I fry up the leftover vegetables/turkey/stuffing and add some gravy and whack it in a stottie on boxing day. Its my favourite meal of the year!

I was wearing my G Shock GA-100 until I gently knocked it against the desk, which popped the strap retaining pin out. Pin was slightly bent so I thought 'no problem' I'll buy a new strap and pin on ebay. After spending a princely £5 for this it arrived and I found I could no longer fit the pin into the watch body , as the old pin scratched a 'track' in the soft plastic when I knocked it, meaning the new pin won't stay put. Have to say for a G Shock it was a bit disappointing! Still on the plus side, it means I can now spend hours on ebay looking for another bargain, I'm a big fan of analogue & digital crossover watches

To be honest, the ones I've got here will not work with an unrestricted PC, with an admin user. You can copy and paste the hex file over, then the windows explorer window closes. Thats it, nothing else happens I've tried 5 microbits and its the same on the unrestricted PC as the configured classroom ones, I can't connect using the IOS app and bluethooth either as it won't got past the pattern screen when pairing.

It looks like these microbits we have don't work with Windows 10 anyway - I've tried 4 on an admin PC (with admin rights and no bitlocker/usb policies) and copying the file over results in Windows Explorer closing and nothing else happens That's on W10 1803 and 1809, maybe these microbits are too old (they've been in a cupboard for about 4-5 years!)

Isn't the Device ID of a Microbit just a generic usb storage device? I think I've looked at this before.

We have a set of microbits that seemed to get dragged out once every 18 months. So since the last time they were used we've enforced a read only policy on unencrypted usb drives, which is a machine policy Of course, that now makes the microbits read only - I don't really want to switch off the encryption policy but I can't see another way around this. How have you managed to allow microbits without giving full access to USB for students, or maintain your encryption policy?

You can remake something and make a better version though. The 2005 film version wasn't bad but it was set in the modern day. Remaking the old 50's series (i.e set in the 1890's) with better effects and so on would have been worthwhile.

Dear me, what have I just watched!? Probably the worst thing in decades and an absolutely murdered remake of a classic. Awful acting, tedious plot that veered off on stupid tangents and BBC's PC department making sure every box was ticked whether it made sense or not. The invasion of earth by the martians seemed to be incidental to the camera operator as it panned around her face staring into empty space for minutes at a time. The lead male character was so hapless I was rooting for the martians to get him asap, although I guess the BBC had a few things on their agenda a) strong female lead b) gormless male lead c) anti-empire comments at every opportunity d) overblown 'arty' camera shots for every time the female lead was speaking. 3 hours long, and had 10 minutes of plot. Maybe I'll buy the BBC the book for christmas so they can read the actual story.

All local profiles here. If I copy the folders 'pnacl' and 'pnacltranslationcache' from a working users Appdata\Local to a non working users folder then it seems to work. But why it works/fails randomly is a bit odd.

Yes that's enabled for all users in our Chrome policies. It seems to be up to date, just the user's profile can't seem to see that it is.

We have a web subscription to a site which is causing a right pain. It seems to use the Chrome pnacl component. When I check as an admin in chrome://components I can see it there and up to date as Version 0.57.44.2492, but when a non admin logs it it shows version 0.0.0.0 As we normally disable access to the chrome://components tab I've temporarily opened it, and the non admin user can click Update, and it then shows version 0.57.44.2492, the web site then works correctly Surely a component is installed for all users of chrome browser? Or is there a way to forcibly install/update it?

Well, if anyone else has this problem the answer is simple. Even though the HP 212 adaptor is on the HCL it categorically will not work with Windows VMs in passthrough mode in VMWare 6, 6.5 or 6.7!

I've setup an HP DL360 with an additional PCI HP 212 Storage adaptor to connect to an external tape drive. I've then installed ESXI 6.7 U3 (HP custom) and all is working. Once I add the HP212 as passthrough though, I cannot get any VM to start (this is blank so all VMs are new) - if I try to install Server 2019 I get the Windows icon and the spinning wheel, and trying to install Server 2016 just comes up with an I/O error I've used this sort of config before, and the 212 was working fine in a previous server. If I remove it from the VM options all goes according to plan, but the purpose of this VM is to access the tape drive! I've even tried ESXI 6.5 and it does the same. The HP 212 is on VMWare HCL as well - its not exactly a new device so anyone had this sort of problem before?

Ah the sarcastic sigh of an apple fanboi..... I'll just tell our primary schools to buck their ideas up, and connect their ipad mini 1's to their poor internet connection to upload a photo they need to print right now for a presentation.....

Not sure, it seems a lot worse with iOS and W10 though. I rarely had issues with W7 and iOS and I still very rarely have issues with W10 and Android.

But it doesn't explain why it doesn't work very well if at all with W10. Sometimes you need to copy photos off without cloud facilities.

We use google drive to upload/share photos from iPads However when connecting them to W10 PCs (1809) its a complete lucky dip as to whether you will see all, some or none of the photos.

We have updated and also have the print registers issue, which capita have acknowledged is a problem, but as yet haven't offered a solution!

Another day, another W10 annoyance :-) On our previously working 1809 image, we now seem to have an issue. When a non admin user logs in they get a UAC (blue) prompt saying that a {classid} need elevation. When I've checked the class id is the fodhelper.exe service, or 'Features on Demand' Problem is, I've got no idea what this is trying to install, and why it needs admin rights, nothing is logged and if they cancel the UAC prompt they don't see it again. However its still a pain and a valid complaint from staff on shared PCs I've never seen this before on any of our imaged PCs - if I at least knew what it was trying to install I could add it in!

Cheers, I think I've managed to find a way - downloading the (5.5gb!) language pack ISO from VLSC and using lpksetup and browsing to the mounted ISO. What a carry on though - now I simply have to fix the broken Windows Update on these PCs....

I've got a few freshly imaged W10 1809 PCs that refuse to cooperate with languages. They simply sit at the point saying Searching for English language display pack. Then it stops and nothing has happened. Is there a way to manually download and install the English Language display pack? otherwise I'll have to reimage them again which seems to be the MS answer to all problems.

We tend to tell staff that anyone doing a presentation will be given a guest login. Anything they want to bring in should be handed to IT to copy over to the guest login's Documents folder (after scanning it) so they can access it. This works OK, apart from the times they just roll up without warning.

We currently still allow them for Staff only, but have in the AUP that they should not be used for confidential information. I want to take this further (ideally block them) but I think allowing access to bitlocker encrypted devices only is the best compromise For those of you who configured this bitlocker restriction, did you use group policies or a third party tool?
