I've got some old towers and CRT monitors. Again they are 6/7 years old Win 2k 32/64MB RAM. They'll need to be re-installed from scratch too. If you want them they are yours (in Moseley), but you'd be better hanging on and seeing if anyone has anything half decent around.

I saw HST and Discovery on the pad way back when. We went when I was 7, sadly enough I can't remember much. Just seeing Discovery on the pad and standing next the Saturn V when it was outside. The F1 engines on the S-IC are unbelieveable. We keep planning to go back and actually watch a launch, but it's just too risky. My mate went back in the late 90s and missed it by a day after it was scrubbed for 48 hours. Great launch though. Watch out for the videos they release later today, for STS-133 they released the SRB cameras from launch, sep, entry and splash down!

This is what I dislike about all of this campaiging the assumption that if you don't agree with a position then it's obviously because you're too thick and can't get your simple minds around it. Both the Yes and No vote are guilty of it. The Yes party as they appear to assume the poor electorate are just not capable of understanding how wonderfully liberal this system is, and the No party as they played to the lowest common denominator and played off peoples fears. AV was a nasty little compromise, the Lib Dems fought so hard for what they knew was a floored system just to save face. I'd rather keep FPTP for a few more years until a better system such as PR is introduced, than impliment AV and regret it later.

Hi All, I'm on the lookout for a decent set of wireless speakers for my Deputy. I'd assume anything on the 2.4GHz band is going to be out of the question for interference. It's to plug into the back of a vinyl turntable. Room isn't massive so range isn't going to be a problem. Any ideas? I've never across any myself, but then again the missus lets me drape wires all over the place

Hi Folks, I have a core DLink Web Smart switch connected via fibre to three CISCO switches on site. The fibre is TX and RXing traffic (lights flash, logs say packets are moving) however client machines cannot access any network resources off their switch (e.g. although the fibre is sending and receiving data, it isn't actually doing anything useful). Any ideas?!

WIth Gigasoft do you know where you data is being held? Is it in the EU? At least with the L2ICT remote backup you know where it is and can hold of it quickly if there's a problem. L2ICT use Redstor and tend to underquote them for their own product! I do want to move to Live@Edu but I've only just got my SLT using a shared Zimbra calendar. None of the teaching staff use email. It's not a politically good time to switch sadly. Six months down the line probably. Was anyone else at the conference today? I loved the 100% up time of the L2ICT internet line? So what happened with that power cut two weeks ago? You can't really try and hoodwink people that that! £500 for Zimbra? I'm only paying £160 odd, that's why I didn't try and push LiveEdu in a couple of weeks.

I've lost well over 2.5 stone in six months. I had some stomach trouble back in September time so I wasnt eating much. After that my stomach obviously contracted and now I can't eat anything near as much as I did before. Most days I'll only have a bowl of porridge between waking up and dinner at night.

Getting mine via Technet - the DVD iso version. Windows Update is stalling, so I'm guessing its on there now and being hammered. For interest the WGA plugin crashes the release candidate of IE 9, which is why I didn't get it from the public site. When did this go live on Technet? I must have missed it. Even worse I need to re-download and burn my DVDs again now!

Hello, Has anyone here migrated from Zimbra to LiveEdu? If so how easy it was it to get Link2ICT to provide changes to your records, and did migrating current email accounts involve downloading into a PST, and then uploading into the new account. I'm using LiveEdu myself as a test school, and I'm finding it harder each day to go back to the Zimbra web interface - especially connecting calendars to Outlook!

With the Link2ICT new pricing imminently due for release, and a % increase on the 10MB line has any LA controlled Birmingham school gone down their own route for broadband access and filtering? I've heard stories ranging from "Yes, you can, but it's your arse if the filtering isn't tight" to "No you can't, it's a statutory requirement to have the internet from your LEA.", but of course the truth is usually half way inbetween.

Did any brave soul manage to suck down all of the contect on the BECTA site before it went down? I'm trying to find a few bits, but the Internet Archive isn't playing the afternoon. Is there another archive host out there?

Underpowered is still better than nothing That is a good point, but if there isn't a Win XP license on the machine we can't afford to stump up £80 to buy it, and Linux is not ready for barely IT literate folks. Let me know the details. I assume this is a pot somewhere for the parents to get kit either via the school or local/central government. This would be a far better option, but no one I've spoken to knows about any further found after the last batch of Home Access laptops. Hence the recycle old kit idea.

We have a couple of very old PCs - Celeron 800MHz - 256MB RAM etc which are currently sat in the school cellar awaiting Governors approval for scrappage. We have some releativley less well off families with students are our school, all of whom are on the ASD spectrum. I've floated an idea past my SLT that we could give a couple away to parents along with a CRT monitor instead of them going to be melted down for someone elses profit. I just wanted to check the Windows licensing. Assuming they all still have a Windows 2000 OEM sticker on them, I believe we can send them out with Windows 2000 installed from one of our old media discs, as the Windows license sticks with the PC regardless of ownership? We also bough Office licenses for the PC through the council, but I assume they have to stay for school use on school computers so I was going to whack on Open Office. The parents would also need to buy a keyboard/mouse set as obviously all of those have been reclaimed and used elsewhere. I was also thinking of putting together a document that they have to sign before taking ownership of a PC which basically states that the PC is theirs now. They cannot make a claim to the school if it breakdowns for repair or replacement. And when the PC does finally hit end of life its their responsibility to dispose of it not the schools. I mean obviously if they start to really play up and it just needs a once over I'll do it, but I am aware of the fact I could spend all my time up to (and beyond!) my dying days repairing these things. Has anyone else done anything like this before? With the end of the Home Access Scheme we do have some families who just cant get hold of a PC.

Used to be well under 3 miles (I can actually see my old school from my window now (well I could if it wasn't dark)) and took under 5 minutes in the car. Never walked it unbelievably! New school ~5miles through the back streets of SW Birmingham which takes about ~20mins each way. I leave at 07:15 in the morning and between 15:05-15:30 in the afternoon. Adding 5 minutes on in the morning equates to 15 minutes extra waiting in traffic. My OH gets the bus into Bham city centre every day and takes her ~1 hour each way and it's slowly driving her mad!

Thing is though this isn't the 60s. The general public now feels more self-centred and much less patriotic than in previous decades. The Government asking the country to increase productivity? What you mean you'd like me to type faster? Ask bin men to run around the streets? The decifit has to be reduced and of course the public sector is going to be highly targeted, its where a large proportion of the budget goes. At least in education we have a better chance of weathering the storm than other public sector workers.
