It appears the LA will not allow us to move away from FMS so that's the end of that.
-
We currently use SIMS and FMS but the head is looking to move to Arbor in the next 18 months so my question is, are other schools who have moved away from SIMS, are you still using FMS or have you moved away from FMS too?

KRSC have quoted £5 so we are looking to move resellers.

Good to know 24H2 is fine to use. Back in the day when using MDT I used the English international iso so I assume international should be used win Win11 too?
-
Most of the school is still running win10 1809 LTSC but I will be moving the office to start with to win 11 in the coming weeks but I have heard lots of problems with 24H2 so what is the recommended version of win11 I should install? Thanks.

Who are you buying your Jamf licences from as we pay £7.50 + vat

Thanks. I had looked at DFS Management but it was empty so adding the server name brought up the shares.
-
In GP some of the drives are mapped like \\domain\shares$\folder1 but I am unable to see the share 'shares$' in server manager or computer management, it's just not listed. An explorer window will show the contents of \\domain\shares$ and they are just shortcuts to other shares, some of which have been deleted but the shortcut remains. When I try to delete the shortcut for the missing share I get an error saying item not found. Any idea where shares$ is managed?

Yes good idea, I’ll try that Monday

I've had to reinstate the reader 3 more times today as it keeps failing. It runs fine for an hour or two then stops working so I'm starting to think the power cut somehow damaged it.

Using Edusync but we had a new pupil who's name was entered incorrectly in SIMS but now the error has been corrected Edusync is still showing the wrong name. What is the best way to resolve this? Was thinking of deleting the pupil from Edusync and forcing a sync but wouldn't want to make things worse.

Thanks everyone. The reinstate did it although it took longer than it should as I couldn't find the reinstate button! Next time I'll look at the bottom of the screen as well and not just along the top buttons. As for the battery backup, it was that high up I needed a ladder and then there was no battery in there just the PSU and space where the battery should go.

Had a power cut today and after the dust had settled we found one of the door card readers was not reading Net2 cards. The reader LEDs are on and it bleeps when presenting a card but it doesn’t open the door and the event log for the door doesn’t show any cards were read. The door opens fine from the Net2 software so could the reader be faulty? I’ve powered the reader off and on but it still doesn’t recognise any cards however, the reader looks old and not like any reader I’ve seen before.

Came across this gem in the computer OU for the servers and I'm pretty sure they shouldn't be like this but can't remember what the default settings should be. This was configured when the MSP took over the school in 2020.

Thanks everyone.

Looking at pricing to move our servers to Azure and the pricing calculator is confusing with the different options. Please could you give me a ballpark figure of how much we would be looking at for a file server with 2TB of storage, 16GB RAM and say a server suitable for SIMS with 200GB storage 8GB RAM. Thanks.

Where are you guys buying Hikvision kit from as we used to use Dynamic CCTV but apparently they have been told not to give accounts to schools anymore? Thanks.

@Aprice @Olliedawg Thanks both, I'll see what I can put together.

So I'm still not sure how Veeam should be installed, I.E. can Veeam be installed on a file server that I want to backup or must it be installed on the VM host? The download of Veeam was 13GB so it must take up a lot of resources.
-
Update: So been looking at this some more and PeaSoup has given us a trial of their cloud storage which comes with Veeam. The problem is as I have not used Veeam before I am stuck on the best way to use it and how to deploy it. The servers are VMs stored offsite and we have no access to the host. Can Veeam be installed on a VM without host access or would another backup software be better? At my last school we used BackupAssist and that worked really well for file backup so that might be an option. The file server has already got way too much installed on it already so I'm reluctant to install anything else but we have other VMs that have light use so if Veeam can be installed on a VM can I install it there and still backup the fileserver?

Don't want to hijack the thread but we are in the same boat as when the machines were imaged the camera app was removed and now we need it. Is there a way to automatically add it to each user at logon to save reimaging?

I've got a strange problem with Google Admin in that when I try to edit the managed bookmarks for any OU the right hand side does not update. I can click any of the OUs and the top breadcrumbs line will update to say which OU is selected but the right side data block stays the same. Also, when I add a bookmark the save button stays disabled. I have tried different browsers and tried a using a Chromebook but the results are the same. My account is super admin and it was working fine last week. Any ideas?

Even if you know how to fault find and fix the issue on the motherboard have you got the kit to fix it.

Tell me about it and don't get me started on the internet connection price £4840 just for a 100Mb connection with Netsweeper filter.

£1800 is just for the backup option so the 1TB of backup storage using Ahsay software and recover any files on request. The backup retention period is 31 days and should be much longer in my opinion. All AD management come under another charge.
