Even when we got the Ring working, it was awful. Despite having a 300Mbps wifi connection the quality was shoddy and very laggy. Useless in my opinion.

750gb a day wouldn't be a problem, apart from the initial upload. The daily upload would be a matter of a few gig at the most. It amazing how we now think 'oh a cap of 750gb a day, thats a bit inconvenient' I remember backing up servers to quarter inch tape on 'huge' 150Mb tapes. And its free!

Good point, but would Google care that an Admin created a separate account to store some data, it’s their data after all just stored under a separate account for convenience?

Is anyone using their standard educational G Suite storage for their backups? If so, what do you use, software or Google Drive File synch and scripts etc? I’ve tested using a specific backup account with a backup script and it seems to work, although quite slow with the council connection! I’m looking to move primary school backups (usually less than 2tb in total) to their G Suite storage plan so interested in what’s worked for other people

I don’t think the networksetup command is available in the terminal when in recovery mode, it simply thinks it’s an unknown command?

Wired is the same - to be honest the proxy is rarely an issue. Deploying iPads with AC2/DEP and an MDM doesn't cause any issues as the proxy is defined in the settings In the end I managed to wangle a temporary workaround - the Macbook's dhcp IP address was allowed through the firewall whilst it downloaded Macos

I've trying to reinstall Macos on a macbook, its connected to the wifi and I can get the the 'Install Macos Catalina' screen at whihc point I can connect to the wifi However, it always stops saying it can't connect which is correct as I've not been able to specify the proxy settings I've tried to do this in Terminal (inside the Utilities) using export http_proxy and export https_proxy but I always get the message 'The recovery server could not be contacted' Is there a better way to specify a wireless connections proxy to do this - the school I'm at can only use the council mandated proxy/port?

We're looking at the same sort of issue, replacing some ageing iMacs (which are 2009/10 models) To be fair, yes they cost a lot more, but they are still running OK 11 years later, not always the case for £500 Windows boxes! We upgraded them, SSD'd them and finally dual booted them with W10 to extend their life. I've got no problem with buying another set if we're looking at them lasting 7+ years, but leasing may also be an option due to the higher initial outlay

I did a straight export from the old (Supervision identity and Organisation settings) and imported it onto the new Mac. Prepared (with supervision option checked) an iPad and it worked OK and activated etc - until you tried to put a profile on However, after 4/5 attempts (and 2 reboots of the new Mac) it has now worked, and worked as I would have originally expected - so I'm not sure if I had an issue with either that iPad or the new Mac, as I tried twice, rebooted the mac, tried twice, rebooted the mac and finally it worked.

I've just moved our AC2 configuration to a newer mac - we still use it for a few devices to prepare them and add a profile I followed the Apple instructions and exported/imported the Organisation. Then I prepared an Ipad to test which worked, but when I try to apply a profile (from the previous mac) I just get the error saying it can't be added as the device isn't supervised? So does moving the AC2 profiles from one Mac to another render them useless, despite the organisation being exported across?

Well I managed to fix this without having to build a new server - didn't want to as I felt it was a challenge I had to win lol! - In place 'upgrade' to the same version of Server 2016 and keep Apps and Settings (which only partially worked) - Update to get rid of the old CredSSL error - In place upgrade to Server 2019 - Reinstall SQL Server and repair a couple of missing apps So far so good, but what a PITA caused by MS's own updates, especially as you can't roll back an SSU

I still rather manage my own music collection and often buys CDs as well as MP3s, so I like to just copy the albums to my phone to suit me. Recently though with iTunes being replaced by Finder for this in MacOS I've found it really frustrating to use, if not just a total bugfest! When you drag and drop music files, sometimes it freezes (even though no other actions are being performed) so the green 'plus' doesn't appear for a good while. Other times it copies an album, but orphans files into Unknown Album or similar (despite the tags all being set to the same - several times!) So what does anyone else use to copy music to the iPhone? I'm so sick of the buggy drag and drop, and the repeated failure of my iPhone to stay connected to wifi/data etc I'm started to drift back to android again, especially with the new OnePlus Nord at a tempting price!

I've had loads of issues with Server 2016 - and I hate the fact that this one has self destructed for no reason Even updating isn't an option - this is why I would never have W10 in my home again. Edit: Lots of poking around and I've this error in the CBS.log: "Failed to find a matching version for servicing stack: C:\WINDOWS\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.3561_none_7ef6ec6421f9a10c\ [hrESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]" This suggests the last SSU borked and that's why nothing will update and nothing will work with dism Of course you can't uninstall an SSU or reinstall an SSU so that's the end of the trail

Yeah I can snapshot it, and have a full backup as well - so destroying it is an option! This is happening far too often these days - my last 2008/2012 servers were rock solid until replaced. 2016 is a mess and 2019 isn't a whole lot better yet Edit: in place upgrade failed anyway - no options now other than build a whole new server

I'm scared to try - as this server has an SQL Server installation on it as well - just a basic one for logging but in place upgrades don't tend to go well - and if the server is already borked I may end up destroying it completely.

Another day, another Windows 10/Server 2016 (they're the same thing these days) has self destructed This server's 2016 Server Manager doesn't work, shows the 'Cannot get role and feature data' with the 'Unable to obtain feature list': Error Role and feature refresh failed with the following error: The request to list features available on the specified server failed. Unable to obtain the feature list. The specified package is not valid Windows package. Error: 0x800f0805 This is a common issue, and also means no updates will install, no features can be added or removed and so on. MS only suggest the usual dism /restorehealth or the hilarious 'sfc /scannow' (which has never fixed anything - ever) So it seems I now have another server where a complete reinstall is the only option - thanks to borked updates again it seems. Has anyone ever got the dism option to ever fix a borked install?

The VM Tools version is showing as compliant, as was installed from the host. I've reduced the cpus to 4 cores now, just to see if that has any impact, but so far its about the same, obviously its not getting used as much during the holidays, but logging in sees a blank black screen for a good few minutes before the desktop appears

That is so true, ask 5 MS resellers and get 5 different answers When you look at their O365 pricing structures you can actually feel your brain trying to escape your skull

Its the same spec as the older physical server, hence the 8 cores etc. It runs multiple roles but nothing heavy duty (DNS,NPS,DHCP and a few applications, plus lots of file server shares) RAID array on the host seems healthy, all decent 10k drives with no errors. The drivers are virtualised - basically as was created using the Convertor application I have noticed a slight improvement changing the 'Visual effects' to 'best performance' but its still laggy to open windows etc

The VM itself does, the host has 24 cores and 196GB ram, the other two servers are only 4 core/32GB basic servers

I've got 3 VMs on a 6.7 ESXI host, 2 are 2016 and one is 2012 All were migrated from physical using the VMWare convertor and all work OK - but one is incredibly laggy to use - opening any window/command prompt takes 10-15 seconds. Its got 8 cores and 64GB RAM (which is more than the original physical server had) and the performance monitoring shows its barely ticking over, with CPU peaking at 2-5% and RAM never hitting 10%. I don't think its a resource issue - but I'm not sure what would make it so laggy to use? Accessing file shares on the server is fine and no noticeable difference to any of the other VMs, but opening the DHCP console for example is painfully slow!

I've applied, it just seems odd that MS don't advertise this, or even mention it! I'm assuming it all above board! :-)

I've never heard of this company or this scheme but I'll be interested to see what they say - seems odd that this isn't available via MS themselves like Office is through through the OVS-ES agreement?
