The Dell 710 is 6 years old now so I would rather get that replaced but will keep it for something less critical.

So it’s time to spec a new server and thought I would ask what the latest kit is. We currently run 2 rather old servers, a Dell 720 and an Acer/Gateway GT350 left over from the Olympics. Dell 720: 2 x E5520 2.27Mhz with 16GB memory, 6 x 360GB SAS hd with 1 as hot spare all in RAID 5. This runs, dns, dhcp, 380GB of file shares, sims/fms. The cpu load is very low and we have 5.8GB memory free at the moment Acer GT350: 1 x E5520 2.27Mhz with 12 GB memory. This server only runs as hyper-v host with VMs running av, print, wsus and a few VMs used for testing. VMs total 280GB in size. I've got a win10 vm running today and it leaves me with 0.9 GB memory free. CPU load is again very low running between 2-8% I would like to virtualise every role separating sims and file shares from the dc keeping at nice and neat. The school is a large primary with 500 NOR. We don’t have loads of money so mustn't over spec. I expect it would run ok on 64GB memory and 2TB of storage. If I put the OS on 2 drives configured as raid 1 and the VM storage area using raid 5. Starting to setup a test windows 10 Education vm and in WSUS there are a number of options for windows 10. I've selected Windows 10 later drivers and Windows 10 but when I ran windows update on the vm it only found 5 updates to install. Does that sound correct?

Right, the site is back up and I've updated everything I can find. Going through the logs I can see many attempts from 46.x.x.x that go back to early April and then every few days. There are a few word press attempts but the majority are aimed at Joomla with thousands of POST /administrator/index.php followed by GET /administrator/index.php. As I said last night there is no sign of any users logging in and my username and password is a random group of characters which I thought would make it hard to guess. My next task is to block access from said IP addresses. Anyone know how to do that?

Thanks. The index.php has no original code in it but I've got a full site backup from Friday. I could just replace the index.php file but perhaps best to replace the whole site just in case there are other things hiding.

Yes but checked the users page and no one had logged on recently. I'm leaning towards the plugins myself so tomorrow when I restore I'll double check they are up to date. I was using one plugin called videobox that is no longer supported so that will be another problem.

Had a txt from the office manager tonight saying the school website had been hacked and low and behold she was right. The hackers changed the home page to include dead Syrian children and the Joomla control panel wouldn't take the site off line as the index.php had completely changed. I've added a html page for now and will restore the site tomorrow but it's something I could do without. Still not sure how they got in or where to look for clues. The site was running Joomla 3.4.8 and PHP 5.5.26

We've moving from Office 2010 to 2016 and been trying a test install of Office 2016 using the customization tool on a win7 vm. I notice the menu icons are not put in folders like previous versions of Office so I've got word, publisher, excel and outlook all dropped in the root of the start menu. How do I get the customization tool to make a folder and put all the icons in there?

What version of ESET are you running? Used version 5 and 6 without any problems.

This is turning out to be a bigger task than I thought! Removing the mailboxes went well but exchange still won't remove without the public folders gone which is funny as I didn't think we had any. It appears OAB still had public folders as a distribution method so change that to web based but EMC still says the public folders contains replicas and won't let me delete it.

Right, I've used the Disable-Mailbox command on a test user and it removes the mailbox without removing the user in AD. Now looking through the AD attributes I see many of the exchange attributes have gone including the proxyaddresses which I think outlook uses when setting up the profile the first time. No and being a primary it's only the staff who have email.

I've not touched the mailboxes and they are all still there so about 60 of them. So do I go into the database management tab and remove the databases from there?

So over the past few months we moved from on site exchange to 365 using a cutover migration. Everything went well and now it's time for exchange to be removed from the server. This server is 6 years old and will be scrapped this summer so exchange needs to go. We are not syncing AD passwords. I opened up programs and features and ran the exchange uninstall but under mailbox role prerequisites to comes up with loads of errors about the database contains mailboxes so I must be doing to wrong. What is the best way to remove exchange in my situation? Thanks.

I know it's not Capital Bytes as the LA are charging extra for that. My hunch is they have not included the filtering charges in the quote as it seems very cheap as it stands and getting anything information out of the LA is like pulling teeth.

Finally got the quote through and it says the price includes filtering. Does anyone know who the filtering is with?
