Ah yes, the wonderful X-Copy. Wasn't that the one that made a great "boing" sound when the copy was finished? The sound of success with all those crucial backups (ahem). But then my profile pic shows my fondness for the golden days of the A500. Genuinely weird how a screenshot of an old forgotten app can make you feel!

Anyone using Show My Homework (Free Online School Homework Calendar) It caught the attention of some SMT here and it does indeed look interesting and free (?) - but isn't there a catch? Or am I just being cynical? Their "security document" is interestingly phrased, for example...

Just to return to the A2C software itself (as TechMonkey's colleague) it does need proxy settings, but the interface is so poorly designed it asks you for a domain rather than (like Sophos, for example) a server URL and port, and a mandatory username and password rather than an optional one. It also scales horribly on different res screens. Cobbled together in an afternoon by the look of it.

Educational might be debatable, but enjoyable? Try it yourself!

We've suffered from the "recovery model Simple/Full issue" bloating LDFs in the past. Having set it to Simple manually a few times (SQL Server Management Studio > Database Properties > Options > Recovery Model) I tend to check it after each SIMS release because several have kindly set it back to Full again!

Thanks Steve, but now fixed! Turns out it's the same issue that breaks the SIMS Document Server, as mentioned on the RM forum and elsewhere - the infamous trailing semicolon that's added to the proxy setting if it's edited via the RM Management Console. See Capita KB111368 or RM TEC1925974. We missed it because we'd fixed the DS issue by changing the protocol from HTTP to TCP rather than removing the semicolon directly in the GPO.

We're getting "InTouch Services are not compatible with your SIMS version" when an ordinary network user tries to run InTouch. SIMS fine otherwise. Summer & InTouch updates applied fine. Works fine for network admins so must be some difference between users. At Capita's suggestion, tried adding SIMS server IP as a proxy exception for ordinary users but still no joy. It's not being a local admin on the station either. Any ideas?

@mhundley : We had exactly this problem with our new 390s on CC3. Had to SmartClient them anyway as they wouldn't behave with the RM build, but were left with this very issue, with the network seeming to drop out mid-startup, just when it was trying to get packages etc. Now fixed - nice one sir!

Just got a batch of these and the build hangs at the "Copying setup files to hard disk" stage (i.e. just before it would normally tell you to take out the build disk). Looks like it's partitioned the HDD OK (we checked via BartPE CD) but not able to SYS it ready for the next reboot. Any ideas?

As TechMonkey's colleague can I clarify this a bit... Basically our main staff & student servers are both really tight on space. Next year is The Big Upgrade, but meanwhile we'd like our users to come back in September to an extra drive letter giving them more space. We've got a very busy summer ahead so ideally we just want a box (£1K tops) we can plug in with minimum fuss which can have around 1300 user folders on it, correctly shared and permissioned as per the users' current home folders on our existing servers. We got a couple of Terastations last year which have turned out useful for backups but can't do this kind of stuff, as their much vaunted "AD integration" just means you can have authenticated users, not actual NTFS-style folders. So would we best off with a device that uses WSS? I notice Buffalo do a WSS Terastation, for example. Seems a simple query but in some ways there's too much info out there!

Tailgaters are definitely my No.1 hate. I've no problem with boy racers as such - not my style but what the hell - but when some feckwit tries to push ME to break the limit and potentially get points, that drives me insane. Enough testosterone overload to try and shunt me along but not enough to just overtake me and feck off into the sunset. ARGH

Solved - it was the dreaded "stray semicolon in proxy address set in RMMC" problem - as detailed in RM's article TEC640303. Irrelevant to IE but fatal to other apps. Nice.

Any suggestions as to why a particular RSS feed (BBC News) happily displays in Xibo for an admin, but not for an ordinary user? Other feeds work fine for both users.

OS : W7 64-bit Home Premium. Application : Paintshop Pro 7. If I want to look at multiple images in PSP, I can either open PSP and "File > Open" each one, or double-click each one in Explorer. In XP both these methods resulted in a single instance of PSP and the ability to switch between images via PSP's "Window" menu. But in W7 the second method spawns a new instance of PSP for each image, hogging resources. Is this default W7 behaviour? Or just a quirk of running an old 32-bit app? And above all : can I change it?

Most things Amiga, above all anything by the awesome Bitmap Brothers (hence my avatar); my fave was Gods, now a fine Java remake here complete with level editor.

We use these which are working well, but we're gradually moving over to secure online systems anyway. Our (few) Mac users just work online.

I'm setting up a system for students to meet the ICT Diploma "build a network" requirement. So I can leave the workstations untouched I'm using live Linux - Slax on USB keys, running 3 stations and a printer on their own switch. All works a treat except for one thing : although the stations can happily ping each other I can't get any filesharing to work. NFS is running, each machine is sharing a folder with it, but none of them can "see" each other - i.e. Remote Places > Local Network remains empty. Any ideas? I've loooked at all the obvious settings including IPtables but no joy. Anyone know if Slax has anything inherent built in which would prevent one Slax machine seeing another? Probably blindingly obvious to all you Linux gurus...

Yes, it's the same whether external or internal. We tested it from outside (GMail to Distribution Group), inside (Outlook to DG) and from outside but internal (OWA to DG). And yes, the Contacts are set to Accept Messages from Everyone.
