iPad haven't tried. iPhone - works on iOS 3 and iOS 4. Can't see any real reason why the iPad would be any different.

It has appeared to update fine for me, but then again this only my personal Exchange server! I thought the OWA from 2007 to 2010 was an improvement, but they've really nailed it with 2010 SP1.

If you're feeling super lazy you could also use a macro in Excel to generate a random string$ and then you have a self made password generator on the sheet you can use to reset the password with. VBA Express : Excel - Create Random Strings

Random password generator: Security Guide for Windows - Random Password Generator The way I do it for our new intake is to export from a spreadsheet I use to create the usernames a CSV with First Name, Surname, Username, Password and mailmerge this .csv with a document. Each student then gets a nice A4 page with our logo on, and the usual links listing their name, username, password and their email address (<>@domain....) Additional: Also are their technically two copies of the files on my drive? One in the actual location "D:\Students\Molly\Work\Doc1.docx" and a random 12455fgdfd.sis in the SIS Common Store, or is Windows fooling us into thinking the file in the users directory is actually there and taking us space, when it actually isn't?

Hello All, Due to a long and lengthy list of requirements I need to disable SIS on our storage server. It's not really saving us any space, and it's playing havoc with our backup. The requirement to backup thousands of tiny .sis files is making a weekly backup take a whole week! I have disabled SIS on the array, which is stopping any files from being associated now on - however I want to release the files already managed by SIS, and place them back into bog standard NTFS. Now Storage Server 2008 has a little option built into the sisadmin commandlet which let's you totally uninstall it from a drive: sisadmin /u D: - however that option is not available on 2003!! I have considering uninstalling SIS, but I do not want to end up deleting the files managed with it. I do have a list of files managed with SIS - surprisingly there aren't many duplicates, which I don't inderstand. Most of it can be junked, but there is some work there. I have also noticed that I can view and copy files managed with SIS in Explorer. Could I manually (booo!) copy these files off, remove the SIS Common Store, and then copy them back? Has anyone had any experience of this, as I am well confused! I just cannot understand why the 2003 version of sisadmin is missing the /U flag. It would have made this far, far easier!!!

Signed up for this last night, but after reading posts I'm expecing to have to fax some details across. We've gone for the full 200 keys (why not?!) but I assume only a couple of six formers will be interested. The software they offer though is fantastic. When my wife was doing her masters at UCE a few years we had access to MSDN Academic Alliance - I still have the keys - they offered pretty much the same, but with Windows Vista. I managed to get Vista Business on corporate release day. People do bang Microsoft, but schemes like this are particularly generous - it's just a shame they force schools to pay so much for licensing costs. IMHO we are using the software to teach and train, not to make a profit, ergo it should be free. Will let you know how it progresses. BTW - I know Birmingham Grid for Learning are listed but you need to sign into myvle, which we do not use? Has anyone managed to confirm their account through the central system? I did email Service Birmingham about this, but they blew so much hot air I gave up!

I was under the impression for state schools we couldn't run our own internet line, and it had to be managed by the LEA.

Surely there aren't that many websites? Three major universities, sundry campuses and colleges attached to them. A couple of big post-16 technical colleges, but not a huge number. I've found most do tend to advertise on their own site. Might be worth hitting up the Job Centre as well, I've seen a couple pass through that system.

I'm afraid NTFS permissons are also out for political reasons. They need an interface where you enter a specific passwords. A perception thing I'm afraid!

Hi Folks, We need to password protect a folder and all it's subfolders and contents. For reasons of politics we cannot use a network share, TrueCrypt or password protected compressed files. Does anyone know of any (and it has to be free!) software to do this? Thanks

We did this with an afternoon of help from our LEA. From what I understand it is actually fairly simple as you load Facility from the server anyway. The hardest part we had was replacing all the config files locally/ I've go through my paperwork in the morning and see if they left us the exact details of what they did. If you can afford to get your LEA applications team to do this, I would highly advise it. With the criticality and scope of information that CMIS holds, if anything goes wrong I'd prefer it to be on someone else's head, not mine!

I've been allowed on. I tried registered two addresses one is a group: [email protected] which was denied and one was my account [email protected] which was approved. Perhaps when the manually review they do not like groups, and prefer to see the account belongs to an individual?!

I still have a RISC PC connected at home. Fully networked! It was shame they couldn't keep it going. The UI was fantastic for schools.

I've heard that a school in my area uses fingerprints as their cashless catering system I did wonder about how they protected the data, and apparently the prints and the student details aren't "held" together, and if anyone got hold of the server/databases they would be unable to put the prints with a student. How this works, or even if it is safe I do not know

I remember as a kid the police came to my primary school and showed us their finger printing kit, and then took prints of my entire class group. We never got them, I wonder if they were building up at database even back then in the very late 80s. Not that it said much for the school, or the catchment area either!

I loved them too. There was for which had some great chilled music, well over an hours worth. I'm sure I've kept it somewhere. If you have an Acorn emulator I've got hundreds of assembler demos on a CD somewhere.

Labour aren't going to be a hurry for another General Election. The Labour leadership contest is long winded, and takes a good couple of months. Even after that they'd want to spend time rebuilding the party (as Blair, Mandy and Brown did from '94 onwards). They'll be quite happy to let the Con-Lib Government flap around for 18/24 months whilst they rebuild and come back stronger.
