  1. Hi All, Hopefully someone can help. Having a total meltdown with the start menu programs (not tiles) - not got to that bit yet! Basically. In windows 7 we had start menu redirection (not full app redirection). Worked fine. Windows 10, I can redirect icons and cleared the "common programs" however folders do not appear which is odd.. or a feature. Teachers need their own start menu - including folders pupils need their own start menu - including folders Hope this makes sense.. what can I do ? Redirected Desktop is working a dream! (with windows 2019 server gpos) Any help appreciated. 5nowman (having a meltdown)
  2. Did you get any further with this? Windows 10: I got start menu redirection working however it only shows icons not folders I create! Really odd. networkshare\startmenu$ ... put chrome shortcut in there and it shows on teachers logins If I create a folder it does not. Works fine with windows 7. Hopefully someone can help or suggest what they are doing with their start menu folders. as with windows 7. I don't want APP data redirected.. just the start menu
  3. This is madness. what happens when the server goes off? do backgrounds show in real time? I even tried setting the lock screen wallpaper to \\localhost\c$\wallpapers\MainScreen.jpg no joy. The Lock Screen GPO even states c:\ ... as a path for the jpg. Thank you for the information. I will set these reg fixes. setting up a clean system and now I have to dirty it by reg fixes. Everything should be doable with GPOs without reg fixes
  4. Have any of you had problems with the entire tile system vanishing in an un activated version of windows 10 ltsc ? All I've done is install basic apps chrome 7zip etc and updates. Not even joined to the domain yet! All the tiles have gone and I just have the start menu (not using classic shell)
  5. we're gonna have redirected start menus, tiles redirected desktops. Profiles all local only. This is a new one on me with the audit stuff!
  6. All, Hope you are all well. I just read about Windows 10 Audit mode! When we created our windows 7 pro image Years ago we never used the audit mode. Do we HAVE to use audit mode to create the reference image? Or can we just install apps and sysprep it? Never had an issue with Win 7. Has anyone run into issues not using Audit mode and installing the apps? Any info would be much appreciated. Many thanks and kind regards. 5nowman
  7. This is why I have not seen it on windows 10. I NEVER enable the administrator account.... I think the SID used to be generic and the rule of thumb is use a different account.
  8. It isn't uncommon and it does happen to everybody ! A feature??? Omg.
  9. Really odd one! Hopefully others have experienced this. Server 2019 Standard (with Gui). Logged in with administrator - went to NIC and saw the page with NIC adaptors Settings > Network and Adaptors > Change Adaptor Options. Gave the server a static IP, Created a new DC new forest (usual add role process etc). Restarted.. logged in with administrator (domain) Now when I go to Settings > Network and Adaptors > Change Adaptor Options. I get a message that I do not have permissions!!! NO permission to go to control.exe in system32 (which I can get to if I browse). I copied the Domain Administrator account to create a new one Account... and that account can do the above fine. Anyone else had this? Should I be worried and start a new DC again ? I've built MANY servers before.. this has never happened.... Any input would be cool! 5nowman
  10. worked a tread. Next to test VAMT 3.1 for activations! - - - Updated - - - Ah.. good shout. No store with LTSC.
  11. First.. Thank you! .. Second.. OMG >< What have they done! I just wanted to install it as a part of the "core" workstation build. It better work with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC!
  12. Has anyone downloaded Office 2019 from the Volume License Site recently ? I selected Office 2019 Pro Plus and it downloaded Office 2019 SERVER! Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.
  13. Quick question.. how have you managed to stop windows updates from installing the newest build as a part of the windows update?
  14. This does slightly worry me. I would have thought say Dell would release drivers. e.g. Windows 10 Pro drivers would work with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC? For say new Optiplex models etc
  15. Just about to install a batch of programs on win 10 LTSC. Smartboard software. Promethean Software. Hopefully both work as it is the same OS essentially.
  16. Thanks for clarifying!
  17. I was thinking along the terms of ... the Main OS not being upgraded like windows 10 PRo or Edu. 3 years is a very long time for an OS upgrade from say LTSC 2019 to LTSC 2022. In that same period Windows 10 Edu / others would have had 6 upgrades - 2 a year where microsoft would have fixed flaws vulnerabilities.
  18. In my opinion.. the biggest downside of LTSC .. and please correct me if i am wrong is the version vulnerability. Remember when Ransomware hit all hospitals etc ? Would they not have been using a version similar to LTSC ? Even though Microsoft patches were there.. maybe the version let down. This is what scares me big time.
  19. Did this remove the run as administrator and uninstall? I am planning to test out the "Enable disable right-click context menu " worked for windows 7.. group policy somewhere
  20. I don't think there is a LTSB 2019. I could only see a LTSC 2019 on the volume license site. The way I am working is.. think about the schools needs. Do you need apps from the microsoft store? If not LTSC is minimal...and FAST so far! I could have gone pro however there are all those scripts to remove candy crush etc. I read you can edit the registry to get photo viewer etc back. People talked about calculator... this was already in LTSC. Hopefully SIMS and curriculum software work with LTSC as it is in essence the same OS with updates different (no OS build updates by default) ? Correct me if I am wrong.
  21. I remember seeing a windows group policy to say "do not install an os upgrade as a part of windows updates" or words to that affect. In this case could we not strip down windows 10 pro and apply this policy? Also there's so many versions of windows 10 now I have lost count. Are you all using windows 10 enterprise 2019 ltsc ? I don't see any windows 10 enterprise 2019 ltsb
  22. This is the hurdle I am in too. Wanted to boost ahead with Windows Server 2019... capita do not support it. In my opinion it seems like they might not ever support it and carry on development with SIMS and FMS online. Anyone heard anything recently?
  23. I agree with this and this is the reason why I have decided to setup a separate VLAN for wireless devices. Here are my thoughts: VLAN 5 . Printers workstations servers 172.26.48.1 to 172.26.55.254 Subnet 255.255.248.0 Hosts 2046 Gateway set to 172.26.48.1 VLAN 6 Wifi Devices 172.24.48.1 to 172.24.55.254 Subnet 255.255.248.0 Hosts 2046 Gateway set to 172.24.48.1 Cross VLAN traffic setup if certain wireless devices need access to data on the server. What do people think? any advice would be appreciated. Kind regards 5nowman
  24. We didn't want to use the 10 range as along of people remote in from home. we were thinking of ip conflicts etc in the long term. vlan 4 .. there isn't really a standard I believe. 10 would be voice if my client decided to go down that route
  25. Hi, Sorry this is my first post on here. Site has been amazing for .. everything. We are about to setup a network and I just really want a confirmation this IP setup would work. VLAN 4 across the board. 172.26.48.1 to 172.26.55.254 Subnet 255.255.248.0 Hosts 2046 Gateway set to 172.26.48.1 According to my logic that setup would work. Client only has about 250 machines. Does anyone see any problems / recommend anything? Please let me know. Cheers 5nowman
