  1. Just about to get a Dell OptiPlex 3010 with a AMD Radeon HD7470. The card has 1 x DP and 1 x DVI-I. Will I be able to run dual monitors (not cloned) on this or would I need either a different card or an accessory of some kind?
  2. Just a quick bump... closing date is Monday 5th July. And to anyone interested : This position is for 37 hours per week and is Term Time Only. The salary is Single Status grade 5/6, spinal points 11 - 16, £16,186 to £18,736 pro-rata (£14,032 to £16,242)
  3. Running Exchange 2010 happily here, but when using the EMC on either the server or my workstation, it always starts with the "Exchange 2010 Post-Installation Tasks" pane visible. Is it nagging about a real issue or just being "helpful"? And is its appearance why I can't save my EMC view? e.g. I'd like it to open at "Recipient Configuration > Mailbox" rather than having to navigate each time...
  4. We're after an ICT Technician - advert here
  5. We've got a couple of Axis 207 IP cameras on the LAN, set up identically. Neither are set up for external access. However one seems to be generating a lot of router traffic 24/7. Any ideas why?
  6. Where do schools stand on copyrighted material and VLEs? Is it OK if the VLE needs to be logged into? Or is it still illegal even then to have a Boardworks worksheet on there? Or parts of one? For example a quick search for schools using Show My Homework in "public" mode (i.e no logon required) brings up loads of ExamPro, Boardworks stuff etc - are they all breaking the law?
  7. The fault itself is intermittent, but once it stops being pingable, that's it until it's rebooted. No pings get through. It's a managed switch but in that state you can't use web GUI or telnet to check stats. Next time it happens we'll try console direct and see if anything looks obviously wrong.
  8. What would be the first thing to check with a switch which intermittently can't be pinged, but is still basically functioning, i.e. clients still happily connected? It's a Netgear FSM726. Fixable with a reboot but something's not right...
  9. Thanks again Joxta. I'll apply the upgrade and both patches; fingers crossed for a server that's still alive afterwards. Beats me why Capita can't think ahead but after 20 years of SIMS joy I'm not surprised...
  10. Thanks Joxta - do you mean if I only apply 18180 I'll get the "optimisation" but still be left with mad refresh intervals?
  11. Just to clarify - we've been told by our LEA that there were two successive patches, 18148 and 18180. Do they both do the same thing?
  12. Bottlenecks or performance issues on SIMS? Surely not! Anyway thanks, will turn on and keep an eye...
  13. I've been asked to look at trialling Alfiesoft Testbank. Their fiddly SIMS sync thingy requires "Data Change Tracking Management" to be turned on in SIMS. Anyone know what if any impact this may have on our normal SIMS use? Just being cautious, you know what SIMS is like...
  14. What do you folks use to give you an overview of who's logged on where? I know this is a perennial problem and that the nature of Windows networks has always meant it's tricky or impossible to get a 100% accurate view, but nevertheless... when we were RM CC3 we had the dreaded Management Console, but we're vanilla MS now. Any useful tool to suggest? Don't mind if it's not free, but equally don't want a fully fledged quasi-RM system - we've already got tools for pretty much everything else.
  15. Seen it and it looks good. But (a) does it use AD logons or do staff have to register in some way and (b) once logged on, does it pull in class details from SIMS or do staff have to set up classes manually?
  16. We're considering getting TASC Insight; I have a question for all you enthusiastic users : When setting homework assignments, does it give you the same choices (and ease of choice) in who you're setting it for (class etc) as SIMS Homework Diary? SMT here like the look of SHD's feature of actually setting homework from inside SIMS, but I'd like to ditch clunky Gateway altogether. I assume TASC doesn't allow setting homework from inside SIMS (?) but presumably by looking at the same data it does allow you to easily set it for a class defined in SIMS, if you see what I mean?
  17. We use SIMS LG, hosted by our LEA. We suffer the usual fun of dealing with parents whose passwords have expired, but a bigger issue is when our own (admin) passwords expire too with no warning. Any ideas for checking our password age to avoid lockouts and phonecalls to the LEA? Easy if we hosted the AD, but it's at the LEA. When we're logged in to SLG as admins we obviously have remote AD access of a kind because we can reset parents' passwords (or our own for that matter), I just wondered if that connection is exploitable in some cunning fashion to check the password's age...
  18. @matt40k : SOLVED! Nice one. There was an older, incorrect copy of FMSCONNECT.INI lurking in there. A nice W7 gotcha which I may feed back to our LEA...
  19. It is a Win7 client but we don't have that file anywhere - I seem to remember it was a relic of either an FMS migration or sites with multiple FMS databases? Anyway I'm on as an admin so not sure what's going on...
  20. I've just successfully installed FMS on several new workstations, but on my own one it cannot connect. Looks like the act of running the client (i.e. bringing up the FMS logon box) causes the Server value under HKCU\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI\SIMS_FMS_DATABASE to be truncated to just the server name (rather than the correct value of servername\sql2008). So logging on then fails. If I set it manually in the registry, running FMS again truncates it again! Any ideas folks?
  21. We've fixed it temporarily by commenting out the duplicate code. But we're baffled as to why it's there in the first place, and why it should break the site without warning after a couple of years' completely trouble free operation...
  22. Came in to a weird one this morning. Our Joomla-powered website was completely unavailable with the error "Fatal error: Cannot redeclare JRouterSite::_parseReqRoute() in /home/joom/public_html/includes/router.php on line 169" A quick Google seems to give no-one actually discussing such an error, just hundreds of hits for someone (the same person?) offering a freelance debug. And a quick look in the actual file shows the 7 lines starting at that one to be duplicated just before that point. Never had the problem before, and the file's not been modified since the install a couple of years ago! Anyone else ever had this?
  23. Yes, it is a requirement. We already had most of the info scattered round our site but for clarity have made a new "Statutory Information" section with links to it all. There's a couple of bits I'm waiting for from other SMT but it's nearly complete.
  24. Hmmm so Epson not that great, perhaps. What's a typical model?
