation from PC as well as any registry entries and completely reinstalled. The problem is still there however! Thanks, -
Stop VMWare booting via network when creating a new VM
acrobson replied to acrobson's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks for the reply, the boot order is set for CD > HDD > Removable deice > LAN and both the optical driv and birdged NIC are conneted and set to 'connect at power on'. The thing that frustrates me about this issue is that absolutely nothing has changed since I set up the orignal VM some time ago. -
Afternoon, I am trying to add another virtual PC using WMWare Workstation 7.0. I have been running a virtual machine with XP on for some months now, which installed fine from installer disk. I have now come to add another virtual machine using both the installer disc and from ISO and each time, once I have set up the virtual machine and it then reboots, it is trying to boot using PXE and searching for a DHCP response. I have not chosen it to do this and simply want it to install from disc as it did originally. This occurs with all OS's, all discs are know good working discs as are the ISO images. I have gone into the BIOS of the WM and set the boot options to CD Rom first and network boot last, however this has made no difference, I cannot find an option to disable/remove the option for network boot. I have tried this both with the Vm's network card connected and disconnected and do have it set as a 'bridged' connection in order to replicate the physical network state. I have uploaded a video to youtube to show what happens, this can be seen here - YouTube - PXE Movie.avi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH9ZwRHt460 How can I stop this trying to boot from the network and just use the damm disc? Cheers!

Cheers, I saw both topics, that's why I posted in both. With regards to Apple, neither would not being able to make phone calls due to the way the users holds the handset...oh...wait...that did happen!

I have seen the downgrade and I too will be staying well clear, I really dont want to have to chance voiding the warranty of the Desire and root the phone just to get 2.2, but if needs must....! One of the many benefits of the HTC Desire is it being unbranded and open source as with the Android platform. We mide as well buy an iPhone if we want restrictions like this put on us! Additional details can be found on this blog post too, the majority of which is already in the media spotlight, however there are some useful links to various channels of complaint etc - Vodafone HTC Desire 360 Branded Update - FAIL

Cheers PeterH! That is very interesting, the same user having the problem also asked me (after having recreating there profile) to set her Outlook to underline spelling mistakes in red, I.E. selecting Word to be the default email editor. However, they were having this problem immediately after the new profile being created, yet before Outlook had even been opened again. I will double check this when in the office tommorrow as from that link and what you have said, this is exactly the same issue. This is week 3 now! Thanks again.

We have a problem where a user when accessing Microsoft Office Word 2003, the MS Word where a user cannot maximise or ‘drag’ the window to a different size (wider or larger). When opening MS Word, it opens half way down the screen and when maximising, does not maximising and the edges cannot be dragged winder or taller. To date we have – • Changed the resolution – This did resolve the problem; however the issue returned within two days and changing the resolution again failed to resolve the problem. • Re-create the normal.dot template • Reinstall office 2003 • Recreated the users local and network profile Has anyone else had this problem and how did you resolve it?!

Yeah, thanks for that. I am convinced it is GPO related, as as soon as the GPO is disabled, it works fine, even without a reboot. The thing which is troubling me is how it has just started happening. I will try 'Disable changing default browser check' tomorrow, however I would like to find a solution that won't require any user interaction at all and just work as it used two, prior to the last two weeks. I.E, user clicks on a PDF docuement on a website and it just opens, with out any restrictions error. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had similar issues with regards to Adobe Reader 9 updates recently.

The way DNS is set up works for the site in question as a whole, I took over this site some time ago and in order to get it to an acceptable level would take more resources and man power than is allowed under both the SLA and what the 'customer' is willing to pay. As for my signature, I am certainly not in the habit of causing offence, however, I find (not on here to date) that some people can be too sensitive at times. Cheers!

Of course! DHCP. I had my head in DNS. I've been working on GPO and stuff all this week and it had my ehad done in. All done before the weekend though.....woop woop! Cheers man!

Hi, Is it possible to configure the order in which DNS server addresses are handed out in server 2003? The current DNS server we have hands out the DNS server IP addresses in a certain order at the moment and I would like to change the order and swap them round. This probably sees like a really silly question! Cheers....

Evening all, Is there a way to force the default browser with a local security policy to Internet Explorer? under 'default browser' under Control Panel > Add or remove programs > Set Program Access and Defaults > Custom > Choose a default web browser. The reason being within the last 2 weeks, I suspect following an Adobe update, a number of machines which are controlled by local security policies are are failing to allow Adobe Reader to be used displaying - 'This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in affect on this computer. Please contact your computer administrator' At first, I suspected this was to do with the security settings in Adobe Reader 9.3 and thus disabled them, however the problem persisted. On disabling the local security policy completely, the problem goes away, so clearly, it is something to do with the local security policy. I have also added all additional .exe files to the allowed executables rule within the local group policy as well as adding a wildcard for all executables to run and again, this has failed to resolve the problem. An update was available for 9.3.2 whilst I was working on the machines and once this was applied, it is now possible to open Adobe PDF files and as appose to just getting 'This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in affect on this computer. Please contact your computer administrator' straight away. it does actually let you view the document with Adobe Reader, then exactly 17 seconds later, the restriction message appears and when you click 'OK' it goes but lets you continue to view the documents. and we have found, by changing the default browser to IE within 'Set program access and defaults' the error is not displayed with the security policy in place, however, once the PC is restarted, the default browser is changed back to 'default' or current' as appose to IE. The clients are Windows XP SP3 Cheers, AC

Evening all, I would normally sit and work through various options to sort this, however time is a little against me! I have a laptop which when shutting down, restarting and logging off is presenting the user with 'End Program - SAMPLE' - 'END NOW?' I have confirmed it is not a virus or anything malicious, but simply something to do with the Intel Wireless device drivers for the wireless card. I have found some fixes from good old Google, however these have failed to do as stated, i.e fix it! I have stopped the intel pro services, which are not required and also amended what I can from the start up etc, however, still no luck. Has anyone seen this and if so, how have you managed to resolve it.

[android] HTC Desire - update - is it Froyo?
acrobson replied to SimpleSi's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I just got the HTC Desire this week, very very impressed with it to date. Except for the bottom part of the touch screen which doesn't work! There is one line that does not detect touch and therefore the vertical keyboard doesn't work correctly! Nevermind, it is getting replaced once a certain service provider get the HTC back in stock. -
I'm running 64 bit Win 7 and 32 bit XP. All of our hardware can handle 64 bit, so thought...Why not ) So far I have removed one network drive, a one which I mapped a while back to another test machine which is now been turned off for a while. I wonder if that is what has been causing the problem? Saying that, one, would'nt it cause Win7 to freeze all the time when opening explorer windows and not just 85% of the time and two, the XP machine has the mapped drive to the same turned off machine and works fine. Good old win XP )

Hi, AV isn't a problem. All folder permissions are fine from what I can tell, I have used both fresh user profiles on the windows 7 machine as well as a profile which is used on both XP and Win7, with a username.v2 extentions on the end. There is a home drive mapped to the home drive server, as well as numerous other drives mapped to various SAN and NAS drives. Hows that?

I was thinking along the lines of a network issue, as when I tried it with a local account, in the early days of testing, all worked fine, then as soon as a roaming AD profile was used, with mapped drives etc etc, the so called 'Green Ribbon of Death' started appearing when enter the likes of 'My Computer. However, all of the XP cleints run fine, without a hitch. I have found a few google results that say the only option is to end 'explorer.exe' through the task manager, but surely there is a patch/fix for this, as once this it's rolled out, you cannot expect end users to have access to task manager let alone know what to do with it!
