MS Teams + New Powerpoint Presenter View - WTF Microsoft...
browolf replied to Tefters's topic in Cloud Services
You don't know who reads uservoice but this guy is the product manager for microsoft edu and he just released a new features video with it included this is the tweet to complain on -
Wasn't completely sure where to post this but It is a future thing that will have a major impact. My school is on the list and the talk is they're going to replace at least half the school. My school was originally constructed in the 50s with Laingspan prefabricated building techniques which are falling apart and can't be repaired. This document details Laingspan and there's some pictures that havent reproduced well as a photocopy but look exactly like one building we used have! https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED011776.pdf Apparently when this building we used to have was demolished it was the "first demolition of a ‘Laingspan’ school building for the ESFA. Ruckus but it's over 10 years old. We we're planning to replace it but the DFE are looking into rebuilding half the school because it's constructed with old failing Laingspan. If the project goes ahead they will replace all the old fibre and wireless themselves!

The place to assign the team leaders.
-
I've been looking for that for a week. so not intuitive.

Just received 23 of these. We're leaving the default windows and setting them as business managed. We install office365 apps, sophos cloud for antivirus and webfiltering and chrome. The students log in with their office365 account.

Bought a room of Adobe CC on that new school license. Trying to deploy dreamweaver21, with the adobe created msi package, through group policy. We don't have sccm. That doesn't work and neither does running msiexec in a command prompt logged on as dom admin, non-quiet. In the log file it appears that it does everything up to installing the icon and then gives up the installer is on a network path that I mapped to a local drive with pushd I used Processor explorer to look for anything obvious and found another log file in c:\users\myname\appdata\local\temp\pdapp.log In that log file I found a fatal error occuring in the gap between 15:10:25:302 and 15:10:31:735 When I ran the msi in explorer from the local drive, it created the icons but then got stuck. The progress bar on the installer stopped moving. 15 minutes later I found Adobe licensing toolkit running in task manager and when I terminated this, the installed finished I'm not sure what any of this means though.

How to add the pupils to existing empty teams with powershell req: a sims report with the columns classcode, admission number, admission number in the office field of 365 accounts, class code in the team name of the format #:classcode# #get useraccounts, drop in file get-msoluser -all | where-object {$_.office} | Select-Object Userprincipalname,office | export-csv -path msoluser.csv -NoTypeInformation #add useraccounts to lookup table write-output "Adding pupils to lookup" $xpupils = @{} import-csv msoluser.csv | foreach { $xpupils.add($_.office,$_.userprincipalname) } #fetch teams write-output "Fetching teams" $xteams = get-team | Select-Object groupid,displayname #process teams write-output "processing teams" foreach ($xteam in $xteams) { $xgroupid = $xteam.groupid $xname = $xteam.displayname $xListofCodes = [regex]::match($xname,'#.*)#').Groups[1].Value if ($xListofCodes.length -gt 3){ $xCodeArray = $xListofCodes -split "," Write-Output $xteam.groupid foreach ($xcode in $xCodeArray) { Write-Output $xcode #Write-Output $xcode #make an array of admission numbers that are assigned to this code $xclassarray = @() import-csv studentclasses.csv | foreach { #check row classcode matches $xcode if ($_.class -eq $xcode) { #add to array $xclassarray += $xpupils[$_.adno] } } #printarray foreach ($ad in $xclassarray) { Write-Output $ad #add to team. Add-TeamUser -GroupID $xgroupid -user $ad } } } }

My plan was for the teachers to put their sims classcodes in the team description and then I'd retrieve them with powershell so I had a means to match sims data to already created teams. Wrote a script to do it. Now I find out that teachers can't edit the description for class teams. They'll have to put it in the title and I'll have to use reg exp to pull out a string like ##code##
-
what if all the teachers jumped the gun and created teams but now they want an easy way to add their class pupils? I thought I could make groups with powershell and they could add them to their team but it turns out that would only be a one off because if you change the group it doesn't update the team. SDS wants to create its own teams. Currently I've thought if the team names had the classcode in I could match teams to classes and add the students directly - updates would also be feasible. any other ideas?
-
Last I heard, they'd stopped SDS creating teams, so you wouldn't get a "new" team.
-
If they add the group created by SDS to their team. wouldn't that auto update their team from then on?
-
how long does New-CsBatchPolicyPackageAssignmentOperation take? I did 1500 pupils yesterday but it's still "in progress"

Been watching Perry Mason. It's got a proper "noir" feel. It's the story of how he went from PI to Lawyer. Really good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5O3cMmg3JQ

Yes, safe search, It started happening more last week afaik. I asked BTLS and they said we could either whitelist individual videos or turn safesearch off....whitelisting it is then. -
Is there not something that your LEA provides?

Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)
browolf replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
I've spend too much time working from home with a remote link. My office xeon workstation that I used to be happy with now seems slow and unresponsive compared to the i5-9600k with m.2 I have at home now I'll have to get a better one from @ict_direct -
Received 98 boris laptops today. They are 15.6" HP with AMD A4 processors which are about as powerful as a dual core E6600 but they have a 128 ssd at least. 4gb ram. On the first boot it automatically logged on as ./localadmin. I joined it to my wifi and discovered it was locked down and couldn't install any other software. They come installed with chrome, updated Edge and Office tiles that link to office365. I couldn't see any other software. On the second boot it went to the login screen and wanted me to put in the password which I don't know. After 5 minutes it magically transformed to the normal win10 login screen and invited me to log in with a work or school email. However despite being connected to the wifi it doesn't let any email log in.

Crap! totally didn't notice those stars Ordered a replacement off @ICTDirect_Dave (bargain hardware) :-)

I've got an HP elite 8000 usdt. It's not a great spec but I just need Hyper-V to work There's something wrong because when I launch the vm in the Hyper-V it says hypervisor is not running. I've updated the bios and enabled the Vx options but there's this problem. second level address translation NO but coreinfo says supported I'm at a loss what to do. Another mystery (or perhaps the same problem) is i've got docker desktop installed and running but when i run the hello world test this happens. Any Ideas?

Different behaviour in office 365 proplus for students accounts
browolf replied to browolf's topic in Cloud Services
this is what happened. After going through 3 support reps. By the time I got to the 3rd one after the weekend, I couldn't replicate the problem but he referred to the message centre (like it would be obvious) and said it would be working now. I couldn't find an item in message centre that sounded anything like it but the problem has gone away so I guess they've fixed it.
