Due to continued customer growth, an opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, highly motivated and experienced SIMS specialist to join our Capita Accredited, hardworking and highly regarded support team. School ICT Services Ltd is one of the largest, independent providers of SIMS support in the country. We currently offer support and consultancy services to over 600 Local Authority, Academy and Free Schools, predominantly in the north of England but increasingly on a national basis. It is our aim to help schools get maximum use from their SIMS system and candidates must be pro-active in developing the use of this software in schools. Suitable candidates will ideally already be providing similar services to schools through an existing SIMS support team. However we would welcome applications from experienced High School or Primary School SIMS users wanting to utilise their skills in a different environment. The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills and be able to deliver high quality support to our customers across a range of SIMS specialisms via our service desk as well as delivering training and consultancy services. New Student Not Showing up in new academic year
oldtimer replied to ermantrude's topic in MIS Systems
The pupils have no promotion path for next year (ie Year Group, NC Year and Reg). You can either re-promote (takes time) or be sneaky by... 1. Open the student record 2. Click on the history button on the Registration Panel 3. Set the academic year on the drop down to next year 4. Add in the above fields for next year (ie edit the reg 'history' in the future) You should then be able to see the new pupils to allocate bands etc in next year -

[sims] "Exceptional Circumstance" applied in error - can I get rid of it?
oldtimer replied to DeeGee's topic in MIS Systems
Be VERY careful when messing with leaving dates. All attendance marks will be deleted that fall outside of the range of your admission and leaving date. You might fix your problem but create a much bigger one. If you have successfully deleted the exceptional circumstance, try running database diagnostics, before having another go at editing. If that fails contact user support. -
[sims] Is there an official Attendance Summary calculation?
oldtimer replied to techyphil's topic in MIS Systems
It is the total Present codes plus Total Approved Educational Activity codes divided by the total possible sessions (x 100). You can't average individual students % attendance as this is mathematically incorrect. -
[sims] Is there an official Attendance Summary calculation?
oldtimer replied to techyphil's topic in MIS Systems
SIMS Attendance reports work on the principle of including anyone who was on roll for at least one session for the time frame you are reporting on. I don't know if there is an 'official' summary but each census pulls data for pupils on the same basis. If you do it based on an on roll date, you could get a different result every time you ran the report for the same date range. If you use the Group Analysis by Attendance Category report, you can also add a date of birth range filter to exclude 12 and 13 if you wish. -
Don't worry about the cross, it just means they don't get credit for doing the cover (it's in global settings) Are you sure the personnel record the cover is being attached to is linked to their SIMS login?

To extract from SIMS the process is... In Nova, create a Maintenance Set (use the 'load other file' option). Set a from and to date of 1 day when that version is active. Save the file when it is created and close Nova Reopen Nova and 'load other file' again This time 'Create a Construction Set' One of the options is to create it from a maintenance set (use the file you just created)
-
Has that file been exported to SIMS? If so it can be recovered from SIMS using Nova

We support over 200 high schools using SIMS, all but a few use Nova and from what we see it is very flexible and fits almost all requirements. Most issues with curriculum plans we see are due to a lack of understanding of how Nova works, there is no real substitute for attending the 4 day course if you are going to get the best out of it. It is also worth remembering that a Nova curriculum plan gives structure in academic management which makes managing class and course memberships much more efficient. That can mean a lot of time saved over an academic year.

Most options issues are caused by either not having BDE511 installed on the workstation or the SIMS.ini file having a UNC path in the SIMSDirectory= entry (rather than a mapped drive letter)

You cannot calculate the percentage within SIMS but If you create your own report and pick the simple fields, you can use the attendance marks sub report for the tricky bit, filtered in the following way Mark date is between... AND Statistical meaning is one of Present, AEA This gives you a count of the total Present and AEA Click the copy button (blue curly arrow at the right hand side) to duplicate the attendance marks sub report) and modify the query to show Mark date is between... AND Statistical meaning is one of Present, AEA, Authorised, Unauthorised This gives you the total possible marks (for the same date range as above) You would need to dump this into excel and then calculate your percentage though Another trick is to use an Attendance letter If you have any attendance letters created (must be a % attendance letter) you can set your date range, and run the letter for the whole school where the percentage is At Least 0 % - ie everyone. If you choose the 'Print data file only(CSV format) option it will create a csv file with all the kids and all the % entries you might need (plus some stuff you dont). This will not include the SEN stuff however, so will not help with your example. Hope this helps
