The users connect via vpn to the router, which has external and internet IP. They can then map a network drive to the server.

Some of our pupils use blackboard to connect to a college system. If I log onto the network as a staff member or secondary pupil, log onto blackboard I can download the files. If I log on as post16 I get "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded". Thing is there is no different GPO for secondary or post16. Any ideas where in GP I should look to change settings.

Nope, Just putting "Excel.exe" didn't work for 2003 or 2007
-
Just to update on this. The staff are managing to click the Run dialog box which is good. However 1 machine has Office 2003 where the rest have Office 2000. Is there a way to run the batch so if 2000 isn't present it will load 2003. IE "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE\EXCEL.exe" "\\server\sharedarea\_Teacher Admin\The Staffroom\Pupil Notices.xls" then on next line. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.exe" "\\server\sharedarea\_Teacher Admin\The Staffroom\Pupil Notices.xls"

Thanks. The problem we have is that the external IP is on the router and not the server. But like you say, the router should be able to direct the traffic to the web server. At the moment users are connecting, then mapping a drive to the server. How would the router know if users are accessing the intranet.

So to point our existing domain name to the address, which dns settings would we give them as surely we only have internal ones.
-
Thanks. They could connect to the VPN first then go to the same address as they do in school for the intranet, i'm thinking. Instead of them mapping a drive, they then should be able to click a link to the shared folders rather then mapping a drive.

OK complete newbie to external hosting here. We have setup an intranet in school http://servername:port We now have a public ip and staff can vpn in from home. I would like to make the intranet avaliable from home. We don't have isa - but do have a domain name we can use. It it simple enough just to get the domain hosting company to point the dns records to our server? Any help appreciated.

Hi, On an admin PC this morning, the user got a message when she logged on that the profile is not accessable. You might not have permission etc. No more connections can be made to this remote PC. Pressing ok to the message and browsing to shared folders etc works fine. She gets the mapped drivers, internet works, just not loaded the desktop. Any ideas.

Thanks but unfortuntely its a link on Joomla and Joomla changes the code to an absolute link so it doesn't work

Managed to solve a problem I had by using a batch file. A link on our intranet now runs the bat to open an excel file. Is there a way when the user clicks the link to run the batch without it asking to Run, Save etc Thanks
-
Thanks but can't really do that as the file needs to sit in a folder on the server.

OK found the solution but can't get it to work. I need to link to excel first then to the file. Did a command line: "C:/Program%20Files/Microsoft%20Office/office/excel.exe S:/_teacher%20admin/the%20staffroom/pupil%20notices.xls" which works fine. But when I put that into Joomla it changes it to http://2003server:84/C:/Program%20Files/Microsoft%20Office/office/excel.exe S:/_teacher%20admin/the%20staffroom/pupil%20notices.xls Even tried adding file:/// but still the same. I have code cleanup turned off.

Our Joomla is used for staff intranet. We have links on their to Excel files that staff use regularly. The problem is that its opening the files in IE. So they don't get the full excel menu for borders etc. I have changed the link to open in a new window but its still the same. Is it possible to get it to open in Excel ?

Thanks. Managed to get it to work now. Is there a way to sync the folder. Got it to copy one way. If the file is deleted in the original folder is there a way to delete the file in the copied folder too?

No the spaces don't exist - just happened when i copied to here. The only space is between _Teacher Admin hence the %20

There might be a really simple answer to this but I'm missing something ! I want to use a batch file to copy the contents of one folder to another. Simples. Batch file : copy \\2003server\sharedarea\_Teacher%20Admin\LettersHome\*.* \\2003server\d$\data\intranets\wamp\wamp\www\letters\*.* Doesn't work though. Am I missing something obvious !

Hi, Anyone know of an extension in Joomla where you can show the contents of a folder and list it in a nice html page ? We are hoping to do a section on "Letter sent home" and if they are saved in a folder on the system it would be nice for Joomla to be able to list the contents of the folder and enable staff to download them.

Hi Bought an Acer Aspire One ZA3 at the weekend. I want to put ubuntu on but want to back it up first. When you go into the Acer Recovery to do a backup it says that no optical device is found - which is true - but there isnt an option to backup to hard disk. 1- Is there another way to back up everything first 2 - Has anyone install Ubuntu on a Aspire One? Does it work?

The one in comet at the moment is the 6 cell battery Buy SAMSUNG NP-NC10-KA02UK | 10.2" netbook - Specification | Comet

Thanks guys. Think I might go get one at the weekend then and stick ubuntu on it. Read somewhere about a possible issue with the mouse pad thing. Was more worried about wifi drivers but as long as they work thats great. I take it is worth getting the RAM upgrade. Does Ubuntu allow 2GB ram ?
