Yes, we have Impero and Smoothwall Monitor installed on all workstations. However, for staff, they aren't actively monitored (aside from severe captures that are flagged by a human from Smoothwall), though we are occasionally asked to provide history upon request for HR.

We use SCEP for our AV solution and it's configured for both on-access scanning and also weekly full scans. However, I've noticed that when a scan is running, Security Center on the client/server doesn't show any signs that a scan is actually happening...yet I can see that the Antimalware Service Executible Service is hitting the CPU. Does anyone know if it's possible to get the progress to show or show an ETA?

Oh, so I don't apply that policy to the servers themselves, but the actual user/machine? Now I'm wondering which of the two it would be best applying to. I'm going to assume user, so I have more control to who it applies to.

Cheers. I can now see that there are storage sense GPO policies, which I'll probably apply to my file server. My Google-Fu well and truly failed me and I was getting results for home versions of Windows or other recovery software! I hope this won't be the case for us, though we can resort back to our EOY backup, or termly backups we take at Christmas and Easter. Failing that, it's going to a learning exercise for them.

Does the $RECYCLE.BIN folder in each user's home folder automatically delete the contents after a certain period of time. I know by default, home versions of Windows will delete contents in the recycle bin after 30 days, but I'm finding massive recycle bin folders in our user's home folders. Is this something that is configurable in Server 2022? I know I can go and use a file/folder explorer like WhizzTree to do this, but I'd like to have it automated if possible!

We're finding that whenever our file servers perform the scheduled VSS tasks, SCCM's Endpoint Protection on-access scanning is battering the CPU as it tries to scan every file being copied. This has caused intensive CPU usage during these scheduled VSS jobs, slowing down not only the progress, but also everything else on the server. I can't seem to figure out how to add VSS as an exception in the Antimalware policy in SCCM, as the syntax I've seen for other AVs is not compatible. Can anyone shed any light, or share their practices for file server scanning/VSS?

I've also experienced this before and it was because it was having a hissyfit trying to download it to the share. Instead, I logged onto the server that the share was hosted on, browsed to the folder location and ran the download batch file. It then downloaded the content as expected.

I also often find that moving to lane 1 when you approach very slow traffic, especially coming up to junctions or an accident is actually faster, as you have a lot of people trying to go lane 3.

Whenever I've had that, it's because the config file is referencing a location not where it's expected. I think even if you have a dashcam and can prove that both signs were present and conflicting, you'd still get done as the temporary roadworks speed limit should have priority.

Yeah, I've noticed quite often that there can be sync issues between gantries or specified speeds limits for what appears to be no apparent reason. Being in Birmingham, I have to deal with smart motorways if I want to go anywhere outside of Birmingham and the trip up the M6 to see family in Liverpool is almost all smart motorway. People don't understand that you basically don't use the hard shoulder unless it states you can (usually with writing or a speed limit posted for that lane). The main issue with them is if you break down in an active hard shoulder and can't make it to a refuge point, leaving you stranded. That's an active lane until the highways agency are made aware of your stranded vehicle. This is correct.

I'd be going off what the sign in the red circle says, as that should override the normally stated speed limit. For exmaple, if you're driving down a non-smart motorway or a dual carriage way, you'll have the white circle with a black line sign saying it's national speed limit. When that road has road works, they don't remove those national speed limit signs...but they place those speed limit in red circle signs, which override the existing signage.

I've found it's often cheaper to buy new frames with the new lense perscription in them, or at least not that far off cost wise. However, an optitians should be able to create new lenses for your chosen frames, even if you didn't buy it from them. You'd probably have to give the frames to them and they'll get sent to the lab where the lenses are created.

I'd recommend having a chat with them and laying our what you're after, they should be able to accomodate it in the scope of the project. If you aren't entirely sure, this type of installation project is something they do regularly, so you can also ask for advice/recommendations (though be wary of any upsell).

I think we used it for the original Windows 10 deployment, but quickly moved to LTSC/B the following year and adopted the H2+6 months update cycle. One of the attractions to it was that it was more like a traditional OS cycle upgrade every 3 years or so, rather than a headache every year. Managing the H2 cycle wasn't too difficult (except when they broke things like the Start Menu XML layouts) and it meant we could introduce security and feature updates more quickly. We are now moving away from Office 2019 and towards M365 Apps for the same reason.

Senso Cloud (created by one of the guys who originally created Impero) and NetSupport are probably the two main competitors for Impero. I've seen mention of AB Tutor and Classroom Cloud before, though never really seen a demo of them. I also saw Lazarus at BETT this year, though I don't have any experience with them either.

You'd probably go with what's cheaper or more convenient. Device licenses where the users have to use specific machines or user licenses where if you install Creative Cloud on the machine, you can install However, the management of CC is an absolute nightmare. We have user licensing, because we only have <25 users that use it (media guy and a few for Adobe Acrobat to convert PDFs to Word) and the only way we can get it to deploy is to manually install Creative Cloud on the user's machine. They log into CC and then press install on the application they want to use, wait for it install and away they go. The deployment of packages has simply not worked every time we've used it.

(1) is pretty evident when you try and use it! I asked "How do I take a register" and it told me to make a list of names of people you expect to attend, for those who arrive late add them and mark accordingly and write who is absent with the reason why if provided. While it's not wrong, a true tailored experience would explain how to do it in Bromcom. Clearly it's a work in progress (so why add it when it's not ready?).

We did trial barracuda, though the school opted for not paying £3k a year for it. That's probably going to be my plan. I just need to decide on the model of NAS and whether I need to RAID the drives (probably just RAID5).

Ok, I think you've all helped confirm my decision. Now to calculate how much storage I'd need and what retention to go for. We have 8TB of production data in M365, so I'm thinking 30 days retention. We have also had issues Salamander not corrently archive/convert to shared mailbox and just deleted leavers...which we've then had requests for access/data for and we can't provide it. The incident we had today was for someone who left over 6 months ago, so I don't think we'd be able to reasonably retain that much data for that long.

We have been looking at backing up our M365 data on-site and found that Synology's Active Backup for M365 is free. I've also found that there's a community project called Xpenology, which allows you to run the Synology environment on other hardware and even a VM. So I'm considering utilising the free space we have on our SAN as a backup repository for Xpenology running on a VM. My main concern is safety, as this is a community project that involves a modded OS being installed on a production server. My gut says just buy an actual Synology unit and some drives - but I was hoping to save some money if possible (but only if I can find some recommendations or reassurance).

I have the whole thing running from a share. I just update the shortcut and import the settings from the old version and conigure new settings if required in the new version. The application lives on \\server\share$\ExamWritePad\ and a shortcut for it on the shared desktop that our exam accounts use.

We just use the classroom management software to do this (Impero in our case).
