Hello All, I'm looking out for a lightweight, free FTP client, for some of our students to upload work to an internal FTP server. I've tried Firezilla, however it doesn't seem to want to play with Ranger. Has anyone got any favorites? Thanks

Hi Everyone, I'm looking for some advice on wireless AV Senders. At the moment I'm using this: Buy Total Control Wireless AV Sender. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for . Which works OK in the bedroom, but in the home office there is a constant buzzing noise. If you get a white screen it goes crazy. Picture distortion and crackling sound. I was wondering if anyone is using the more expensive units, and what their views are. Especially in home offices ie next to two PCs Things are slightly better when the wireless network is turned off.

We've got a 42" Sony LCD TV in main reception with two 19" wide LCD monitors around site. We use the CAT5 to VGA converters and run a PowerPoint with photos, text, info and videos (no sound... yet!) from one old desktop locked in a room. Works very well, we just had to fiddle the display resolution to get it working on all the displays. It's logged on locally, but on the network. We can update the PowerPoint from our machines, copy it the display PCs C:\ root and then VNC onto it and quickly change PowerPoints over once a week.

At the primary we support they have four accessible for teaching staff and students: 1 x Konica Minolta Colour LJ in the Infant Library 1x Konica Minolta Colour LJ in the Junior Library 1x HP LJ 4000 Mono Workhorse in the Junior Library 1x Konica Minolta Colour LJ in the ICT Suite. Default printers for client desktops are set through a registry key and mapped through the batch logon script based on that reg key with CON2PRINT. For staff laptops on the Ghost image all of the printers are mapped, and the default is set to the mono laser. Staff are briefed on how to change the default, or we or the other schools who support can easily change the default for them. There's two in the admin office mapped to the office machines and the senior management laptops. Permissions are set so only authorised staff members can use them for budget reasons etc with NTFS security permissions. All are shared from the DC, with Print Manager Plus providing the audit trial and costings. All are networked with static IPs. The staff OU has permissions to clear the print queue as well. So if there's a problem they do not have to hassle the ICT Co-Ordinator when teaching, or have to wait for a techie visit. There's a couple of old DeskJet's floating around, but they are for specific use only, such as the SENCO. As only one member of staff uses it, it's simply connected locally to their desktop, and shared for their laptop. We basically use the same thing at our secondary, only far more. Easy to set up, easy to monitor and administer.

The primary still have their old client machines, we were going to "upgrade" them to some of our old RM P2 machines. I'll give it a try with their old clients on Monday. Hopefully mapping the right drives will get it to work.

Thanks for the tips folks. The tablet is now working once again! In the end I used RIS, after some hacking to get the right NIC drivers, it worked a treat.

We've got a very, very old version of Success Maker here. The installation CDs, of which there are many, have version stamps between v4, v4.1, v4.11 and v5.1.1 Do RM sell upgrades/latest version of this product?

Hello All, We are currently rebuilding a Success Maker setup for one of our feeders. I have moved the data onto a new server, and it all seems to be working OK. However I cannot find installation media for the client workstations. I've copied the C:\LOCALCAI folder from one of their old workstations, however it requires some DLLs, which we haven't got. Has anyone come across this before? Many Thanks, Matt

Hi Folks, I need to create an Office 2007 disc in case anyone needs to borrow it, however for obvious reasons we do not want to give the VLK out. In Office 2003 I've set it so the product key is automatically inserted, however I can't seem to get this working with '07. All I can find is for network installs, which requires the Office version of sysprepping it. Has anyone done this, and if so how?! Cheers

Sorry this disappeared from my subscribed threads! Not a Mac issue, but we had some Toshiba laptops from a feeder we had to image, and Ghost 8 refused point blank to work with the network cards. In the end I got frustrated a downloaded a trial of Ghost 12, installed it on the machine and created an image that way. You can re-image using the Ghost 12 CD, which uses the very nice Vista Pre-Installation Environment. The only real down side is I have to manually remove the Ghost software from the machine after re-imaging. It complains as it's a trial, and it could also cause issues for the end user. This may not work at all in your boot camp scenario, but it might be worth a punt.

Hi Folks, I was wondering if anyone else has come across this issue. We were looking at buying a site license for Corel Draw X4. I asked for quotes at my usual vendors, and was on the verge of ordering the package until I noticed one little line on the successful quote - "Annual License". None of the vendors mentioned this, and the reseller I was going to buy this off wasn't sure and had to ask Corel! From talking to other suppliers and our Grid it appears we have three options: 1) Pay £1500 a year for an annual license. This isn't an option as we cannot guarantee the money will be there each year, and it's pointless buying it, the ICT staff adding it to the teaching programme, and then having to bin it next year. 2) Pay in excess of £12,000(!!!) for a perpetual license at £42 per machine 3) Scrap the idea. Sadly option 3 appears to be the one we are heading for. If anyone's had experience with Corel licensing in the past, could you let me know what happened? Cheers

All changed now. I bought a cheap NAS enclosure for £30, Ebuyer offer, and run it as a remote file server. It's also great to run with Xbox Media Center in the living room, to save the electricity costs of having my desktop on all evening

Blind: Sorry to resurrect an old post, but is this still the case, or have Adobe released an update to fix it?

We're looking at a couple of virtual PCs for this job. @Ric - VirtualBox, I was racking my brains all Friday after trying to remember what that was called! There are two things it needs to do: 1) Reset back to base settings after each use, and 2) Access USB. VMware Player will access the USB ports, but doesn't support the snapshots. Virtual PC 2004 has snapshots, but no USB support. I asked around for a couple of quotes for VMware Workstation, and almost choked on my tea! It's great software, but too expensive. I'll give VirtualBox a try tonight and see if that can do what we need.

It's a great environment to work in. Relaxed, with no profit guided nonsense. For me the big part is giving something back to the community, and helping the next generation.

Hi Folks, I've got a problem with an old Toshiba tablet notebook. For one reason or another, against better advice (isn't it always the way!) I wiped this notebook as the OS had become so cluttered it was beyond any reasonable repairs. This was managed by sticking the XP disc in and taking it from there. XP installed and then promptly blue screened, and hasn't worked since. This notebook has no internal CD ROM, and is so old refuses to acknowledge a non-Toshiba USB CD ROM drive, so a simple OS install from scratch is out of the question. I've tried moving the HDD into another notebook, formatting and letting the XP installation files copy to the HDD, then turning it off and putting it back into the tablet before it reaches the GUI stage. This always causes a BSoD. I've tried copying the XP CD to the HDD and running setup from DOS, which failed. I've made the four XP boot floppies, as the tablet will boot off a Toshiba branded USB FDD, however it always crashed on Disc 3. Regardless of how many times I've remade the floppies, so I've discounted a bad set of discs. The only other thing I can think of trying is WDS, however we use Ghost and have no deployment server setup. Obviously this is something I'd like to try, but I haven't got time at the moment to play with it. Can anyone think of something else to try in case I've missed something blindingly obvious?! Cheers
