  1. @DMcCoy I had that issue when I updated it, there is a problem with the register so technical support took me through the key entries and modify it manually, I cannot remember the key and the values , it is just a case to let Support know your error message . @Tech_Guy you should have received some documents along with the installations files, in one of them it states clearly what the requierements are,, if they are not meet, and the exams authority finds out, they will ban your school so not allow it to be a test Centre , obviously any exams performed outside the guildelines will be invalidated. Regards
  2. at first I read as "....but open to staff who are not NUTs..." (nut - An insane person)

    Intel or AMD

well I remember my first processor was an AMD Am5x86 (the one that was equivalent to a P-75) in Mexico we used to call it the "Pentium for the poor" because by then the Intel Pentiums were much more expensive, so whilst I was dreaming to get a Pentium Pro , instead I got that AMD, but many of my classmates and teachers were impressed at uni when I used this machine (Am5x86 133MHz, 2 MB VRAM, 64 MB RAM and 2 GB Hard Drive) as a Windows NT 4.0 Server for a Project Network . after that I when onto a K6-2 300 MHz but that was all my experience with AMD, then moved to Intel since then at present I am stuck with a P4 3Ghz seeing to upgrage at some point.
  4. the Head of IT is just the Department Top Manager, just like the other Heads eg. Head of English, Head of Maths, Head of Languages. Heads of IT are not necessarily involved in the School's Network Infrastructure.

    Sound Problem

the problem for windows to restart and looping is because the wrong driver was installed, as you mention, C-Media causes problems when you try to install it where realtek chipset, and it will refuse to uninstall or be removed, so I am betting your MB has the realtek chipset, so I wouold suggest you uninstall your drivers and then go to the Registry to delete manually any entry referred to C-Media and then try again, sometimes when windows try to detect hardware it choses the wrong driver "automatically" so be alert. but also as suggested, you will need to check your motherboard and find what Sound Chip you have (Realtek, ADI) etc Regards
  6. Synack, bare in mind that some motherboards are using electricity when just "powered off" so it is not just ground what you get from the psu, example we have Gigabyte motherboards and when switched off they are still powering the mouse, PCI Cards (eg Network cards) and inclusive some motherboards have some leds which of course they are on so it is an indication voltage is going thru the motherboard, so lets just be careful.
  7. I think Techguy would know very well how to mount and ISO or even to use it in a Virtual Machine. the question he is asking is if it is possible to fit that ISO file when burning it to a standard 4.7GB DVD. as stated by localzuk, DVD Media uses the same marketing than Hard disks manufacturers, so in the end you get this "slight" difference with the available space.. Eg. a hard disk will not matcht the stated capacity, I got one 250 GB disk and is actually 233 GB when formatted. Anyway, I dont want to speculate what the contents are from that ISO you downloaded, because standard ISOs to burn to dvd would not generally cause trouble to fit, so as you said, the only suggestion would be to try overburn it might just fit, also you could have the choice to modify your ISO and remove something like an unnecessary folder and rebuild your image hence size will decrease. 9. well, I read an article about MS and Citrix continuing collaboration for years to come http://www.itpro.co.uk/news/158628/citrix-and-microsoft-in-virtualisation-tieup.html so there will be Citrix for Server 2008 Regards
  10. not really, I usually leave the defaults in Opera. I am using full ver. 9.25 , I did not even know how to set it in phone mode.
  11. I just somehow saw a lin saying "full vBulletin" I clicked on it and suprise, its ok now, now I try to locate than link again and I cannot see it anywhere, I think it is replaced by the edugeek style dropping list.. mhhhh
  12. is it me or this happen to all the Opera users, many of the pages that I am viewing from Edugeek are not using the style design, instead I am just getting the plain text unformatted layout (I am writing this post in plain text right now) but as soon as I view the same link in Internet Explorer it shows it perfectly. is there a "compatibility" issue in here?
  13. i was referring to Belarc software, it is free, but not to use in an educational environmnet...
  14. just checking on that website "License: The license associated with this product allows for free personal use only. Use on multiple PCs in a corporate, educational, military or government installation is prohibited. See the license agreement for details. " what do you use it for?
  15. you should use quick format if the hard drive was already formatted with NTFS, if the setup finds the partition but you get an error, then the partition might be corrupted, I recommend to use fdisk to delete all the partitions on your disk, and then run your windows setup.
  16. I have tried last year, there is no problem or I would say, there is no difference with using wired networking, I do find trouble running the software properly specifically the flash content. but regarding the wireless, there is no problem at all.
  17. From School I got Chocolates, Sparkling flavored water (I dont drink alcohol), and more chocolates.. and then on christmas I received a designer Scarf (never wore one before) and I am treating myself with a 500GB Freecom external hard drive and 2 GB RAM for my laptop.
  18. I would go for Electronic VGA Splitter because the "Y" cheap types produces double image in the monitor (like ghosts or blury) so get some so you connect the computer output to the Splitter's Input and then the splitter will have two available VGA ports one for the monitor and the other for the projector. Regards
  19. if you turn your head upside down you will see them standing on the ceiling... ,, well anyway, yes, bose systems are not cheap but they were there when I came to work to this school, they sound really good, but of course, for Speckytecky needs a budget system so those from soundlab would be ok
  20. here at school we use a pair of Soundlab 15" 300WRMS Speakers G591E for our sports hall (whole school assemblies) Soundlab Speakers they would do for your hall, you can get good output with any amplifier with at least 300 Watts output. we use a more complex setup for our main hall including four Bose ceiling mounted Click Here and a pair of sub cabinets for bass, all these powered with two 800 watts amplifiers and one 1600 watts amplifier.
  21. there could be several factors, but probably your new ram is not compatible with the ones already installed, check for values , not only DDR speed, but CAS too,,, if you said you purchased 40 sticks to add to said 40 machines, what about matching old sticks only and new sticks only , I mean in 20 machines you can use 40 old sticks and then the other 20 machines use the 40 new sticks? we have been having some trouble too when upgrading memory and sometimes it works well in some machines only, (even with same specs) but I guess you have to try. Regards
  22. I would suggest to you to get small laser printers instead, like the Hp laserjet 1018,, why? because nowadays inkjet cartridges are getting smaller and smaller, meaning they run out quicker and you will need to be replacing them quite often, but if you still want to go ahead with inkjet printers, then I would suggest you shlud check with your supplier what HP inkjet printers they offer.

    IP Conflict

I agree with Michael but I would go a bit further, I would not use the 192.168.*.* on your network because casess like this will happen and you will get confusion to find the source. I would suggest to change your Ip ranges, the only acceptable time would be if you have a small one location network eg. one room only or a test lab where devices plugged to the network are easily controlled.
  24. I use opera too, but it has some downs for me, eg. using it with Karpesky it disables the links from my results in Yahoo Images. :./
  25. you are going the right way,,, I have just done it but for staff, I extended the partition for staff (when dynamic, is called Volume) by adding space from another volume (both must be dynamic) first make your new drive dynamic and then you can right click to your pupils volume (partition) and choose the option "extend volume" so you will go step by step wizard and you will select your new disk, note they are labelled as disc 0, disc 1 disc 2, etc. and then you have the option to select the amount of space you want to add. Regards Rick
