  1. I wish I could say the same, we’ve tried all methods and still have a pretty poor success rate. Pretty stock image as well, nothing fancy just the edu version.
  2. I spent ages trying to get printers to deploy reliably on W10 and using a combination of GPP and machine policies I would say a user gets the printers they should maybe 75% of the time. Printing is a shocking mess in W10 and so unreliable compared to 7.
  3. This has been an issue since 1507 - it happens to us randomly as well, even on 2004. As Jcx500 says local profile deletion usually sorts the problem out (we're using local profiles)
  4. In case anyone has this issue I found the solution, at least in this case. The school in question had a series of GPOs applied and when investigating this I realised that some groups had IE preferences set, and in there both TLS 1.1 and 1.2 weren't checked. Not much of an issue as they use Chrome but it definitely broke this feature in Word. Enabling both and they work everywhere now. Just goes to show, you may think you've changed your default browser, but IE still clings on there in the background
  5. One of the joys of the ever bigger MATs - bigger contracts, bigger legal battles. This probably won't be the last of this type of thing
  6. Has anyone managed to get an Azure captive portal working with Xirrus networks? I've set one up and I can see in the Azure logs that authentication is successful but the device connecting either gets returned the the Xirrus 'Login failed' page or they are stuck at a blank page with office.com showing. This is connected to our Smoothwall so bypasses HTTPS inspection for testing at the moment
  7. We're going the other way, we've used GSuite for years and now the MAT are pushing us to O365. We already have an o365 domain as part of our OVS agreement so this is going to be another one! I'm glad I'm not the one telling staff we're switching again!
  8. Lol, typically I hadn't read that bit - I'm not sure why I then spent over an hour with their support going through this!
  9. I’m trying to get some users who have full G Suite user management rights (and regularly use this via the web interface) to use the iOS Google Admin app to be able to reset password etc using a tablet However when they’re signed in to the app it simply says that they need to be a super admin. This seems odd to me as the app has very limited functionality and is mainly user management anyway, and you don’t want too many super admins anyway. I haven’t had a straight answer from Google support yet as they don’t seem to know either, they have had me switch on the admin api access to unrestricted but it didn’t work.
  10. What bugs me is we have GSuite and also O365, yet they think Zoom or flipping facetime on their phone is a solution That a lesson I've learned from working in IT for many years - provide people with the best and most secure solution, but what they want to use is what they use at home - and you're wrong whatever you say
  11. I agree, and I don't like Zoom anyway - here it smacks too much of 'I use it at home, therefore its the only thing I can use' - but like I said, bored of being overuled so just gave up!
  12. We have GSuite so try to encourage Meet, but I've been overruled so many times I've installed Zoom on a few teachers PCs - I've learned that arguing to use the tools we have is a waste of breath!
  13. I tried that, but when they login their User settings apply - in here you have to specify a proxy, or say use no proxy. If I specify the proxy it doesn't work at home, and if I don't it doesn't work in school!
  14. I've got a situation here that I can't find a workaround for, and I get the feeling I'm missing something obvious! We have lots of chromebooks in school, all managed and Students have user settings deployed on the OU in GSuite admin. However some of these chromebooks are now being lent out to students to use at home - we still want to enforce the settings and restrict them to only using our domain - which works OK apart from proxy settings! When a student uses a chromebook in school their settings are applied based on their User OU - so they get the correct proxy settings. However when the same student logs in on the chromebook they have at home, the proxy settings are applied and they can't access the internet once logged in! Is there any way in GSuite chrome management to force the proxy settings by device, rather than user? Using the 'networks' settings and adding the proxy in there is overidden by the users settings?
  15. That's ominous, it sounds like a firmware issue. We also have noticed further weird behavior. 20 Laptops in the same room as an AP and they all connect to an AP several rooms away - with a much weaker signal When I check the AP thats in the room the log shows hundreds of these messages: "Station [mac], IAP iap2: deauthenticated, reason: Authentication no longer valid" And nothing connected to it. Its becoming a major headache as we're moving the students around a lot so need the wifi more than ever!
  16. We've got about 50 Xirrus Xr-600 series APs which have been in use for a few years with no real issues However in the last few weeks, even with the same number of clients we're seeing radio 'drop out' symptoms on the clients (which are laptops or chromebooks). These devices will see the wireless, and connect and then disconnect and see nothing, or a very weak signal. This is happening across the whole array - it just depends on where the mobile devices are being used to where its noticed Rebooting the whole array usually sorts this (after 5-10 minutes) but its not a solution - and it happens 2-3 times a week. I can't see any reason for this as interference wouldn't hit the whole lot, and the number of clients is well below each APs limit. Xirrus have recommended switching off beam forming and load balancing, but these have been on by default for years with no issues I'm baffled, as our radius server shows normal activity and the fact the signal drops/disappears tends to suggest a radio issue - which would maybe affect a faulty AP or two, but not the whole array? The list of Rogues shows the usual nearby houses with pretty weak signals. We were thinking of upgrading these APs, but I'm now thinking about the Unifi kit if I can't find a solution to this
  17. Weird, I logged out of VLSC and came back a few hours later, and they're all there now! Now I can patch this 2004 image!
  18. Odd, my VLSC shows only 1507 for that! And if I have to use the Store then I'll just leave it.
  19. I've got a few W10 2004 PCs that have decided to be English (United States) and need to have the English (UK) language pack installed Naturally this doesn't work - as even having an internet connection it says it can't download so I thought I'd install manually However, on the VLSC MS only offer language packs for W10 1507 - which doesn't work as it says this pack isn't applicable, surely there's a better way of getting the language pack installed? Or do I give up and reimage back to an older version?
  20. Their default browser is Chrome, and they can open the links normally in Chrome and IE11, and Edge Weirdly, it works for an administrator - and when I remove any policies it still shows the same error
  21. What an annoying problem this one is - users creating Word docs that have weblinks in them can't use them. When they click the link they get an error 'Unable to open . Cannot download the information you requested' They can open the URLS directly in any browser so that's not the issue. Does the same for any link, http or https All MS can offer is some guff about setting the ForceShellExecute registry but that didn't work for me or pretty much most people either. Is there an alternative fix to this I haven't found yet?
  22. Tried a few things but it always ends up the same, I guess the fault is onboard! Cheers for the tips - I just hate throwing away stuff without trying a few fixes first!
  23. I’ll try the other method suggested but I’m expecting it to be a bin job, as it’s not worth any expense to repair
  24. I've got a chromebook thats stuck on the 'ChromeOS is missing or damaged' screen, so I've downloaded the matching image from Google and used their Chrome app to create the USB recovery drive It recognises the USB, verifies it and proceeds to the point where it asks you to remove all connected devices (USb etc) to continue with recovery - at this point when I remove the USB it goes straight back to the 'ChromeOS is missing or damaged' screen Is this just a chromebook for the recycling or has anyone found a way around this? Its an Asus C300 model
  25. Has anyone ever used Google Drive File Stream to use the mapped drive as a store? Veeam Backup won't use it as its not a SMB or ReFs formatted drive I suppose I could script it, but the upload limitations might scupper that
