  1. Will the iphone software work for ipads too? Thank-you
  2. thank-you i thought this would be the case! Can you only associate 10 ipads with one itunes account or is this no longer the case? I believe the configurator is only available on a MAC?
  3. Hey guys, We got a brand new windows network in the summer and now thats in place the school are starting to look at ipads and apple technology. We have ordered 20 ipad 2's to start us off and this will be the first time we have used them in school. How do we go about getting all the ipads the same? Do you download and configure everything on the first ipad and sync the other ipads with the same itunes account or is there an easier way of doing it? Where do i start in terms of locking these down so that students cant purchase / download new apps etc? Our school are also keen for us to create ibooks, do you HAVE to have a MAC for this or is there a way of making them on ipad / windows? Any help is appriciated as they are turning up tomorrow and students / staff are eager to use them.
  4. Basically our users are not understanding why some GPO's take a couple of reboots and refuse to accept its normal, GPO's are applying fine but sometimes take a few reboots which as far as i know is perfectly normal anyway. The problem is they want it to work instantly and after only one reboot. I thought forcing a gpupdate every day in the background may help to ensure policies are upto date before they reboot. Also you always get that one PC that just refuses to update on its own without forcing. Our clients are all Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit
  5. Thank-you. It says it was triggered but all the security properties are nothing like what i set in the group policy. For example i set to 'Run wheather a user is logged in or not' and its selected 'Run only when user is logged in' so it didnt run
  6. Hi guys, I have been testing sceduled tasks through group policies today to see if we can run a silent gpupdate /force to all PC's on our network just to keep things upto date. I created a new GPO, computer configuration > preferences > control panel > sceduled tasks and added a script to a new scheduled task which is as follows: @echo off gpupdate /force /wait:0 I scheduled it to run every day at 14:30 for a test. How do i check to see if the task ran successfully? I cant see much in event viewer other than this line: Is this an indication it ran successfully or is there another way to see if scheduled tasks failed or were successful? Have i followed the correct method of performing a scheduled tasks on all machines? Many thanks
  7. Has anyone installed the whole package or just individual packages from AVS4YOU? We have an unlimited license and it comes in handy for media and ICT as it allows you to convert videos and create new ones. I cant see an MSI for it, just wondered if anyone had deployed it? Anyone got a script if so? Many thanks
  8. No work around then? We can disable the user popup message, its not a huge issue, just helpful to let people abort the shutdown if they are still using it.
  9. Hi Guys, We installed Shutdownatron today and its working great, however if you set a custom message in group policy to appear, the Interactive Services Detection kicks in and flashes down the bottom on the control panel like this: Then you have to click on it and click on 'View Message' to view the custom message we have set. Is there a way of disabling this pop-up so that it goes straight to our custom message? If so can it be done through GPO? Obviously users arn't opening the dialouge at the bottom in time at present before it shuts down. We want it to be fully automated. Cheers
  10. You're right, it just came up with a java update window asking for admin to upgrade it....any idea how you stop those?
  11. Just given it a try on some test machines, i see what you mean, it looks much cleaner without the notifcation tray. Does this mean also that flash / java / adobe reader update messages will also be hidden? Could kill two birds with one stone here!!
  12. Excellent. We have just installed a new network too over the summer! So much better than the RM system we had before! Do you have to logon as an administrator to see the status of the connection / anti-virus etc then?
  13. I think the GPO just collapses or expands the notification area, there's not much on ours anyway at the moment Maybe when it starts getting big we can collapse it
  14. Thank-you to you both. The ADM template seems to have worked from testing and the icon no longer appears in the notification area I dont think we need / want to disable all items in the notification area as this will probably disable the anti-virus status notification and LAN connection status etc?
  15. excellent thank-you! I'll give it a go and do some testing Where did you find the template?
  16. Hi, On our student machines, we have intel onboard graphics which has a notification icon on the task bar in the bottom right hand side to allow quick changes to be made to the graphics driver. Students keep opening this and changing settings to make the screen black / screen rotate around or changing colours resolutions of monitors. Is there a way to prevent them running this notification icon application or is there a way to hide it altogether through group policy for all student users?
  17. thanks mate, ill give it a go! Eventvrw says its successfully installed the msi and no errors atall. Just it doesnt fix the error. Installing manually does. There is an option in the MSI installer for a path to install it to but leaving it as default works just fine. Could this cause it?
  18. Sorry should have said...Computer configuration > policies > Software Settings > Software Installation as it is an MSI. We only deploy .exe's via script.
  19. Hi guys, We have a problem at the moment where hyperlinks wont open from any application (outlook, word, excel etc) on a certain build and i have found a Microsoft Fix it that works if installed manually on that PC However, tried to deploy this via group policy and it successfully installs but does not fix the problem. If you then uninstall the msi and install it manually again it works.... Any idea how i can get this to work for all users? I dont fancy installing it manually on all PC's! The package is: MicrosoftFixit50388.msi Is there another way to fix this if not? I have tried changing registry keys relating to .html and htmlfiles but neither worked. The build does have googlechrome on it which could be the cause? Many thanks
  20. thats what i did Now i have the fun task of finding out how to install 35GB worth of data on the network!!
  21. are you saying the file names / paths are possibly incorrect for the machines they are trying to run on? If so, all our machines have the same images and programs are in exactly the same places for all users Users cant see the C: drive so they arnt able to pin them themselves
  22. deleted effected students profile from file server and created a new one, he still does not get pinned start menus or mapped drives other than home drive.
  23. gave a student whos effected command prompt and it says ERROR no file extension?
  24. Hi Dave, The wait for network policy didnt work unfortunatly. Running the script locally for a user did nothing also, however i may need to test this further. Ive noticed these users who are having problems are also missing mapped network drives?
  25. this is the one dave!
