Our admin users need Chrome for their CPOMS U2F keys...

I think you're right, a quick recce in another dept reveals the very same model...

Many thanks all, anything a wee bit smaller? (apart from those tiny beer can "coolers", which all sound a bit crêpe)

Losing the will to live amongst hundreds of nearly identical "review" sites, and adjacent Amazon listings varying from "it changed my life :D" to "it burned my house down " Just need something small for office milk which will (a) actually keep it cold (b) not catch fire and © not drive us insane with its noise. Oh, and (d) be approved by a frugal budget-holder! Suggestions please...

We moved from SW to XG end of 2018, purchased through SoftCat. Nice kit, and very glad to leave behind SW reports (*shudder*)

Online file sharing between schools

Do you limit who they can share with? -
Online file sharing between schools
Quatermass replied to Quatermass's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We can lock it down to various degrees - e.g. users we deliberately add to Azure AD, or more "self-service" but from a whitelist of domains e.g. feeder schools. Personally I feel a (brief) AUP for them would be a good idea. Obviously we don't do this for recipients of our emails (!) but this feels a bit different. -
Online file sharing between schools
Quatermass replied to Quatermass's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Just exploring options at the moment; our DPO is involved! Our AUP could cover not copying sensitive data into an externally-shared folder; the trouble is that it's so easy to do. Whereas we can and do enforce encryption on USBs, for example. Any thoughts on the teacher at the other school? If they were given an actual logon to our network they'd need to sign our AUP. So what about if they are sent a link to a file in one of our staff OneDrive accounts? -
Currently if our staff share a file in OneDrive it's only amongst themselves. A teacher has asked if they can share a folder of resources with a teacher at another school. Should we allow this? Caveats? Should the teacher at the other school have to agree to anything? Not quite the same as emailing the resources, after all. Or is it?

Sophos renewal and email protection
Quatermass replied to Quatermass's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
So will you go for Sophos Email (which AFAIK is the one you can manage inside Central alongisde AV etc)? Interesting what you say about Sophos Email Gateway, I did think the GUI looked pretty antiquated. -
Sophos renewal and email protection
Quatermass posted a topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We're about to renew our Sophos AV provision and are moving to Central for our servers and endpoints. However that still leaves what to do about email. Currently we use Puremessage on a local Exchange server. We can either continue with PM, or switch to either Sophos Email (cloud based) or Sophos Secure Email Gateway (appliance/VM). I know that using PM on-server is a different approach to SE/SSEG, but what do people think feature/interface/management wise? And given both the considerable cost of SE and SSEG, and our plans to migrate to O365 email anyway, would another viable option be to ignore all of them and just use O365's own Exchange Online Protection or Advanced Threat Protection? I've spent hours on Sophos's own site but its plethora of similarly-titled products/features are making me lose the will to live! -
We're very interested especially as it could potentially replace 4 systems here, but one of those 4 is SMHW and given SMHW's features/embeddedness we might not want to use EduLink's homework feature yet (or possibly at all, depends) - does EduLink allow you to turn particular features on and off, so for example we could leave its homework feature hidden to avoid confusion?

Company is here, switch demo here, software demo here. Recommended by a local installer - anyone using their kit?

Thanks again. I assume unconnected with the Emerge server we had installed on our SIMS server at one time? (which allowed a teacher to collect data on a tablet and then it would sync with SIMS).
-
So with a newer job like SMHW, out of curiosity how does it actually work - do they still pull data directly from our server, or from Groupcall? Is there any evidence on our server of their access like with the old jobs? Logs, for example?
-
Many thanks, even that basic knowledge wasn't imparted to us! So, just to check my understanding is correct : The portal shows us all our data sharing (Meritec, Biostore et al). "Old style" jobs such as Biostore are still visible in Xporter. But a "new style" job such as SMHW no longer appears in there, it's just an on demand thing - which we agreed to - via Groupcall's connection to our server?
-
Slightly off topic, but we were also given Groupcall's newer On Demand school portal thing as well as Xporter. I can see that the portal helps with GDPR etc, but it's not exactly a replacement for Xporter - or is it? Seems like more of a complimentary overview rather than an actual tool. For example it's only in Xporter itself that you can see job times, job failures etc (and indeed, force one to re-run if it fell over). Meanwhile SMHW, for example, asked us to "upgrade" to the new XOD over the summer, resulting in their job disappearing from the old Xporter interface. We are confused! Would love to have a clear explanation of how these systems interact, Groupcall site seems pretty information-free Groupcall's opacity as a system running on our server has always annoyed me!

A bit vague, I know. We're just starting to explore failover options as we move more and more to the cloud. Hard to get staff on board with using OneDrive if our LEA connection falls over (not unheard of...)
-
Leaving aside yesterday's O2 fun and games, is anyone using a 4G failover solution for their internet in case their main LEA connection goes down? Any thoughts? Costs?

[sims] Urgent Capita SIMS Data Issue - Issued by childrens services
Quatermass replied to vikpaw's topic in MIS Systems
Do you know where it records this username? -
Any recommendations? I'm aware of Nuance Power PDF Advanced, for example. We've used print/black out with marker/scan in the past but our overworked DPO was hoping for something more sophisticated and less time consuming...

Not forgetting, of course, those who belt down slip roads expecting there to be a magical gap in the traffic at the end - had that happen a couple of times at one near here - a tad trouser-filling when you're on the dual and some **** nearly drives into your passenger side...
