I ended up getting an ATI 7870 (free gaimz, opencl is apparently much / going to be bigger than cuda, oc'd this card is a beast and better than the gtx 660 etc) I presume (4 year old) TVs aren't good for gaming? If that's the case I need a new monitor? And probably an SSD in the new year. Who needs savings? lol
-
I did that during the summer sales. Bought loads of games and I haven't touched most of them
-
Oh yes. At a quick glace I think Overclockers prices are better than Scans / Arias / Ebuyers for these graphics cards anyway so I think I'll get a card from there. Just need to decide on how much I want to spend now...I'll probably get the GTX 660 as the upgrade from the 7850 seems to be worth it for the extra £20-£30 or so. Thanks again.
-
Oh yes that was stupid of me. Here's the link. I see the price difference isn't that much so I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!
-
I think I'm going to order this graphics card then if need be order a monitor made in this decade lol. Anyone have any other suggestions before I buy it? Thanks in-advanced...I really need to get back on top of what the latest and greatest hardware is! Edit - or is this one worth the extra £30? I assume it is considering it comes with 3 games!

My TV supports 1080i and 720p but the picture looks cr@p so I've put it on 1360x768 (HDMI connection) for the time being, however I don't think that's neither 720p nor 1080i. Oh well. If need be I can always buy a proper monitor if this TV isn't up to it. Thanks all! Any more advise is much appreciated
-
1024x768 most likely as my monitor (a TV) doesn't support higher, I'm not after full HD but something thats not laggy and looks ok. As you can probably tell I am not a "hardcore" gamer by any means!

Hi All I'm tempted to get back into gaming and to do so I'll need to update my graphics card. My current system specs are: Intel i5 2500 16gb ram Nvidia Gt430 SATA HDDs I'm looking to play Arma 2, Dayz mod, DayZ standalone, GTA5 etc. My question is what graphics card should I get (don't care which brand)? Is the ATI 7850 overkill? Is there something better / cheaper I should go for instead? My budget can stretch up to £100 but preferably under. Cheers Matt

Google Chrome - Setting the Homepage with ADM
mwbutler replied to mwbutler's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
So that's where that setting was hiding! Excellent everything is now working, thanks for your help and the extra tips -
Hi I've got Chrome working on our Windows XP network and it's picking up the settings from Group Policy fine, however I have one remaining issue - when Chrome loads how do I set that page as the Homepage? Currently a blank page loads and there's an icon / link for the Chrome Web Store and we don't want this there. Students can press the Homepage button to get to the Homepage (our Intranet) but this is not how we want it to work. What am I missing? I assume this can be done? Having never used Chrome and I don't know too much about it so any help is really appreciated. Cheers Matt

We found that free programs never worked for us, so here's what we do to get rid of these annoying files. Open up Command Prompt and type on seperate lines: h: cd RMUsers\Students\Work\Year11 cd User123 rmdir /S a What it does: h: - Changes to H: Drive cd RMUsers\Students\Work\Year11 - Changes Directory to Year 11 folder cd User123 - Changes Directory to that user rmdir /S a - Removes Directory called a If the folder has a space in it, e.g My Settings, make sure you use " " around the word. e.g The removal command should look like this: rmdir /S "My Settings" Hope this helps!

VSS is a piece of carp that has never worked for the majority of people who were unfortunate enough to buy it. I spent hours trying to get it working for my parents and ended up giving up. On their forum there is (or at least was) a dedicated forum for VSS with guides and tips and so many people couldn't get it working it was unreal. VF just didn't care (they don't give a f*$% about their customers) so as a family we ditched our contracts when they ended and have never looked back. In short, browse their online forum and see if the tips work - the users there are actually rather helpful and knowledgeable...unlike their staff. Good luck!

I've changed the Writeaccess.ini file to simply this: [C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\adobe\SLStore] Tav Students=0x1F01FF TAV Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF TAV Non-Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF The settings have applied fine on the SLStore folder but I still get the Error 16 when a student tries to run any program. So What I'm going to try now is redit the Writeaccess.ini file with this... [C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe] Tav Students=0x1F01FF TAV Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF TAV Non-Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF [C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD] Tav Students=0x1F01FF TAV Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF TAV Non-Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF [C:\Program Files\Adobe] Tav Students=0x1F01FF TAV Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF TAV Non-Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF [C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\adobe\SLStore] Tav Students=0x1F01FF TAV Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF TAV Non-Teaching Staff=0x1F01FF ...and hope it works. Another deallocate / reallocate of CS6 here I come!

Hi All (We are a RM CC3 / XP SP3 network) Yesterday I created an MSI using the Adobe MSI creator software (cannot remember what it's called) and deployed it to a few test machines. Students got the 213:11 error and I found on this site the fix is to create a a writeaccess.ini file with the following content: [C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe] Everyone=0x1301BF [C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD] Everyone=0x1301BF [C:\Program Files\Adobe] Everyone=0x1301BF [C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\adobe\SLStore] Everyone=0x1301BF I have ran RMAppGPOUpdateUtility.exe on our FRDC, rebuilt 2 new computers, allocated / installed CS6 and I now get this error for student users: Please uninstall and reinstall the product Error 16 I reset the profiles / health checked 2 test users profiles before doing this just to maker sure the accounts were "clean" too. The software *does* work fine on Admin accounts. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem? (Apologies if you have seen this post on another Techy site!) Cheers

It's also on Technet along with the horrific looking Office 2013 Preview which was unveiled yesterday.
-
I already have it set this way (using GPP) but I can see the IT teachers wanting a better fix than having to restart everytime they want to use Kodu.
-
Ahh ! Looks like I'm going to have to play with the security settings then. Thanks again.
-
This solved the problem for us so thanks so much for the fix! Will this reg value constantly change when NetSupport (we use RM Tutor but it's the same thing) is used? Thanks again

We have the same problem and we have RM Tutor installed which I believe is NetSupport just rebranded(?). ATI 5450 graphics cards too.

KMS Server doesn't seem to be working
mwbutler replied to mwbutler's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Ah thanks for that might be useful. Think I'm going to leave all computers that already have Office 2010 installed as they're all ok on the MAK key but any computer from now on will get a KMS key. Network rebuild soon as we're switching over to Windows 7 (at last!) so it'll all be sorted then. Thanks all -
KMS Server doesn't seem to be working
mwbutler replied to mwbutler's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I've found the problem. We are a RM CC3 network and we bought the RM Office 2010 MSI package. RM configure the package with their own MAK key and I ran a command (cannot remember what command) that confirmed I was using a MAK key instead of the KMS key. If you want to use your KMS Server for activation you have to use the Office Customization Tool to edit an .MSP file to tell it to use KMS instead of the MAK key. I have done this and I' hoping a reinstall of the Office Suite will fix the problem. Hopefully Outlook profiles do not get messed up otherwise the Admin staff aren't going to like me lol. I'll be testing this shortly. -
KMS Server doesn't seem to be working
mwbutler replied to mwbutler's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Yep Office says it's activated but the KMS server still isn't reporting it has activated Office for any computers. edit: Just looking through the KMS Server Event Log and I saw this so I assume DNS is working ok. Log Name: Application Source: Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP Date: 03/07/2012 10:29:13 Event ID: 12294 Task Category: None Level: Information Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: kms.server Publishing the Key Management Service (KMS) to DNS in the 'school.local' domain is successful. As well as lots of these entries below. Not sure what it means but something is "successful!" KMS Server doesn't seem to be working
mwbutler replied to mwbutler's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I've ran this on my PC and it seemed to run fine with no errors. Event Viewer has several entries like "The Software Protection service has successfully installed the license" so all seems good apart from our KMS Server still isn't reporting any license request or successful activations etc. Maybe i'm being too impatient? cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d16864 is the command I am running to check activations. I assume this is correct for Office 2010? Thanks again -
KMS Server doesn't seem to be working
mwbutler replied to mwbutler's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
We used the correct Key and I've just double checked there is a DNS entry plus the VLMCS DNS entry which lists the correct Server + port number.
