1. Same here. Probably my HomeHub #1. Piece of rubbish really. I put dd-wrt on a decent abgn CISCO router - but managed to VLAN myself into a box I couldn't get out of it. So I went back to the Super Hub. Advanced networking isn't my thing!
2. It always has worked - it's just the lack of formal support from Link when thing's don't work. You'll find you get more dodgy connections with Shrewsoft. It'll connect then you can't ping anything. It then takes a couple of dc/rc attempts to get a stable connection. I've paid for the pro version this time - I get the feeling they'll be getting their monies worth. I did use Shrewsoft back in 2011 for all SLT VPNs as their OS was Windows Vista Business x64 and the CISCO client was still x86 only. I could never get their laptops in one go to switch to x86 Windows so this worked better. Had a missed call from Ken Bearman earlier - annoyed I missed it. Not sure if about this or the O365 email filtering.
3. As is Enterprise
4. As is Enterprise. Gentlebeans we have it all now
5. That's odd my Enterprise product keys from VLSC both from my perpetual agreement and my EES install, but refuse to activate. I wonder if MS has turned the Enterprise activation servers off until 1st August.
6. Hmmm my Alienware laptop is far more troublesome. Is there anyway to deselect updates? I can turn driver updates off, but I need some of them. I update my nVidia 860M with the latest official drivers - which worked fine. Windows Update after a manual run to get my NIC drivers overwrote it with the dodgy Windows Update one. I cannot find a way to deselect updates! I know this is Enterprise and they intend to let us do this in a domain - but come on! I thought they'd dumped them "Microsoft know what's best, you get the updates we tell you get"
7. Windows 10
8. Works on 8.1 only just - the security and driver model has totally changed in 10. You can use other clients - like ShrewSoft - but if ask for support if it goes wrong or fails to connect they will say they only support the Cisco client. CISCO have abandoned IPSEC years ago - they insist that if the client doesn't work on your OS then upgrade your protocol
9. Ah my DisplayName in registry was fine - exactly what it should have been. The errors were about unable to download cert, and then unable to process cert. Perhaps if you upgrade with it already installed it works, but not as a fresh install....
10. It's a no go - at all. The v5 CISCO client cannot install the networking component and fails. If you install it seperately via Citrix DNE support (DNE Support - Deterministic Networks - Citrix) it installs, but the client will not connect. Someone earlier in the Insider preview phase managed to install the Dell SonicWALL pre-components, but even that has stopped working now. I'm back to Shrewsoft - and I'll pay them for a license this time - but the options for using IPSEC are slowly dying. Special note for Birmingham users of Link2ICT - we're stuck with IPSEC unless we run our own solution (will let they us do this?) I've emailed my account manager, a top bloke, to see what the feeling at The Fort is on this. We've all waited for Windows 10 to jump from Windows 7 - it will be an issue sooner rather than later when we deploy to staff laptops and have to use software our Grid do not recommend or support!
11. About to wipe my work laptop and put 10 Enterprise on it. Well over a year this install of 8.1 was on it for. The longest in history. Back in the day I would re-install Windows 98 monthly due to the problems that cropped up.
12. but DreamSpark get it first! Glad I have a few thousand DreamSpark IDs to deploy! Ah! Standard Dreamspark for Schools get Server OS but not Desktop OS. That's premium for Universities. They've changed all of it since I last logged in around 2011
13. Seems like most decent stuff on Prime you need to pay extra for? I got a Prime account on my work Amazon account, as frankly we were spending hundreds and hundreds on postage each year alone. I took a mooch at the Prime Video, well it'd be rude not to, and I wasn't impressed. Pick Top Gear - £2.89 a show!
14. Proof! So far...
15. Just to throw a spanner: The RSAT are ALWAYS released as en_US first, usually by months. Either cock about with your install to get en_US installed and set as the default, or until about the 6 month mark only install the en_US version of Windows. This caused serious pain for Windows 8 release as I went for en-GB on my work laptop, and in the end had to bin it as I couldn't get RSAT to install by inserted en-US post install
16. Some schools thrive on being The First to upgrade. For some reason Twynham School comes to mind for getting 8.0 RTM out that summer ready for September. Of course I could be wrong and doing the memory of Dave Coleman a real disservice.
17. Also I must show off:
18. One would assume like the Vista and 8 RTM driver cock ups this will be resolved before the week is out as lusers begin to use it and demand to know why they could play CoD fine on Win 8.1 Up 1, but they can't see anything on their screens after a while with Win 10.0 RTM
19. Watch out! nVidia drivers DO NOT PLAY well. And will screw your install. Even trying to fix it using the CPU graphics won't work. Make sure you: 1) Turn System Restore on 2) Make a manual restore every hour. 3) DO NOT install the nVidia offical drivers. 4) After Windows Update has installed the correct DX11 drivers stop Update from doing *anything* with drivers: Ignore the previous bit. It's here: System Properties --> Hardware --> Device Installation Settings * No, let me choose what to do # Never install driver software from Windows Update Save. Now at some future point when say Steam tries to update your nVidia drivers for GTA5 it won't download from Win Updates and total your rig.
20. SoaB! C'mon that's hiding the damn thing. Most people would look in the usual place under Downloads and Keys.
21. Anyone managed to release a Pro product key yet. MS are bloody clever. Can't even change desktop background orientation or stretch/crop/tile unless you activate.
22. Bloody corrupt download. 600MB missing. Working now
23. Ah! Thank you all. It was hard to find then. I'll go with my original plan of wiping down from 8.1 Ent to 8.1 Pro today and then reserve. I'll go back up to Ent at a later date. I only use Ent at home as when the VPN connects our KMS just activates it!
24. Please, someone help me. If I download 8.1 Pro via VLSC and install this week on W10 launch day it'll upgrade that SKU to Windows 10 Professional. For the minute let's not get bogged down in the bloody licensing. It's a technical, and intellectual exercise. If I download the final Insider Preview which is pretty much RTM and you can RTM it on launch day the only option they give you in Windows 10 Enterprise. But MS refuse to give us a launch date for Windows 10 Enterprise, or even a hint when it's coming to VLSC. Even MSDN just seems to have the retail SKUs. So if I get Insider Enterprise almost RTM, install it, and on launch day they let me slipstream the RTM code with a fancy new product key ... that means I have installed Windows 10 Enterprise. But it's not on the VLSC and no one has any idea when it will be. Am I missing something huge? Has MS announced when 10 Ent will hit VLSC? Given my MS account I use for Insider is obviously tied to an enterprise can other Insider users download Windows 10 Professional almost RTM and on launch day convert? This is the single wierdest bloody roll out MS has ever done. All because they killed Technet. On Gold Disc Day Technet and MSDN got the ISOs to the Gold Disc RTMs of all SKUs with PIDs. You licensed at personal peril. About half way between Gold Disc Technet/MSDN day Volume Licensing got the Enterprise SKU along with the VLKs/MAKs to start to deploy if required. It worked. Now I don't have a clue what is going to happen, or what's my best option? Install Windows 8.1 Pro and on Win 10 launch day upgrade to Win 10 Pro and activate? Download the latest almost Gold Windows 10 Enterprise and hope on launch day I can convert to RTM and activate? Or wait xOx weeks until Windows 10 Enterprise hits VLSC. Perhaps I'm not following this. I am not well at the moment coming off strong steroids and I cannot follow simple linear operations. Please. Someone. Anyone. Hell Mr Pearce save me! What the hell is going on?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
25. This is driving me mad! I can connect clients to my wireless at home. They get an IP, they see the correct DNS servers and can even ping and tracert external sites such as bbc.co.uk They can't actually connect to any website via a browser and it is driving me mad. How can a client connect, get the correct settings, ping a website but then be unable to connect to them via a browser! It makes absolutely no sense! Anyone else come across this?
